DarkLightAvenger * His point is that he's an ignorant, uneducated buffoon who doesn't know much, but doesn't want it to show, so he's trying to make himself look clever by saying, "I'm so smart that I can figure out anything in just a couple of minutes." All these people who say they know the whole story - if you asked them about how this story was resolved in court, they won't know.
Andrew St. Clair My point is that Tim Burton is the most overrated filmmaker ever, and he completely missed the point of a trailer, which is getting a taste of the movie not TELLING THE FUCKING STORY, from the trailer I can say without doing any research, that this will be a story about a lonely, divorced awkward artist, who moves to a big town, meets this charming man, falls in love, gets married, his weird paintings are a success, his husband takes the credit for them, they start living a dream life, she gets jealous and wants credit, they fight, they both start losing their mind and go to court, you're right I don't know the final veredict of the court, but from this trailer I honestly couldn't give less fucks, have a nice day.
Mauricio Berlanga Your point was that Tim Burton is the missed overrated filmmaker ever? When the hell was that ever the point, Here's your first post, stupid. "The trailer just told me the whole story... thank you very much" Nowhere in there did you mention Tim Burton, and certainly nothing about him as a filmmaker. You just pulled that bit out of your ass. And congratulations. The trailer has revealed to you what anybody with a little bit of knowledge about anything would know. All the trailer did was catch you up to what smart people already knew. I'm glad that you said you didn't know the verdict of the trial, because that also demonstrates that you don't know how the trial went down as well. In fact, if I hadn't mentioned it, you wouldn't have even known there was a trial. So, you're going to pretend to be smart and claim that you know the whole thing now, but you don't. You're an uneducated buffoon.
My boyfriend, his brother, and I saw this on Christmas Day when it came out. Unbroken was sold out and we didn't want to waste the drive so saw this instead. We LOVED it.
An then people check there smart phones to see what happened in her life an you know the whole story. Reading about her took another couple of minutes. So yeah you're rite. Great movie. Thanks TH-cam and Wikipedia lmao.
Salah Al-Bloushi Well, everyone knew the story of the Titanic before they made a movie of it so what was the point of making that movie and it's one of the highest grossing movies of all time,
Tim Burton has been my favorite director for a long time and Lana has been my favorite singer for a long time too. I heard about Lana singing 2 songs in a film and I wanted to see the movie. As I found out it was a Tim Burton movie I freaked out, having 2 of my favorites in one movie is incredible. After I watched it I saw an interview Lana did where she talked about working with Tim on the movie. But, this movie is great
It honestly kills me to read all of the comments with people ripping on Tim. I've grown up watching his films and enjoying his art and (yes!) collaborations with the people he works well with and enjoys the company. In my mind he's a genius.
Great film! I lost faith in Tim Burton for a while but this was really a fantastic movie. I'm an artist myself and I can not imagine doing all that hard work to have somebody claim it as their own!
Yeah, I know. I would hate if I spent a lot of hard work on something and someone took all the credit for it and I got nothing and no one knew it was me.
+warhamster07 He's got all these little gestures in every single role that he's played, such a terrific actor, love his performances especially in QT's movies.

If this trailer is any indication of his new work, then I hope not. He hasn't made a single solid good movie since Batman Returns. He's had a few alright movies here and there since, but nothing that even compares to his Beetlejuice days.
That last scene gave me chills as the lady who asked the question appeared to have big eyes and is a sort of figurative way of expressing the artist's threshold for the lie, I'm 18 by the way I saw all of this in one scene

well seeing how it is based off of true events duh you would know about it. It's not about plot twists but portrayals and how it comes off. That's how movies based off of true events usually are and its not that big of a deal you are making it out to be
I saw this movie last night and loved it. I never saw the trailer before, now after I've seen the movie I'm checking it out and this trailer really does spoil a lot of elements of the movie. Margaret Keane became a Jehovah's Witness. When she learned what the bible teaches her paintings changed from sad children with big eyes to very happy children with big eyes. Where as her previous paintings depicted sad children in sad places and settings, her new paintings featured happy children in happy places and settings. I really hope Burton hasn't left this out of the movie. Becoming a Jehovah's Witness is a pivotal moment in her life and career, and a major reason why her paintings took on a happier, brighter style. It reflected her feelings.
For those who aren't familiar with Burton's early work, his best films have always been the simplest with a touch of fantasy, I'll be honest his recent work isn't all that good, but this one represents his origins and for those who know his origins will understand.
The movie is beautiful and Amy Adams is brilliant in her portrayal of Margaret Keane. She should get an Oscars for this. Like to watch all the movies on boxxy software it has even adult content and everything is for free.
I'm not even joking. My mom, aunt and Uncle had 'big eyed' pictures back in the 60s. And my Mother named one Julie. She used to talk to it every night and when they moved out of the house they lived out of the house they lived in my Mom said Julie doesn't want to be moved or she'll be extremely upset. To this day my family claims that the grass in the picture where Julie stood grew. So she was left on the wall. I'm going to watch this movie just so I can see if the 'Julie' painting is there.
My mother always liked creepy stuff. Also as a child she played in the the attic and talked to a picture of an old man. My Grandma would tell her to come down and she said that Bill likes company. On Halloween a neighbor kid was going as the mister peanut guy so my grandma went upstairs to the attic to get a cane. My mom freaked out and said don't take it because Bill will get angry. He doesn't want his things touched. Later on my grandma was talking to the landlord and asked who owned the apartment before him. He said it was a guy named Bill. My mom also smelled like cigar smoke and Bill smoked.
After listening to the one and only Lana Del Rey's song for this movie, I had an image in my head that it would be like a cartoon sorta movie, like Coraline ('Kids' movie but kinda scary).
I'm actually so pumped up for this movie! Tim Burton is one of my favourite directors (I can't believe all the comments giving him hell) and Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams are amaing actors. Bring it on!
This movie looks absolutely incredible!! I had no idea the story behind these paintings; I have one in my room and I think it is just the cutest thing! I cannot wait until this movie comes out!!
Probably Oscar bait. I bet the only good thing about this move is going to be Amy Adams. Other than that I probably wouldn't even give it the time of day.
***** Nah, again, just going by experience and the fact that I'm very aware of the directors movies. Like I said, I don't talk shit, I go by what I have seen previously. It will only be great because of Amy, not because of Tim Burton's ability to direct. pretty much common knowledge.
I can't wait to see this compelling story of Margaret Keane! Tim Burton's spin will be quite interesting to see, big fan of his work & Amy Adams is a fave :)
ysoof groof Tim Burton is a great director, Ed Wood is one of the best films ever made, easily. But over the past decade he's mainly done big budget adaptations like Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows and both of those were really lousy films. His dark spirally visuals have become cliched and lazy, he's a visionary but after a while his movies just start to blend together. This looks new, it looks like a Burton film but it doesn't have Johnny Depp or the worn out visuals.I'm happy he's doing something remotely new, that's all.
Hunter Helms Have you seen Alice in Wonderland, it was pretty crappy. He's making a movie that doesn't necessarily fit his already established Tim Burton motifs, that doesn't just cater to the Hot Topic crowd. It's take effort to not just rest on your laurels, it's daring and once upon time Burton was a visionary daring director, I'd like to see him be that again.
Mike White I've seen it several times. I'm such a huge Tim Burton fan that even Alice and Dark Shadows are my guilty pleasures! Really, AIW is creative in it's visuals but for me that's it! If it wasn't for the Lewis Carroll source material, I'd say that the many plot points of Burton's Alice makes little to no sense.....
Big Eyes seems like a wonderful film. I am expecting that the movie should get nomination in categories such as Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Costume Design. Best Picture still seems impossible for the movie. Best Original Screenplay high chances. In Best Actress category Amy Adams will get nomination. But the chances for her to win is less as soon as Julianne Moore show up with Still Alice this year. In Best Supporting Actor category Christoph Waltz has very less chances since its overcrowded year for that category. And the Best Costume Design got a bit chances for nomination.
Leavemea Lone Are you serious about this. Rosamund Pike facing a serious competition from much more potential performance from Jennifer Anniston in Cake and Julianne Moore from Still Alice. And even Amy Adams considered as Oscar winner this year for her performance in Big Eyes
A.S Alfred OOOO and I just noticed the oscar nominations- Nominated for best actress in a leading role: ROSAMUND PIKE. See, she's right next to Jennifer Aniston and amy a- OOOOO.... WAIT. They're not on there. Whoops. Awkward.
Christoph Waltz has played the husbands of a few characters played by actresses who are quite a bit younger than him. For example, Reese Witherspoon in Water For Elephants, Kate Winslet in Carnage and Amy Adams in this movie.
finally a Tim Burton movie that is not a dark remake of something that didn't need to be remade, and finally a Tim Burton movie with colors other than black
Osamu Tezuka,, aka God of Manga, was the FIRST one to start implementing the "big eyes" into an art form. He's best known for Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion, Tezuka was instrumental in developing Japanese animation and modern manga comics. As a result he ultimately changed the aspect of an entire culture and created a bold new and original style of art.
@@awkwardguy8238 No. Margaret Keane (born Peggy Doris Hawkins September 15, 1927) says she got her inspiration when she started painting portraits of children in the late 1950's. "Children do have big eyes. When I'm doing a portrait, the eyes are the most expressive part of the face. And they just got bigger and bigger and bigger." Keane says. Osamu Tezuka (born November 3, 1928; died Februeary 8, 1989) at age 17 published his first manga in the late 1940's, "Princess Knight" and Shoujo Manga was then dominated by the big-eye style. Right around that same time and age Peggy was attending the Traphagen School of Design in New York for a year. Then ten years later in the 1950's she began a career in painting big-eye portraits. That's also around the same time when Tezuka published his second major success "Kimba the White Lion" and then soon later "Astro Boy". I'm still unable to find any sources that directly link Tezuka to Keane or Keana to Tezuka. But judging from these evidential dates and times, Keane's big-eye look is at best analogous to Tezuka's and she in fact did *not* "create" the big-eye style; and that Tezuka was most certainly *not* inspired by nor influenced by Keane, and that he was the one who did in fact "create" the big-eye style.
I miss Helena Bonham Carter , she is beautifully creepy and have big eyes... maybe a little participation.... But is a little strange not see dark scenes and monsters in a Tim's movie....
I just saw this movie tonight. Actually just came back home. And all I got to say is that this was a good movie. Don't just judge the movie on the trailer guys. You need to actually go and see it to judge it. It's a good and decent movie.
Hell, Im going to sound like a stuck up hipster for this but..Tim burton has made tons of amazing films. I was very shocked to read the comments here, yes Johnny and Helena aren't in this flick, yes it goes against Tim burtons traditional style, but it saddens me to see that the one film that gets people all excited is this one, versus what Tim's traditional style. Change is good, but I rather see the praise for his dark and eerie films, cause thats HIS style, this movie looks good but never would I think it would be a burton film. Sad to see that his art is not really appreciated for what it is, and that he gave in to "pleasing the people".
Well search for "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" which is going to be Burtons next movie - this will be burtonish like hell ^^ He often makes movies, which are a little more "normal" , like big fish or Ed Wood and as long as he makes it well i don't have any problems with that ... well tbh this trailer didn't excited me neither, because it sounds pretty boring for me, but i will definitely see it because ... Burton :D
I think that you're forgetting that Tim Burton has always loved the artist Margaret Keane and admired her work. He's probably seen her artwork when he was a little boy or when he was in his teens or twenties. He's probably always loved her style. Have you ever wondered why Tim made some of his characters with big eyes in some of his movies like Corpse Bride? I believe his inspiration came from his idol artist Margaret Keane. It's what motivated him to become an artistic film director. That is why he choose to make a movie about her. Maybe Margaret's story is something that reminded Tim to be very careful not to let anyone take advantage of his works. His new film called Big Eyes is to also let other artists know to be careful too.
If you think about Edward Scissorhands, although the story was kind of dark and melancholy, it had a kind of eerie brightness (those little colored houses, the constant sunshine, the outfits.) That gave it a really synthetic feel, which might be what he's going with here.
One of my friends in school did a presentation on Margret Keene and it was really interesting that I'm going to watch it as the way she explained it was amazing
He really was like that though. He was abusive, money-hungry and well to the extent of doing what he did before she ran away with her little girl (dont wanna give spoilers)
May I introduce the new Tim Burton duo: Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz. I would be ecstatic about that because I love them both so much hahaha. Seeing this today. Can't wait!
I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, I love art and I'm interested in learning about her, because this was her life before she became one of Jehovah's witnesses. :)
Holy shit, a Tim Burton movie without Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter?!
I KNOW RIGHT!?!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!!!?
(i like Johnny Depp though)
he casted his children.........
Sam Konkel Danny Elfman is a very close friend of Tim Burton
it's been that way before, so?
There’s quite a lot without him
this is probably the most realistic and normal movie Tim Burton has ever made
I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad
Ed Wood was pretty normal. Well, normal considering that Ed Wood was a very strange person
What I mean is this doesn't feel like a Tim Burton film. It does not have his signature style that we love
True. There is some surrealism though. With Amy Adams seeing the large eyes on a person
Kind of I guess
SnarkyCharms its real...not surrealism...all the actors have big eyes with make-up to enhance.
Another possible Oscar nomination for Amy Adams but probably lose again. She's the female version of Leonardo DiCaprio.
Or the Meryl Streep of her generation.
I say the same thing
She is the female version of Amy Adams
She won gold globe for this role
You should watch catch me if you can, Amy Adams and Leonardo DiCaprio are both in it : )

Wow! This is a great story! Thanks for sharing.
I'm so glad this movie shed light on this issue. I probably would never have learned the story behind this art without it !
After listening to the one and only Lana Del Rey's song for this movie, I had an image in my head that it would be like a cartoon sorta movie, like Coraline ('Kids' movie but kinda scary).
coraline was hella scary XDDD but i also imagined the movie to be like that
I cried when I watched the movie😢😢😢😢😢omg Chilllllzzzz
me too :'v
Makayla Emery Me too. Lowkey disappointed...
omg Coraline!!! 😲 loved that movie so much!!!! scary lol
I'm glad Amy Adams is expanding her role finally
Saw it today! AN AMAZING story and film.
Definitely an Oscar Winning performance for Amy Adams.
I'm actually so pumped up for this movie! Tim Burton is one of my favourite directors
(I can't believe all the comments giving him hell) and Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams are amaing actors. Bring it on!
Very nice movie, I can't believe she held on to that secret for so long!
This looks really good, Amy can pull off literally any role, love her!
This movie looks absolutely incredible!! I had no idea the story behind these paintings; I have one in my room and I think it is just the cutest thing! I cannot wait until this movie comes out!!
There are two outcomes for this movie:
a. Great movie and 10/10
b. Oscar bait
Lets see which one it is.
Probably Oscar bait. I bet the only good thing about this move is going to be Amy Adams. Other than that I probably wouldn't even give it the time of day.
Implying that a movie can't be both.
***** Nah, again, just going by experience and the fact that I'm very aware of the directors movies. Like I said, I don't talk shit, I go by what I have seen previously. It will only be great because of Amy, not because of Tim Burton's ability to direct. pretty much common knowledge.
Nostalgic_Chaos Actually, I was referring to +Mauricio Peñaranda's statement - so yes, you were in fact talking shit. :)
***** You = Past.
Yay a movie wear witnesses are actually being portrayed as the good people they are
I can't wait to see this compelling story of Margaret Keane! Tim Burton's spin will be quite interesting to see, big fan of his work & Amy Adams is a fave :)
I'm glad Tim Burton is actually starting to put some effort back into his films.
Yeah because he put no efforts at all into working for months and months on Alice In Wonderland, Dark Shadows and Frankenweeni!
Douchebag
ysoof groof Tim Burton is a great director, Ed Wood is one of the best films ever made, easily.
This brought Tim Burton back for me in a big way! Beautiful movie!
I LOVE Christoph Waltz. One of my favorite actors right now and this looks like another Oscar win for him!
The moment I saw Amy Adams' name, I know this shall be a great movie!!
I still believe that Rosamund Pike has a real shot at the Oscars. Let's see how that pans out though when the nominations come out.
Leavemea Lone Are you serious about this. Rosamund Pike facing a serious competition from much more potential performance from Jennifer Anniston in Cake and Julianne Moore from Still Alice. And even Amy Adams considered as Oscar winner this year for her performance in Big Eyes
Looks like Amy Adams just won so.....
A.S Alfred Yep, seen all of those movies and still believe Rosamund Pike put up an incredible performance that at least deserves some recognition.
A.S Alfred OOOO and I just noticed the oscar nominations- Nominated for best actress in a leading role: ROSAMUND PIKE. See, she's right next to Jennifer Aniston and amy a- OOOOO.... WAIT. They're not on there. Whoops. Awkward.
I've known her artworks since the 90's, just didn't know she went through so much just to be known as the true artist to her artworks...
Amy Adams should've been Oscar-nominated for this movie and also for Arrival. She deserves an Oscar it aint fair.
I learnt big eyes drawings. I can still. Love her heart and work ❣️
Ah, it's like that Simpson's episode when Marge learns carpentry, but Homer takes credit. Very good.
Christoph Waltz has played the husbands of a few characters played by actresses who are quite a bit younger than him. For example, Reese Witherspoon in Water For Elephants, Kate Winslet in Carnage and Amy Adams in this movie.
A great movie... I am an artist and I know what is like when someone rips you off.
this is honestly my favourite movie

finally a Tim Burton movie that is not a dark remake of something that didn't need to be remade, and finally a Tim Burton movie with colors other than black
But big eyes wasn't inspired by him?
But judging from these evidential dates and times, Keane's big-eye look is at best analogous to Tezuka's and she in fact did *not* "create" the big-eye style; and that Tezuka was most certainly *not* inspired by nor influenced by Keane, and that he was the one who did in fact "create" the big-eye style.
omg i'm so hype to see something so unique and different come out. this is something i've totally been waiting for
cant wait to hear lanas voice in the movie!
Tim burtom Again with your magic in movies!
Amy Adams is amazing...
I can't wait
I miss Helena Bonham Carter , she is beautifully creepy and have big eyes... maybe a little participation.... But is a little strange not see dark scenes and monsters in a Tim's movie....
It's only strange for people who don't watch Tim Burton movies. For intelligent people and Tim Burton fans, this is nothing surprising.
Andrew St. Clair I watch his movies in movie theater, don't blame me if the "greatest" movies of him dont go to theather....
Jhony August They've all been to theatre since 1985.
ever watched Big Fish?
Walter is the monster.
***** Unless you're Quentin Tarantino, in which case you make the same crap for your entire career.
In truth, he may have wanted a change of tone. He may have felt trapped by people like you expecting something dark.
If you think about Edward Scissorhands, although the story was kind of dark and melancholy, it had a kind of eerie brightness (those little colored houses, the constant sunshine, the outfits.) That gave it a really synthetic feel, which might be what he's going with here.
This movie was amazing! Not normally something I would watch but glad I did...Amy Adams gave an Oscar worthy performance
2:13 snapchat filters went wrong
oh my gosh, no one laughed!
One of my friends in school did a presentation on Margret Keene and it was really interesting that I'm going to watch it as the way she explained it was amazing
sooo we've seen the whole movie thanks to this trailer
If anyone’s trying to find the song from the trailer then it’s called Perfectly Aligned by Milo Greene.
Anybody who bullies and dominates anyone is a horror movie
I saw this movie and loved it. I really admire Margret Keane and her work
I really f**king adore this film. It's so good! #timburtonkills
It doesn't seem like Tim Burton's movie but i'm gonna watch it anyway.... Love all the story and actors... Well done Tim !
OMG THIS LOOKS VERY VERY VERY INTERESTING I SO WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE =D
I'm so shocked. She has not been nominated for the oscar,
Holy shit. Is Tim Burton actually trying to be a legitimate filmmaker??
I believe he tried that once with a movie called Ed Wood and it paid off a great deal!
PotterPointFilms
I know. But, this actually feels even more legit than that.
you clearly haven't seen Big Fish
666Barbaro
I did and it was just as insane as any other Tim Burton film.
I have no idea what you mean by this making him more 'legitimate'
It looks good shooting it set in the 50's. Some of us want to take a short vacation and go back into the past. This movie does it perfectly. Bravo.
Actually a very unsettling film. Disturbing to say the least
Why do you say that lol?
Opulence Phoenix
the way he acted. he was abusive. disturbing
Coco The Ripper lol he was just a money hungry slob he was a riot
Well, it's a Tim Burton's movie
He really was like that though. He was abusive, money-hungry and well to the extent of doing what he did before she ran away with her little girl (dont wanna give spoilers)
Amy Adams was amazing in HER
I came here for lana 😍 and First 🐰🐰
Omg yes
same xD
May I introduce the new Tim Burton duo: Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.
I would be ecstatic about that because I love them both so much hahaha. Seeing this today. Can't wait!
This movie is good! I thought it was gonna be a bit slow and over dramatic. There's a lot of funny moments in this movie
I adore Amy Adams.
I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, I love art and I'm interested in learning about her, because this was her life before she became one of Jehovah's witnesses. :)
