Old Bench Grinder Restoration [kotobuki grinder orange]

- Hello everyone,
Today I make a another restoration video about bench grinder from japan.It is kotobuki grinder orange that I found this grinder from recycle shop. 100 V, 120 W, 50 / 60 Hz, 1600 ~ 1800 RPM, left stone 150 x 6.4 x 10 mm, right stone 150 x 16 x 10 mm. I think this grinder is 1991 grinder. In this video you will find the restoration process step by step as the following:
- Disassembly
- Clean all parts
- Remove old paint
- Spray new color
- Restore it
- Testing

What many of the commenters on the electrical don't know is since this was a Japanese grinder, it only came with a 2 prong system, You did right in putting it back to a 2 prong system and if a ground is required later then attach it to the mounting bolt and a ground in the building. Doing this keeps it correct. Thank you for a fine job.
My favorite part was when you went all "A-Team" on the set of door hinges at the end. It is now a fully functional piece of art! Well done!

Never thought to tie up the motor wiring with a zip tie, and the double wrap of the zip tie was a novel and original idea. Smart rebuild.
I was glad you didn't replace the switch, but I expected you to make it cleaner/nicer. On the other hand I was VERY impressed with your use of the hinges. Kudos!

VERY COOL WORK. I buy all my tools used and cheap. A chop saw - $20, scroll saw $15, used mill $800. I had considered restoring - but i just use them.

Wire wheel the nuts and bolts holding the cases together. They were dirty and corroded. Nice job and nice video showing how.
this doesn't look like OLD bench grinder .. it looks most like a grinder forgoten to the inclement of the weather, and also doesn't look like a restoration but a cleaning and painting. I gave you a thumbs up, thanks for sharing
a pleasure to see this rebuild. a black painted(maybe with a brush) Switch and black painted hinges would complete the rebuild.

Very nice! Finally, someone who uses power tools and socket sets in a restoration. The use of heavy duty hinges was clever, however I would have trimmed then to match their vertical supports, but that's a personal opinion and does not reflect negatively on your overall results. Very neat!
Perfect addition to my home shop least I would die rather than the earth fault or short circuit tripping out my fridge full of beer. Nice concept😁

we have a few grinders like this in our workshop. We are a concrete block manufacturing company so we have many different tools. maybe I restore them like you in future and post the video.

I just love it! I usually detest orange but in this case, it's perfect!
Nice save. The hinges as a rest for the work was innovative. Some automotive compounds on the plastic on/off switch would have restored that to like new. A wiring system, with ground, would add safety, although, I used my old Red Wing sans one for years prior to its rebuild. Thanks

you made a very nice refurbishing job here, I have often to make intervention on this type of machinery and usually, a problem that I encounter is that the shoulder that retain the thrust of the stone is too small and it creeps when the grinding wheel is tightened. to correct that, first, I machine the shaft to remove the damaged shoulder and I fabricate a washer that fit snugly on the shaft and incorporates the bushing that fits the center of the wheel so the wheel spins very true and an overtorque of the retaining nut will not induce wobbeling of the wheel.
