- In December of 2023, racing champion David Donohue drove John Hennessey's stock 2023 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 into the record books at Austin's Circuit of the Americas racetrack. The C8 Z06 was optioned with the very rare Z07 track package, exposed carbon fiber wheels, and carbon fiber aero. The conditions of the track on this day were poor and effected what could have been an even faster lap time, but nevertheless, Donohue persevered and managed to run an incredible 2:19:18.
Buckle up for an incredible first-person look at the record lap. The Corvette is completely stock with no modifications at the time of this run. Lap times and record was captured through the General Motors 'Performance Data Recorder' in the Corvette.

That 5.5l flat plane crank is one of my favorite engines. N/A with revs and shifts like that is unbeatable

The engine sounds unreal in person, cold starts revs and down shifts are amazing
We all agree that N/A is superior than turbo in term of sound
I’m more so speaking on the flat plane crank on the z06 versus the stingray they are both N/A

This car is the Chevy Corvette I have waited my whole life to own. The problem I'm having is trying to buy one. I've been dealing with an exceptionally honest dealer Aaron Miller, but the whole team is exceptional at ( Leach Wilson) in Shelbyville IL. They told me from day one that they would sell the car to me at sticker there . I've been waiting for 3 years now to get one. The dealerships have been gouging the customers, and Chevy hasn't been sending them anywhere but to a few chosen dealerships. Some of the people I know have decided not to buy one now. They moved off and bought Audi's or Porsche's. Chevrolet you need to try to get out to the other markets, I've been a Chevy guy, especially performance Chevy, since I was 17. ( I owned a 70 Chevelle SS 396) Now that I've raised my family and waited my whole life, I want the car of my dreams. Please get it to us Chevy purists!

So why is Hennessy claiming a track production car record at 2'10"90 in the Venom F5? This was done March 5, 2024.

Strange it got down to 33 mph in some turns and only went 155 mph on the straight line speed. I think there is a lot more time to shave off the lap.
Very mid lap and not the best lines I have seen tbh. Some corners he enters way to narrow and not wide enough like T8. He also lost ALOT in the T15 and 16 braking zone with a very weird entry. Im pretty sure T2 couldve also been quicker.
So overall id say with a younger PRO driver there is atleast a 2:16 on the table if not more...
It would be so awesome if you guys could offer a GT3 inspired kit, similar to a pratt&miller C8 C8 GT3 for the Stingray and Z06.
Not even a power bump, but just more aero like wing, splitter, diffusor, vents, and suspension. All in one package with a good balance, just to improve cornering speed.
I bet many people would get it and id sell like hotcakes 🔥💪

Base C8’s have been quicker than this at COTA… albeit they weren’t stock. But no crazy mods just dampers/tires/brakes
They did say in the intro that the weather was crappy and that the car definitely had more in it, I'm assuming somewhat damp/slick track conditions for this vid, in which case that's an excellent time.
You should make a Hennessy powered c8 z06
GM should put a DRS system on that rear spoiler.
There was some time left on the table. Turns 3-5 were excellent but they were other areas 8-9-10, 11, 15, 16-19 where there was more time that could be gained.
@4:24 It kinda sounds like a torque converter on those upshifts. Is the DCT slipping or is that just traction control?
I think GM allows for the clutches to slip a bit more in the Z06 than in the Stingray.
Was this done on the Chevy recommended track alignment specs or standard road alignment?
Apparently standard road alignment from the article. “Remained in standard factory configuration”
why the rpm was dropping like that after all upshift? would expect in 2nd or 3rd gear but it happened up to 5th gear as well
I've watched Rom Fellow setting the track record at MoSport in a stock Z06. I can't see Ron shifting. In this video I don't see Daved shifting ether. If I'm wrong, please tell me. Next, I want to see both of them on each track in a E-Ray. I think the E-Ray will brake both these records.
The Z06 set a much faster lap at VIR. Eray isn't a track star. Z06 ran 2'38"6, the Eray did it in 2'45"9. Wasn't even close. Eray topped out at 147.3 mph on front straight to the Z06's 159.5. Now the Eray didn't have the Cup 2R's of the Z06, but those won't pick it up enough difference to make it up, especially being heavier and with more weight and 12.2 mph faster on the long straight.
I watched it a couple times. Steering seems aggressive . Acceleration much slower than I thought. Then again… I’m not driving. It’s Hennessy. It must be terrific.👍

Formula1 cars are around 1:35 ish, MotoGP bike record at COTA is 2:01-2:03 ish... Nascar Cup cars do it 2:12-2:13, if i remember right. It's my home track :)

@@genemounceSr Agreed and you do remember correctly... NASCAR pace is 2:10 laps at qualifying on 3/25/2023 and the top speed on the back run was 174 mph!!! BTW, The official F1 lap record at COTA is 1:36.139 set by Charles Leclerc driving for Ferrari in the 2019 United States Grand Prix. That's about 43 seconds quicker than the Z06 per lap. So an F1 would put a Z06 down a lap in less than 2 laps! WOW!

I noticed he was on track mode but the fastest lap was on sport mode. Why did he change? Was there a benefit for sport mode? I thought track mode would give you all the power the car had.

If you want to cut C8 lap times, settle the car and make it more responsive you might try a Speedway Composites Chassis Strut X Brace
Hennessy how much longer until you crack that ecu so we can see the 1000+ HP builds?
You won’t be seeing 1000 hp builds with an LT6. The engine is practically tapped out as is by GM, being a race engine and everything. It also has a compression ratio of 12.5:1. A hypothetical 1000 horsepower LT6 would explode into pieces.
Once the ECU is cracked and twin turbos are added big power gains on the LT6 engine are coming. That’s cute if you think we are buying this type of car and leaving it stock because GM already maxed it out.

Well twin turbos on a 12:5:1 engine has been done before several times over, Hennessy Performance has even twin turbo’d a 458. What has not been done before is cracking the C8 Z06’s ECU so it can be tuned, and the real fun can begin!

it took ohc to do it, them ole push rod junks make more tq but cant rev and we all know hp wins races not tq, looks like ford was right all along when they developed their ohc engines and ditched push rod garbage
