    Studio One is by far the best DAW out there. You're doing an amazing job!

    You guys are awesome, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your consistent content and how it’s delivered. I just switched from Cubase to S1 and your content cut my learning curve in half. I can tell you guys care, and are striving to improve your product. I like the way your developers think too, it’s like S1 is the Apple of Daw’s, while the others are Windows 10. Now if only you had automatic snap to scale for incoming midi notes lol.

    SO4 Pro user here, I have a few suggestions for time signature/tempo features that I'd like to see in SO6:
    1. Make compound time signatures work with the metronome. It doesn't play the correct tempo if the mark is set to a dotted note. (Not sure if fixed in SO5?)
    2. Be able to move a selection of times signatures along the track simultaneously. If you have a section (or bar) with a different time signature that you want to move to a different part of the song, it takes several precarious steps to do this. If it could be possible to do a quick select and drag then that would be amazing. (Again not sure if fixed in SO5?)
    3. Multiple simultaneous tempi/time signatures for metric modulations and polytempi works. I know that this is probably not a 'popular' feature, but it would be a great addition for experimental artists/producers. This is defintely worth looking into if Presonus are serious about expanding their notation software market.

      Until there's a feature like that, you should working with Patterns (for melodic stuff - convert parts to patterns after composing with the piano roll). There's the limitation to 64 steps, but interesting (semi-generarive) stuff can happen!

      @@bahgo Same here. I find it incredibly frustrating that this cannot be done _easily_. I really can't understand why poly metrics cannot be done, since they can be performed. The same goes for poly tonal passages. All it would take is to make key & time signatures per track, or at least per group / folder, instead of being global. Nearly every DAW I've looked at has the same problem. (Bitwig seems to be an exception, but it has its own quirks.)

    Great stuff as always, Gregor, but for the love of the universe, please get PreSonus to support COMPOUND time signatures (e.g. 12/8, 6/8, where the dotted quarter is the beat.) It's a major flaw in an otherwise great piece of software.

    Is there a way to have the tempo count dotted quarter notes? I'm writing a song that switches from 4/4 to 12/8, but the tempo is treated as quarter note = x instead of dotted quarter = x

    • @iamtheimagedoctor
      @iamtheimagedoctor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES! If you are in 12/8 at 120 every 2 beats on the metronome equals the 120. You can change your time signature to 4/4 and then quantize to 8th note triplets. BUT there should be an easier way around this.

    • @iamtheimagedoctor
      @iamtheimagedoctor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To make the metronome work for a dotted quarter add half again to the time signature. If a dotted quarter equals 80 just added 40 and set your tempo at 120, etc.

    • @The1Composer
      @The1Composer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @iamtheimagedoctor thanks for the advice! I just kept the same tempo but set the time signature to 6/4 it got the effect I was looking for especially when I use sibelius as a plug-in.

  • @l2a2

    Great work Gregor, can we move the metronome tone around in say 7/8 so we can have it say beat at 3/4 4/4 = 7/8 or 4/4 3/4 = 7/8 all within that time signature? /Like in Cubase's click pattern editor

      To be clear @aidange2, v5+ STILL doesn't support compound time signatures. I've been asking for this for 4 years and my post on their support portal has received plenty of upvotes. Apparently, the fine people at PreSonus do not understand that a dotted quarter or dotted 8th can be the beat. You would think Gregor would understand this, but...

    Can you go from 4/4 quarter note to 6/8 with dotted quarter note as the click base? Mean quarter = dotted quarter (found very common in music). DP and Pro Tools can. Cubase, Logic and well, StudioOne can not. Not sure why that is. John Williams and many others in film and classical music use all the time. Can you please make that as an update? Thanks

    If we want to insert proper accidentals on a key change in the score view we can block out all the measures contained in the key change in score view and use the flat/sharp enharmonic tool, clicking it once to put in accidentals that correspond to the proper key.

When we open it again years later, if the virtual instruments we used in that project are no longer installed on our computer or the instrument name has changed and if we don't remember the instruments/patch/presets etc on the tracks, can we revive that project? Is there a method (or macro) the convert 4/4 into 6/8, while correcting the tempo and aligning the markers correctly? A friend of mine has some music he wrote in 4/4, with a bunch of triplets, that another "expert" told him actually needed to be changed to 6/8 or 12/8 to make more sense. Various attempts have resulted in whacked out tempos and displaced markers. Any help would be appreciated.

      @@studioonetutorials You must have just a really magical machine. If I run a lot of Kontakt instances for example, or host them in VEP there will be trouble. Granted, it may not necessarily a Studio One issue, probably mostly a Kontakt problem with tempo-synced instruments. But still, between the two it can get troublesome. If there was a general CC automation command that would let me disengage tempo sync in Kontakt temporarily (or other sample players that use this technique) that would probably be most helpful, though this would require cross-company co-operation which in this competitive business world is a rather rare occurrence.

    Time signatures are useless when you can't set the metronome mark. Everything is based on a crochet (quarter note). Not every piece of music uses the quarter note as its metronome mark and all tempos in S1 v5 are quarter note based. What about dotted quarter note for a metronome? Even basic metronome apps can do this but studio one can't!
