I was 10 when I saw him in the 2010 world cup. I have to say, this guy made me love Uruguay even though I'm American and my parents are Ivorian. He's probably the best shooter I've ever watched in my life. This guy is truly a legend. Criminally underrated. I'll never forget you Diego.
Same here! 2010 World Cup was my first ever world cup watching when I was like 8, and I asked my dad who that guy with the long blonde hair was after he scored a banger, and he told me he was Diego Forlán, and I'll never forget that name
I'm also American with Mexican Parents, but I'll always support Uruguay in any competition because of Forlán. My dad one day went to Mexico and I begged him to buy me a Uruguay jersey with his name and number on it and he did, he said it was so hard to find it and expensive but to this day it's the best gift I've ever gotten. I love Messi and Suarez and even Neymar, but Forlán will always be my personal favorite and my introduction to Futbol

Same here bro, I was supporting the Brazilian squad (and sadly was very bad on 2010 WC), but DForlan definitely gave me lot of joy. Watched all Uruguay matches and he was absolutely fantastic! There was no one like him. Because of his great WC performance, also bought his shirt and dreamed to be a player like him.

I'm argentinian, but Uruguay was stolen from that cup. The match against Ghana was scandalous, the referee was clearly against Uruguay.
Forlan deserves much more credit for what he has done, another underrated player is Dirk Kuyt because the match would be over and Dirk would still be running all over the pitch.
@Rogue 9 Yes Itotally agree, to date I've yet to see someone like Dirk.
Kuyt was a phenomenal player. Guys like him often don't get enough credit because they don't look elegant. Not that he didn't have decent technique, but didn't move very gracefully and didn't leave the impression of a player who plays naturally, he looked a bit awkward (kinda like Mandzukic). However, many players have this problem and often it's because of how they're built, not because they don't move fluently...they just look a bit "weird". That being said, Kuyt was a tremendous player who perhaps didn't score THAT much, but he often scored important goals and the pressure he put on the defence was massive. Again, comparable to Mandzukic in that way. Always loved watching Kuyt play, the guy always gave his best on the pitch. Another underrated forward is Huntelaar, too bad he didn't find a team in which could play for 10 years or so to leave a legacy, too many transfers.

Forlan was a goddamn cheat code in fifa 11-12 . Best long shot in the game with a 5 star weak foot. You could launch 35+ yard lasers with him from almost anywhere on the field with very little room to work with. I usually played as Uruguay and having Forlan+Suarez+Cavani up front was overpowered as hell in those years.

Difícil que haya un 9 con tantos goles fuera del Área por la posición en la que usualmente se mueven, Forlán era más un "11" en ese sentido, más media punta, con movilidad entonces muchas jugadas le llegaban a sus pies fuera del área
