Im sure they have their moments but you can see they respect each other and aren't in competition with their egos. Its really nice. Thats how it should be. I love how they know each others "lane".
Based on their videos it seems they have regular time apart to work on their own projects. I wonder if this is part of the special sauce? I also am very impressed with their dynamics - impressive !
You hit the nail on the head with the bar of soap. I think most contestants on the show focus on items that will help on the physical side, axe, pot, saw, etc. but forget about how mentally draining it is out in the bush and being able to clean up renews your mindset. Great thinking!
You all prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can give me
@Darren Alexis i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I really enjoyed your video. I'm former Army Special Forces guy, and your soap story brings this memory: Once upon a time, in a land far, far, away .. after 10 days of mountain ski patrol, I was smelling like Sasquatch and down in the mental dumps .... I found a mountain stream, I broke the ice and took a bath. That soap and fresh water made me feel like a new man. I always have soap. Thanks for sharing.
Omg.... I have been watching Brooke and her little cabin. I didn't even realize that was you on Alone!!!! Omg now I realize how you are so cool with being at the cabin alone! You're a freaking survival expert!!! #fearlesswoman
Dave: "These cranberries are junk, man. They're like a thousand years old." (two seconds later) Dave eats more. LOL Too funny. I totally thought you and Brooke were going to win ALONE. I would have bet money on it. Anyway, I dig both your channels. You guys were bushcrafting before it was hip and it shows in how knowledgeable and authentic you guys are. There is no pretentiousness about you. It's not about fancy, new gear or trendy survival "skills", it's a lifestyle for you guys, and that's awesome. Much respect.
Thanks Kevdre3000. I appreciate your comments. As for the cranberries.....they were almost dry ( not juicy like a good craisin.......but after a few of them I started to appreciate them .....they were almost "candied" they were crispy almost. Also, they were food and I just have no willpower over food.
Thats very true. I noticed this same thing about them. Seems like their natural way of life and not living the life for views. Which is why im glad i found them
You two played the psychological game better than any contestant on that show, ever. I can tell you guys thought really hard on what those items were going to be. I was rooting for you two since day one. I could see that you were people I could talk to, that could teach me something I didn’t know without the thought cross your mind that your better than anyone else. I could see that. I think you guys won the show, all 3 teams that were left there at the end won that show. You guys are some tuff people. Tuff like most don’t understand. I know your just a guy the same as I’m just a guy, I don’t hold you above any man or woman. I just know that your good people. That’s all I got to say.
Thanks Adam. Brooke and I both really appreciate the comments and the compliment. I think the thing that we really did right was we enjoyed the whole thing and were always happy out there and we left happy when we had no other options. We wanted to make sure we had no regrets and I think we accomplished that well.
List: 1. GORP (trailmix) mix of chocolate chip, peanuts and raisins (excellent choice) 2. coffee pot 3. steel pan (would have taken a Leatherman) 4. two Tarps (white color for psychological motivation) 5. Bar of soap (makes a difference mentally) Congrats on the 22 (24) yrs coming up!
@@WillCanb saw works for cutting wood. its alot easier to split wood if its cut into chunks and using a axe for that is alot more work. so they compliment each other very well.
So my wife and I have been binge watching Alone and started watching season 4 this week. I subscribed to Dave's channel after watching his solar panel video last week. I didn't make any connection between the two shows until I happen to get a "Girl in the Woods" suggestion to see you clear trees in Michigan. I saw Brooke and said, "Hey, that's the lady on Alone!" We rooted for you but saw you leave the show last night.... Good job! Best shelter so far. Also, Brooke's infomercial was funniest moment in Alone shows we've seen.
Your choices were very good- I agree that the Leatherman would have been a great choice along with a big knife! No need for a small knife in that case!
The Soap inclusion is such a great choice. It’s beyond the psychological points they made, as the hygienic aspects of survival are often overlooked as they can’t be addressed. To avoid getting sick is something most contestants don’t think through. Great video!
A little late to the show, but after binge-watching at least a half dozen Bushradical construction videos and the last episode of Alone - Season 9 (with a Canadian winner, eh!), I just couldn't help myself from squeezing in this last BR video. And I am glad that I did. I had no idea that you were both on an earlier season of Alone. You didn't mention how many days that you lasted in the West Coast Canadian wilderness. Insofar as this vid, enjoyed every second of it, but the "out takes" were the best part, by far! You are two of the most accessible, real people on youtube.
i knew i recognized you guys from somewhere. I have been watching your videos to learn this stuff. This video comes up and then i remembered seeing you on Alone a few years ago
Alone can give an unreal angle to people preparing to go out in the wilderness. They ban things like a tent, which people might in reality take. You made a good point about a white versus green tarp. When the glass jar you found broke, it seemed to help to break you in one series - these small things can matter a lot, like the buzz you got from the salt in the trail mix.
You guys were cracking me up with the outtakes! You have incredible chemistry together and it comes across on video full force. I admit up front and honest that I most definitely do not have the skills to do Alone. I'm that guy who spent a good chunk of his teens and early twenties "in the woods", mostly as a scout (got every merit badge for wilderness/survival they had back then), and loving every second of it but that was a LOT of years and beers ago. I met a girl (married 30 years, together for 33) who has ZERO interest in getting into the woods and so my time spent there has progressively decreased until now my idea of "getting outside and getting happy" is sitting around my backyard fire pit. Fortunately, and as I've mentioned before, I live in a fairly well wooded area so that's nice but... It's hardly "wilderness survival". Someday I'll get back to it, until then I'll keep watching you guys and enjoy myself vicariously. Thanks for another great video!
Watching season 4 of alone now because of you guys and omg, Brook makes the show period. You guys are the best team on there and somehow Brook keeps her humor through her hunger, it beautiful to watch you guys!!!! I'm on episode 9. When I'm done I'm gonna come right back here to finish this video I love you guys!!!!! You two are my favorite TH-camrs. The starvation island skit was hilarious😂😂😂😂😂😂
IM ABSOLUTELY ON BOARD WITH EVERYTHING YOU GUYS DO.. IVE AQUIRED MOSTLY EVERYTHING YOU RECOMMENDED , BECAUSE OF LIFESTYLE, IM CONSTANTLY CAMPING, AND I AGREE! GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!
Much appreciated explanation for each item. When the show first aired, I thought about what 10 items I would choose. Some were the same as your choices, but the soap was never one of mine. After your explanation, I now agree that the psychological boost you get from washing up is definitely a benefit worth considering. Also, I totally agree with your choice to build the nice shelter, again a major psychological benefit. About the iron skillet, might you not add a bit of iron (ferrous oxide) into your diet if the rust gets mixed into the food? You two really aced the challenge, even if you didn't get the $$. I follow both your channels now.
As you point out your experiences on Alone are unique, few of us will ever do anything like that. I think your take on axes has relevance to anyone who goes into the woods; the size of the axe we take may vary depending on what we plan to do but the point that you don't need what has come to called a boutique axe or hatchet is absolutely spot on.
For those that don't know, cast iron pans need a little more care, but if you apply a thin coat of oil after cleaning they don't rust. I live near the ocean in very humid Florida. BUT cast iron can easily last a lifetime. They are very cheap too. That size in Lodge is only about $15-25 bucks at Wally World in various sizes. And you can easily restore them if they get rusted. Or stainless steel but the good ones are expensive. I have both. But I love being able to scrub cast iron, or a great way to clean cast iron is boiling water in the pan then heat dry and quick rub down with oil soaked paper towel. Cast iron also can be placed on open flame campfire like stainless steel too. One thing for sure, is both are better than teflon in every way. Cast iron is nonstick if you maintain them properly. It's not difficult once you know the techniques. Just my humble opinion. Love this channel. THank you for sharing so much knowledge and experience.
You both are so awesome I subscribed to both but together you are funny and amazing Thank you for bringing highlight into my life. Hugs from Texas Mimi 🤗
You two are so reasonable and logical you and Dave are unusually good good people.dont ever change. Your son n daughter have terrific people as their parents
This is why I know you guys are for real. Soap. Keeping clean IS Mental Health when your in the woods for extended periods. Having spent 4 months alone on the PCT my little 1lb bar of soap was a weekly vacation from my vacation hint: Keep your soap dry, it'll last longer. I used to just cut off a small piece for a bath and clean my clothes. Coarse sand will keep your cooking stuff clean. I take 3 Knives. A big one, a medium one, and a little one. I have a single bit axe that my grandmother gave me very similar to yours Dave. I have an old Finnsaw folder I've used for processing game and firewood. My whole ruck weighs 25lbs. If you can't find food in the Olympic Peninsula you need to stay home. Great stuff! Thank you to both of you!
Never had watched the show til i saw this video. You both did fabulous and i love the way you work together. Btw, i about upchucked when you ate the sea snails...
It's so cool that your items are mostly inexpensive sensible items. Never want to be in the situation you were, but it was cool watching you all do it!
Guys guys love to here about your experances alone and togather love to see you two working as a team togather God bless you two and also your children to again l😅ve both of your vidows
Omg. Just started following you here on TH-cam watched a few videos and didn’t even realize this was you until I seen your wife! She was one of my favs on Alone!
Interesting psychological perspective on the white tarp phenomenon! I’ll have to tell these special Ed teachers about using the black desks and gray walls in their classroom!!!😮
Hahaha the ending, you'se two had me laughing! 😂 I know your usual sign-offs, and that was just perfect! Thanks for leaving all that in and not editing it out.
THAT was great!!!😃👍 I mean Radical man!!! Get outside and get Happy 😊 🌹!!! I love that you build houses like it's a little thing. People act like it's such a big deal. But you and your Wife do it as a hobby. I love "can-do people." And that is what you are!!!❤️🙏. Yay 😍😍😍!!! Great 😊👍!❤️
Military tents do have liners. They're sold separately. They're called "Cold Weather Liners", but even when we were in Korea for "Cold Weather Training" we didn't have them! Because those in charge did not request them! We lived thru it! The liners are basically white, they reflect light and heat pretty well!
Great video, as usual. Sounds like an amazing experience shared together, you'll have this for the rest of your lives. Thank you for sharing all the info, I look forward to seeing Alone soon.
Some might say, making your own is easy, but a good high quality soap, cannot be made easily. :D (ash+fat sounds easy, but getting it right can be hard.)
You guys look so healthy. If more people lived like you guys do, I bet there would be a lot less sick people around. I am overweight with type 2 diabetes. I have a feeling if I lived and ate like you guys do I would lose weight and I would be healthier. I am turning 59 in June of 2023 and I am retiring next yeaer in 2024 at the age of 60. I wish I would have done what the 2 of you did when I was younger. Maybe next year in 2024 I might sell everything and attempt what you guys do. I think the 2 of you are amazing.
Re-watched this and just recognized, I had forgotten my like. Sorry. Done. I enjoy to listen to your experience, but also to your humour. I am out in nature since my childhood (a thousand years ago ;-) ) and learned so much from my father (or just by doing the most stupid mistakes while doing my tours), but I still learn so much from you. Those choices and why or why not are really helpful and inspiring. When you always do your thing your own way, it can also kind of stuck sometimes - at least in my case. I mean, it will do, but one can always learn and improve. So, thank you very much! I tried a white tarp for example and was utterly surprised. I hadn't minded the green one and found it okay, but in comparaison it made such a difference. Plus also the nutrician part and more. Awesome.
Oh so nice to see you two do a video together where you both are not hard at work. Great video, very informative of your adventure on Alone show.! Oh you have the two green cups from Coleman pot. I love them cups. so comfortable to hold and very strong good quality cups for plastic. I've never used them for anything hot yet.
Hey Jude! That coleman cook set is Brooke's so this was my first use of the green cups....I think they are great! How could you ever break one?? I had a cup of hot tea and it was super comfortable on the hand. A metal cup would have burnt ya!
Awesome video buddy and look forward to hearing how you almost lost the Hudson Bay Knife. What’s awesome is my wife and I have been together for a lil over 22yrs got together when we were 15yrs old and married for 17yrs. Take care and God bless to you and yours!!!
I just started watching Season 4 this week. Thanks for no spoilers in this and I won't read further comments. You two are living the Dream. God Bless you both.
Hi Dave & Brooke, first saw you on Alone. Very impressed with Brooke’s skills (Nice shelter) Then Dave shows up and you build a cabin!! Also Really enjoyed your pics and Dave’s narrating job on your Yukon river raft trip. That was AWESOME!! We only live an hour from you here in Michigan ( Harrison) and are planning a trip to Alaska in 2020. May try to look you up when in Fairbanks. Enjoy your work, keep it up.
This cracks me up ! THE video was great.Yes I am new to you guys channel.Sorta...Been watching both you guys stories.Love it you guys are humans are suppose to be ! Your a great couple. Love that your common since peps....Anyway the outakes in the end was great. 20 yrs . We are a little older I'm retired. Fished and camped all my life.Plus tent camped.most yrs ,now a camper.LOl I applaud both of you for building your places and being on Alone. All my camping was.on a river or lake but mostly on controlled land.So for you guys to do in Country that is remote Fteaking Kudos ! I think bad ass.Period.Its been fun getting to know you 2 on Y/T . Take Care Pam ✌
Loved the video guys. I really enjoyed seeing what you chose, why and if you would take it again. It was very insightful What you said about the white tarps made a lot of sense. I would never have thought of that. My wife and I were really pulling for you during your time there.
Really enjoyed watching you two in this. I have only had the privilege to see a couple of the alone shows with you guys in it, but plan to watch them all soon. Great choices of items and appreciate the whys more than anything
How do two people who are so similar meet and spend their lives together 🤗. This is the greatest couple on the planet.

They're called "Cold Weather Liners", but even
when we were in Korea for "Cold Weather Training" we didn't have them! Because those in charge did
not request them! We lived thru it! The liners are basically white, they reflect light and heat pretty well!
You all are awesome! I loved the outtakes.
Great video, as usual. Sounds like an amazing experience shared together, you'll have this for the rest of your lives. Thank you for sharing all the info, I look forward to seeing Alone soon.
Soap. Thats actually brilliant, never thought of that.
Some might say, making your own is easy, but a good high quality soap, cannot be made easily. :D (ash+fat sounds easy, but getting it right can be hard.)
You two are awesome! God bless you all!
Thank you so much!
Enjoyed the discussion & glad to see someone else likes the Stanley insulated cups.
They are great cups! Thanks Billie.
Enjoy watching your channels and your follow ups to Alone. Love you guys!
Thanks James
You're such a great couple. Enjoy both channels.
Yeah, What Richard said. The reasons for each of the items was very interesting. Thumbs Up. Florida, USA
Thanks Axelbrode!
Great video as always. Thank you! 👍🏼👍🏼
Wow the white tarp as a moral pick me up is such a great idea
So much better than green
Love the Steger Mukluks. I have the same exact pair.
Whoot whoot! 24 years together ❤ now! So happy I found your channels! Loved you both on both Alone series!!😃🌿🌱🌿
Welcome aboard!
Awesome.
It is so refreshing and such a joy to watch you two. Just incredible. Thanks for all the great information and positive life lessons. ❤👍👍
Wow congrats! Thanks for the comment and tell your wife we said Hi.
Another great video! Many thanks for the share.
So much i agree with. The tarp, soap, a heavy axe, etc.
Thanks
I have seen some more recent seasons of Alone. Didn't know you were on it. Going back to watch it...
You'll love it up there. Let us know if you have any questions about AK! We'll answer whatever we can.

I nailed white corrugated fiberglass panels on the roof of my shop. Never need to turn the lights on during the day! Nice and bright!
Thats what I want, a bright space to work in.
Awesome video. Soap- must have.
You can do alot of small knife tasks with a large knife but you can't do any large knife tasks with a small knife.
Thats a really good point. Well put.
Love this. Wish I was there also. Good people. I miss camping out. 😃👍🏻
Thanks Timothy. It was a nice day to sit by the fire.
You two are awesome.
Thanks!
The soap was surprising but absolutley agree!
Good information. We have an old pot we have had for 45 years, we take it camping and to picnics. Thanks
Thanks QTE!
Loved the video guys. I really enjoyed seeing what you chose, why and if you would take it again. It was very insightful What you said about the white tarps made a lot of sense. I would never have thought of that. My wife and I were really pulling for you during your time there.
Thanks BMBAO. I think the site tarp thing will catch on. I could not imagine using a blue one.
If there is such a thing as a transparent tarp it might be good coz you can get some extra heat from the light.
Very intelligent discussion on the axe. Also I never considered the colour of a tarp.
Really enjoyed watching you two in this. I have only had the privilege to see a couple of the alone shows with you guys in it, but plan to watch them all soon. Great choices of items and appreciate the whys more than anything
Thanks DC&A!
Great thoughts on the white tarps. Hadn't considered color making a difference.
I’ve got a white tarp and love it. A light tan color is pleasant as well. Anything darker or “louder” definitely gets irritating.
yes ...blue, brown and dark green are the worst
You guys are awesome.
i love you guys. i got a whistle kettle for my open fire. i love it because i can full it up n start stuff.
right on. Thanks
