    Would like to clarify some things:
    - The stuff about 'mob density capacity' discussed at 3:15 is a bedrock mechanic. The rest of the information here is java.
    - The likeliness stuff at 4:05 is incorrect. Mobs do not spawn faster at lower y values - *they spawn faster if the highest block in the x/z column is lower, since the spawn attempt has a greater chance of starting at a useful y level.* This is because, as mentioned, spawn attempts are spread *equally* between the lowest and highest blocks.
    - With pack spawning - the game will attempt further spawn attempts even if the original spawn fails. The number of times it repeats is based on the pack size of the mob, and each of these can spread up to 5 blocks from the last attempt (in x/z). Therefore, packspawns can spread up to packsize*5 from the original position.
    - Regarding spawn qualifications - not all 'opaque' blocks are spawnable, and not all 'transparent' blocks are spawn-proof. (Although, what defines 'opaque', 'solid', and 'transparent' blocks is often different to each person.) For example, mobs can spawn on blocks such as top slabs, slime, and anvils, which are technically transparent (do not block light), and cannot spawn on certain opaque blocks such as bedrock. Another thing, the 2 blocks above where a mob spawns must not be redstone components or liquid.
    Just a few other things to mention:
    - Most mobs which are affected by light level have a higher spawn success if the light level is lower. Ideally you want 0.
    - Each tick, when the game makes spawn attempts, it does 3 per chunk.
    - In 1.16+, the game rechecks the mobcap for every chunk's spawning attempts, so unlike prior versions, you cannot overspawn the cap by much.
    - Mobcap formula is 70*player loaded chunks/render distance^2

    This was a rlly cool vid! I hate to be that person, but I feel I gotta mention 2:29 is not correct since it matters a ton for mob farms and such.
    Depending on the mob, you may need 1.5 or even 3 vertical blocks for the mobs to spawn in. These can be transparent blocks (such as air blocks, vines, torches), but a lot of transparent blocks don't allow mobs to spawn in them (such as glass).
    Some examples for the space needed for various mobs to spawn include Creepers requiring 1.8 blocks, Zombies requiring 2 blocks, and Spiders requiring not just 1.5 vertical blocks to spawn, but also 3x3 opaque blocks on the X/Z axis.

    • @adityashankar9551

      True like for pigman zombie 1.9 blocks or for shulker 2 blocks high and 1 block radius around them I.e. between two Shulkers.

    • @saturnmunchies
      @saturnmunchies 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adityashankar9551 yeah, spawning conditions are very weird depending on the mob. Iron Golems especially, with their larger hit box but only needing a 1x1 block horizontally to spawn meaning they can technically spawn partially in walls and suffocate. Which is not how other larger mobs like Spiders spawn. Very weird. But I like it, makes every farm unique.

    It is very important that the Light level matters a lot.
    The chance for the mob spawn to fail is the Light Level divided by 8, thus at light level 8 and above it is 100%, and 7 and below it is less than that, and the lower the light level the less likely it fails.

  • @jonaspaladin1398
    @jonaspaladin1398 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I-the person who cleared up the wiki on spawning most recently as it still had stuff relating to older versions (subchunk rules and stuffs) and even referenced biomes which only exist in bedrock edition- was wrong about the part where its greater than mobcap. To be precise, its if it is greater than 1 less than mobcap. Anyways, I'll point out some issues or information not included:
    1. Fish - they have a despawn sphere of 64 (since 1.16)
    2. I'm not sure but I think mobs can despawn just as soon as they leave the 32 blocks away from the player, just so long as it has been 30 ticks since spawning.
    3. Technically, the game checks if the block beneath follows certain characteristics or is ex. a top slab, soul sand (possible to spawn, but don't meet base requirements.) There's another set for if the mob can't spawn on it, and another check for if its on magma blocks, ect.
    4. The bit on the spawn cycle was unclear - different mobs have the spawns occur at different frequencies, with hostiles spawning every tick, but passives and bats less frequently.
    5. Mob density capacity - never heard of it, never seen it, could possibly exist but I don't think so?
    6. There are 3 packs chosen, some mobs have differing pack spawn attempts dependent on the type of mob which spawns (I put all the data in the wiki), not 12 pack mob spawn attempts within a pack.
    7. Given that a mob would despawn from the circumstances of the despawn sphere, then they won't spawn - but mobs can spawn outside of despawn sphere, specifically passive mobs.
    8. As imtheguy helped point out, the light level for overworld hostile mobs (including within other dimensions and wither skeletons) needs to be 7 or below (not lower than 7) [this includes internal skylight level]
    9. packs have nothing to do with game difficulty except for like phantom spawning

    Unless I missed something big, this video fails to answer an extremely important question: Does expanding the spawn zone (raising the count of spots that meet the spawn condition) increase spawn rates? If yes, are there diminishing returns to expanding the spawn area?
    This is important to know because I'm trying to decide on what size to make my farm. Most tutorials don't seem to mention why they make their farms a certain size and I don't want to over-build or under-build.

    • @mysticat
      @mysticat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you have more areas for things to spawn, then you have more chances for things to spawn. If something is more than 128 blocks away from you, nothing will ever spawn

    And if you hate a certain mob... find a room in your world you can sacrifice
    Nametag them for most mobs (some will be able to wear armour...I'd give them a leather helmet because they are the mob that burns in sunlight) Put the mobs in that room, get the mobs to that number... and suddenly you have "banned" the mobs
    If you want them back, you can always go back and kill them...best mob to do this with would be phantoms (you are sacrificing repairing elytra though...so at that point you NEED mending enchantments... but that's not even up for conversation because everyone who would have an elytra would have unbreaking and mending on it)

    The main differences between Bedrock and java is that Java spawns mobs from the bottom of the world up, while on bedrock they spawn top to bottom. If you want to make a really efficient mob farm on bedrock, build it as high as you can. I am not so sure about how mob density works on bedrock though to take that into account.

    4:07 please tell how different is spawning mobs in high and low Y-coordinate

    • @jamessmith-tr3em
      @jamessmith-tr3em 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A bit late, but basically the game always try to spawn at a specific y value between the lowest and the highest y value. This means the lower the spawning ground the less block the game has to count

    Does the circle include height? If I’m 30 blocks above a block wil a mob be able to spawn on that block?

  • @ayceod
    @ayceod 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was this video made before the introduction of simulation distance..? It is my understanding that simulation distance changes the eligible spawn distance, for hostile mobs at least.. Not sure about other types of mobs.

    I made a wither skeleton farm in 1.16 and I need to know if it would be benificial to remove all of the blocks above the farm. I have already spawn proofed everywhere. You said something about how the game picks a random y level for each spawn attempt up to the highest block. I suppose that if a remove all the blocks above my farm and then put a 1 block thick roof above the farm, all spawn attempts would be in or below my farm, as opposed to being above it. Also, great video btw!

      Spawn are only within a 128 bubble, but the Nether always has Bedrock on top so you can’t affect it

    • @thomasross5514
      @thomasross5514 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      would removing the bedrock then make my farm more efficient

    • @eastonarnett2050
      @eastonarnett2050 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasross5514 no, it wouldn't because bedrock is transparent. No mobs can spawn on it

    Is the spawning region around a player also vertical? Basically, is it a sphere around the player or a cylinder from bedrock to the height limit? Also, great video!

    I'm not sure if this was explained in the video, but anyway... Me and my friend have a bedrock world with a skeleton mab farm. We want to let the skeletons stack up while we afk. Is there any way to change to amount of mobs that occupy one block?

    Weird- 70 mobs? I've got a three-level gold farm suspended at Y246 and space below nether ceiling cleared out beyond 128 blocks from AFK spot. I explicitly see 3 groups of four zombie pigmen spawn and then there is the aggro-inducing zpigman trapped. So I only ever see a maximum of 13 mobs in my farm. Render distance is at 21 chunks.

    How about for farms that use Portals? Is the Mob Cap affected even if mobs are taken to the Nether?

    • @haki3422
      @haki3422 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No if a mob is taken to the nether it does not contribute towards the mob cap

    does anyone know how we can make a spawn location for entities?
    Like we want an entity to naturally spawn only in desert biome? Do anyone know how to do that help me with that pls

    Are Iron Golems unique? Seems like they spawn much closer than the outside of the 24 bubble? I’m referring to the natural spawn not building one from blocks and carved pumpkins. Thanks!
