      I have a 2004 Chevy Tahoe which is not wanting to automatically shift from 1st to 2nd gear it’s only after I let off the gas and let my rpm go down can you feel it shift I know there is no way to tell when it will go out but is there a way to make it last longer

    thank you for your time. I have a 2001 GMC and it's not shift in ad of second and third on Drive so I'm going to change them solenoids and see what happens thank you again

    For the 1996 Chevy Tahoe (5.7L with 4L60E) it is the RED (C2) connector on the VCM. Pin 4 is 2-3 solenoid and pin 6 is the 1-2 solenoid. In the fuse panel it is fuse 20 labeled "Trans".
    I'm recieving the P0758 and driving in limp mode. I have 20ish ohms on the 1-2 solenoid but 4.2 ohms on the 2-3 solenoid. What would cause less resistance?

    i have the same problem with a 2000 silverado 5.3 i bought for cheap because it had a tranny with no 3rd or 4th and burnt fluid so i swapped in my good 4l60e from another 2000 silverado and it still has the same problem no 3rd or 4th... i did the ohms testing you showed here and the 2-3 solenoid was showing good over 23... What else could it be? ive checked all fuses looked for broken wires cleaned all the connectors cleaned up grounds still nothing. Ive swapped in my computer from my other truck to try and still the same problem no 3rd or 4th.. I unplugged the tranny and went for a drive in limp mode and it goes to 3rd and only 3rd so i know its working but just cant figure this out. Also i suddenly lost my speedometer while looking for the tranny problem so i tried swapping in my other speed sensors from my other truck still nothing as well

    So I did every step I tested the#47 from computer to connector and didn’t get a beep as showed in video. Next I put pin in #47 and removed fuse panel and pulled Igno fuse. My ohms showed 21.5 there. Next I put pin in #48 1/2 shift S reading was 21.5 there. Next I tested Torque Coverter S #42 I got 24.1. So why I don’t have 3 and 4th gear? It will shift in 1st and 2sec and when it try and go to 3rd it’s like it’s in Neutral

    This happen to my 03 Silverado, it did not produes a code. I found this just by checking the the transmission with my Verus scanner after I was having trouble with my transmission not going into gear both drive and reverse. So I brought my truck to AAMCO told the owner of the transmission shop what was going on. He said he would do a free diagnostic check on the transmission and let me know what was going on. I then told him I scanned the transmission and found that I had a short/open to ground, he said you can't trust the scanner to give you good information. He did the check and told me the computer and wire harness was ok. Well after getting an estimate on his suggested transmission rebuild of as he put it $1.800.00 worst case sinerio, holding the truck hostage with the transmission out and apart it ended up costing me $3.900.00. After I picked up the truck and putting it back on my trusty snap-on scanner, the short to ground problem was still showing up on the scanner. The rebuild did cosist of the shift silonoyds being replaced, I do remember him saying this because I recorded the conversation. Busted. After doing the same check you did in this great video the problem like you lead me back to the internals of the transmission. So I got ripped off. I am a diagnostician and I use Mitchell prodemand for their wiring diagrams and other information. Your video helped me tremendously and you are good mechanic keep up the great videos thank you very much.

    Thank you for this detailed video... i'm driving a 95 GMC k1500 Suburban 5.7L with the same automatic transmission... the original problem i had with the this truck was it not shifting into gear properly at the column. So i changed out the cable and got it adjusted. now my problem is that even though it will manually shift properly at the column. when i get up to 45- 50 mph it will not continue shifting into the next gear but instead of course high revs. Would this mean that its a solenoid or is it possibly the neutral safety switch?

      I know being a 95 it is pre-OBD2 so there will be computer differences

      Sean Wyma if you had an amp clamp, you could check to see if the computer is commanding the shift. you could also use a voltmeter. but you would need a wire diagram and it has to be lifted in the air

    You should explain what to do next if the solenoid has 20ohms and the solenoid is not the problem. I’ve replaced the computer the ignition switch and both solenoids and im checking all the wire tests you did in the 3 videos. I was hoping this would explain what to do IF the solenoids were good and how to test the wiring inside the transmission

    I have a 2007 Tahoe LTZ and lost 2nd and 4th gear.. With shifter in 3rd.. I have to rev out 1st and blip of the gas to shift into 3rd bypassing 2nd.. Still no 4th gear but can Cruz all day on freeway doing 85 just high rpms because no 4th.. Been driving Tahoe all day every day like this for 6 months.. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated... Thx

    great video's on this.. would everything in these videos apply to a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4×4l60e z71? I've got 1st &2nd ,but no 3rd or drive, if u let off of the gas an hit the gas,it will go to 45mph, but rpms2 are at 2200&winding up. I've got a p1860,p0740, p0740,b2775,c0222 c0221, u1041, I 1000 code. thinking the computer is shorted or a ground,bcoc all of these codes just came out of no where.. thanks 4 any information you provide

    I have a 1999 k1500 5.7l and when I start the truck it goes from first gear up to 3rd gear then goes into limp mode i can turn the truck off for about 5 seconds and crank it back up and it functions correctly until 3rd gear again. I can delete the code while I'm driving and the truck will shift into 4th gear but the Check ingine light will come on and it drops back to 3rd after the light comes on. When I delete the code it will also down shift back to 2nd. I changed the 2-3 solenoid and ran a new wire from the computer to the trans connector and still the same problem. I can ground the wire and I can hear the solenoid click so the solenoid I installed is working. Do you think the VCM is the problem at this point because it seems all the electrical is good going to the solenoid and deleting the code let's it freely shift through the gears for a few seconds so I believe the trans is ok mechanically.

    i just got a 99 Tahoe a few days ago .... i was driving fit today and it seems as if it is lagging a bit and i was trying to get on an onramp to turnpike i had accel kindda hard to get to flow of traffic ... 1st and 2nd seemed fine dont know if it was 3rd or 4th but. truck started shaking like i was going over bumps and it made a weird noise .... i stopped the hard throttle and slowly accelerated and truck seemed normal any ideas what this could be

      +tom carone You need to take it to a transmission shop to verify that the transmission is shifting fine, if you cannot do this yourself. That being said, I have encountered at least two things that made people come into the transmission shop thinking that the transmission was bad. The first thing is a plug exhaust. If the exhaust is restricted, it will cause the vehicle to move sluggish. The second, a stuck brake caliber. If the brake caliber is stuck on, it will slow the vehicle and the vehicle will shake violent on higher speeds.

    great video...I have a 02 Silverado with 89,000 miles no problems till today, won't shift out of 1st gear, speedo does not work, and brake warning light is on. Well kept truck. Truck sat for about 3 weeks without driving it. Any ideas?

      You may have an electrical problem. If it sat, maybe critters chewed on some of the wires. I get that a lot lately.

    Great video. I've replaced my transmission from a salvage yard. I have p0753 A shift electrical problem. just replaced the selonoids on it but problem is still there. only 2 and 3rd gear work. No 1st and 4th gears. is it the computer on the 03 Tahoe to blame?

    Hi I have a 2007 Cadillac SRX when the car is cold it will barely pull but if I let it warm up for 20 or 30 min it go's just fine it shifts into all gears just fine no problems so do you think it's a solenoid problem or do you think the transmission is about shot and will need to be replaced or rebuild & I have no check engine light on either.     Why would a 99 tahoe with a 60l transmission slip in third and when you let up on the gas it goes in sometimes if u hammer down on the gas it'll go in. ?

    Hey brother I'm a collision repair technician I have an 03 Chevy Tahoe and my park gear went out followed immediately by my reverse going out all of my drive gears work fine but I can't back up or put my truck in park it reads on the hud that it's in neutral when the shifter handle is in the park position any insight would be greatly appreciated man I'm not familiar with this kind of problem I've never ran across this in my entire career

      I'd try the neutral safety position sensor on the side of the trans. Can you start it in neutral?

    So this code can be the shift timing solenoid or the a + b solenoids I got code in my Escalade feels like it doesn't have first Kira but after it gets up to about 25-30 it's fine change out the timing solenoid or the A&B solenoid

    Well I dropped my valve body down to replace the gaskets between it and the valve spacer plate. Checked everything to make sure the o-rings where good on all the solenoids and switches. Now I have reverse in every single gear and can't find anything out anywhere that would cause this. I also changed the shift solenoids out. The 1-2 SS plunger was cocking in the bore and getting stuck. I sanded it down in the bite with some 1200 g sand paper. Put all back together and now this. Can you help me?

      Appears as if something is binding in the transmission. It may have to come out and apart.

    I have a 2000 GMC seirra 15000 , and it started out like a misfire so I changed plugs and wires and cap..
    Got the moter running strong, it will shift to every gear. But when I get up to 40 and up it looses power and bucks. I can go faster, but I can't maintain one speed!! I got A Code for the silonoid, A Silonoid, I Think..
    Plz lmk if this sounds like the right thing to do next, se

    Great video, just that i have the this code but its not a faulty solenoid b.
    i have ohms on both pin 47 and 48.
    you didnt say what next step is if you have ohms on both?
    my truck works same this car, shift from first to second to third and then stucks there.
    so when it should put ground to solenoid b it gets a fault messege.
    my is a 2000 silverado with the 4L60e trans and 5,3 eng.
    should i assume its in the ecm?

      I tock out and cleaned valves + replaced both solenoids anyway.
      Spring was good behind b solenoid too.

    I have similar issues in my 2003 Tahoe 4.8 liter. It has an error code for 1-2 shift solenoid. Replaced both solenoids a couple weeks ago and its still in limp mode stuck in 3rd gear. Could it be the PCM damaged or a ground problem?

      +elnacho214 You first have to know if this is an electrical code or a performance code. if it is an electrical code and your replaced the shift solenoids, then it can be the internal wiring harness, the wiring harness going to the pcm or the pcm itself. If it is a performance code, it could be the pcm telling a lie (bad pcm) or and internal problem inside the transmission.

    My code reader keeps saying I have a P0785. I went and changed it and the code still shows up for a while then when the truck stays on a while I can erase it and it’ll stay off for a few hours then it’ll come back. Also my shifts are very hard. It takes off perfectly in 2nd Manual but in D it drags until it gets up to 30mph after higher than normal rpm at 0-10 mph 2000 blazer . What am I missing? I dropped the pan twice and also I have p0300 random/ misfire code as well after changing all plugs and wires new distributor cap .....any help would be much appreciated

    i have a 99 suburban with a 4l60e and i have a b shift fault tranny has been changed and it does the same thing it shifts from 1st to 3rd then no 4th whan i stop its stuck in 3rd i can manually shift it to 1st then to 3rd but after you turn the truck off and back on it shifts from 1st too 3rd but still no 4th what is my problem a bad wire?

    replaced solenoids. per code p0758.
    new fluids, filter. Although it was already done 30k ago. had everything off so just replaced it.
    no shavings in pan and still having issues. same code. check engine light etc. wth. any advice?

    I have a 2004 chevy chevy Tahoe and my truck it can't go past 60 miles and when it goes like 40 to 50 the rpm are way high i want to know if is only the 2 3 solenoid or is the transmission? My truck is only 130 thousand miles on it

      If you have a check engine light on then have it scanned. This is the first step.

      I took it to the mechanic and i paid $130 and they said is the transmission and nothing else but i don't believe it because the truck it have 130 miles and the transmission fluid is pink not smelly and run good on the city but i only can go 40 miles per hour

    What would make not not shift till you get 24 mph than it was shipped to second gear we replace both cell solenoid same problem so I said it is some kind of pen that drops to make it go on the second year is that true well I have to rebuild it or is it can you fix it from the bottom???

      what vehicle do you have? how many miles do you have on the vehicle? does it have a check engine light on? if so, what are the codes? This is the information that you must start with? You must be complete.

    I have a problem with my 02 Tahoe . When I put it in drive it won't take a off. It drags then gradually pics up speed. First, second,third an reverse work fine but drive is dragging. I hope it's the solenoids.. It has close to 200,000 miles. Please reply..

      +rubin hooker If a transmission has high mileage, I do not "spot fix" it. I rebuild it or put in a good used transmission because something else will go wrong. Having said that, the first thing to do is have someone to scan for codes. Then, have someone to take off the transmission pan and inspect for burnt oil, clutch material, metal.

    I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban. Shifting up thru the gears seems to be fine. It is when I'm coming to a stop that it seems there's a problem downshifting from (I guess) 2nd to 1st it hits hard sometimes. It does it more often when its cold outside. It hits so hard sometimes that the first time it did it with my son in the car he thought that someone hit my truck from behind. But like I said, once it is in 1st gear, shifting up thru all the gears its fine. Any ideas?

      Not exactly sure because I also have the issue with the dash not working at times but it is over 200,000 miles questioning3​

      +Julez DeJesus It I was to take a guess, I would say that something is sticking or their is an accumulator spring broken. However, it is just a guess. When a transmission with high miles comes into the shop, I do not play with it or nick pick I rebuild it because there will be many things worn in it. What you can do is take the pan down and see if there is any metal in the pan, also have it scanned for codes. The computer can set codes without turning on a check engine light.

      You need to take it to a transmission shop so that it can be put on a scanner to see if the computer is commanding the downshifts.

    I have a 2003 Tahoe 247k miles when it's not acting up it shifts perfectly not a problem at all, when it is acting up it takes off in second gear and does not have over drive, I have codes, p0740, p0753, p0758, p0785, p1860, I have replaced the fuse box under the hood and the ignition switch down in the column with no luck where do I go from here, it def has to be a bad connection somewhere

      I'd start by checking the top tabs on the IGN 0 fuse to see if it has any voltage. If you replaced the ignition switch, it probably does, but I've read that even new ignition switches are sometimes defective, or faulty. This is a video for the Trailblazer and Envoy, so the fuse is going to be in a different location, likely, but he does a good job of walking you through the process. If you have a voltage reading, it isn't your new ignition switch. It is somewhere between that IGN 0 fuse and the transmission.

    I have a 99 chevy tahoe Lt 4*4. It runs fine when cold, but when it warms up it goes in and out of third gear. Tested solenoids and they are fine.

    hi I have a 2003 yukon slt and has problem shifting to 3rd gear....I put it on Drive and will shift 1 and 2 gear good but 3rd gear wont shift and rpm go really high and still wont shift any suggestions...would really appriciate it

    hey man my van just stoped accelerating around 75 mph then i had no more gears no even reverse, it just wont move, do you recognize that problem i need help

      +questioning3 is there any fuses for the transmission? fluid is at full when i checked it , it just has no movement n im broke as fuck 8'(

    hi i have a problem with a 2000 chevy tahoe .when i turn it on in the morning it runs good but ones i stop it wont shift down to first and says in 3rd i changed the pressure switch and silenoid and keeps reading those codes

    I have a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 4l60e trans and cold start I have all gears up shifting and down shifting but about a mile or 2 miles when I come to a complete stop check engine light comes on and I get code p0785 and it will not down shift and it takes off in 3rd gear and also will not go in the 4th gear which is overdrive but if I clear codes it drives normal for about the same distance need help!!!

      I have changed all solenoids and fluid is clean not burnt at all

      3-2 downshift solenoid, if you changed it then your problem will be a broken spring that is behind the valve that is behind the 3-2 downshift solenoid. Or, it will be a bad wire that goes from the computer to the 3-2 solenoid, or it will be a bad computer. Either way, you are going to have to take it to a transmission shop or you are going to have to take the time to trace it down.

      I have rebuilt a few of these 4l60e completely and never had a problem this one I rebuilt 7 months ago it had been going strong until this happened

      There is someone with this exact problem who want to bring the vehicle to the shop. I told them no, because i have too many hard problems to figure out. The transmission was rebuilt at another shop and he is having this issue. If you changed everything and is still having this problem then time to get a wiring diagram. I do not know which wire is the 3-2 downshift wires. You will have to look on the diagram for this. What I do is cut the wire at the computer and at the case connector and put a fused jumper wire in its place. Then drive the vehicle and see if it goes away. You may have to do this for both wires.You will have to drive the vehicle with the wires on. If it solves the problem, you will have to run wire.

    There's no metal in the pan. tested the solenoids and they were good.

      If you have that many miles, it is time to take the transmission out and do a complete overhaul on the unit. If you do it yourself, make sure you pay attention to the spacer plate. A check ball likes to oversize the spacer plate holes causing issues.

      the engine has nothing to do with it but spin the main pump called the Torque Converter that in the front of the tranny - between the engine and tranny .. it is like a turbine it pushes the high preasure to the tranny valve body the torque converter as well has many clutches inside of it if the bearing goes in it and the clutch plates will then be loosen and not go into any gears ..meaning replace the 1 part called the torque converter .. glad i helped you out have a nice day!

      you use the same method for this shift solenoid that I am showing in the video. If you changed the solenoids with good ones, then you need to get a wiring diagram and start doing test. you have to make sure that the wiring going from the computer to the solenoids are intact.

      Go to Mitchell prodemand they have a DIY version that you can buy for your vehicle for $20 you can get all the information you ever needed for your vehicle and wiring diagrams for everything.

    I didn't change Shift solenoids Because I end up changing the whole transmission remain Transmission . Cause I had 257000 miles on my last transmission and it wouldasked transmission and it was late shift goin in second and 3rd gear . So I continue to drive it. Next day I know my My truck wouldn't go over 2000 RP m's in the wouldn't go in a second or 3rd year at all I thought it was my transmission that went out completely. So like I said I got to remain transmission And I'm still having these problems. I cannot figure out the problem for nothing I think it's electric problem . But I'm just tired of GM .

    Hey man, I am doing this on my 2000 Silverado right now and I have watched your videos numerous times. I tested my solenoids (1-2 and 2-3 like you said to do) now that I have replaced them and they Ohm and activeate correct with a 9v battery. Not sure what the deal is and why I am getting a P0758 like in your video). Thanks so much you are a great teacher, I agree with everyone else!
    I have an issue though... my PRNDL on the dash doesnt work correctly (P and N dont show up but the rest of the gear indicators do) or is delayed. It seems to be getting the gear indicator from the trans. It is not the NSW as I have replaced it with 3 of them. I found this random article that says it may be a ground. Can you explain or show how I can test this?
    The first post describes the issue and it seems to not be just related to me.

    "The 4l60e transmission pnp switch is not the problem. The issue is a ground or lack thereof. The safety switch uses different combinations of open and closed circuits to tell the dash which gear it is in, and it's done through the four wire (C1) harness. If the safety switch isn't receiving a ground, it will still function normally, but the dash output won't work without engine running. When running, the ECU tells the dash which gear it's in from the internal pressure switches inside transmission. However, if vehicle isn't running but key is on, nothing lights on dash.
    The fix is amazingly simple. On the 7 wire (C2) harness, there is a black/white wire coming off of the D (Google the plug diagram) slot of the harness. If looking at the plug with the four slots on top and the three slots on bottom, it is the top far right slot. Use a ohm tester to check continuity on this wire. If it does not show zero ohms, your safety switch is not grounded. I remedied the issue by simply cutting the black/white wire and splicing a new wire to it and grounding it directly to the bolt that holds the safety switch to the transmission, and it works like a charm!"

      @@thisisyourtransmission yes initially u til it goes into limp mode and the CEL comes on. I have to clear it again for it to shift. Once it gets to 3rd it never gets to 4th and stays in 3rd. I thinkkk I could try 2nd and then 3rd but haven't yet. I can manually do that tho. Up and down... 2 to 3 and 3 to 2

      ​ @TXTRUSTUD it stays in 3rd with the p0758 code, and you already change the solenoids, then you have to look for a wire problem or a computer issue, and that involves looking at a wire diagram and checking opens or shorts to ground or positive, which can also be a tcm malfunction also.

    my 1999 3500 chev van has reverse and I think its 2nd only, it will do around 45mph, I thought if I replaced the shift sylinoied on the outside thinking that will solve the problem but it didn't, is this transmission the same? that it also has sylinoids inside? I am on a retired budget and would greatly appreciate a response... ( lockitup.ts@gmail )

      Let me tell you what I tell people who come into the shop! If you come into the shop for a transmission problem, the transmission does not care about your budget! You either fix it right or don't fix it! Don't call on Jesus either because the owner of the other car in this shop believes in budda, and budda didn't help him and jesus has brought you here too. Both of you are in the same boat, bad transmissions. So suck it up and get tough. Your transmission is not this one. It is a bigger one, a 4l80e. However, it does have solenoids on the inside. You have to drop the pan to get to them then you will see them. They are easy to change once the pan is down.

      Brenda Stone you need to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced. The clutches are not holding to make the shift transition during low speed.
