    I don't think it was accurate to compare cooked rice with uncooked pasta. The two should either be cooked or uncooked. Conflating the two variables makes the calorie comparison unreliable.

      You need fat. Fat is essential. You have to have healthy fats in your diet. Your going to deplete your body of fat soluble vitamins. Don't listen to these high carb people. Just know that there's no essential carb. Look into the vegan keto diet it's much healthier than the high carb diet.

      Hi both of you I still eat fat and so does she! I just don’t cook with oil. It’s just added stupidness and she was the FIRST I heard it from and then I did a lot of research. I still get enough fats in from avocado, nuts, and just random stuff with fat in it! If like bread or sauces or eating out have oil in it I don’t worry. I just mean cooking it’s not needed

    • @Shannonsense
      @Shannonsense 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      catlover09 hi please read my comment below I never said I don’t eat any fat :) I wouldn’t say I’m fully high carb vegan but not vegan keto I just eat whole plant based foods and enough to satisfy me and the occasional vegan junk food because I’m human. I’ve lost 30 lbs in a year since going vegan (I was 20 lbs over weight and could not get it off) and I’ve gained a lot of muscle, hair, nails, skin improved and much more energy. Thanks for being concerned though

      I think it's different for every person, I need coconut oil because of my candida so I cook my veggies with coconut oil or steam them but for the sake of variety, eating only raw or steamed veggies can get boring. I can't eat starchy vegetables, legumes, fruits, grains and carbs so I'm left with only green veggies and I have to make them in different ways to avoid getting bored. I eat a lot of nuts and avocado though.

    What about the fact that a lot of calorie dense foods (mainly fats) help satiety not just during the meal but AFTER too? Like sure I might be fuller eating two platefuls of steamed broccoli than one plate broccoli oven fried in oil, but for how long will that keep me satisfied? I've started eating a higher fat amount and noticed WONDERS in how much it has helped me to not snack constantly because HCLF doesn't make my satiation sustainable. Of course there might be people (such as you perhaps) who benefit more from a lower fat diet, but I get the feeling that you're trying to promote HCLF as if it's the BEST tool for weight loss for everyone. I was HCLF vegan for two months until about three weeks ago, and all it did was make me constantly hungry (even though I was eating enough calories), bloated and miserable. I now feel way more in tune with my body, I feel that I can actually trust my hunger cues and not always have to make sure that I have snacks on hand because I might get sudden hunger pangs from eating mainly calorie diluted food.

    • @HighCarbHannah
      @HighCarbHannah  6 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      yes i talked about that at the end.

    • @JzlG2894
      @JzlG2894 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      That's not entirely the point. Hannah is often talking about the mass of food itself. I take it you are eating the regular amount of calories, however your portion sizes would have to be less than a HCLF persons. If eating smaller calorie dense meals suits you then go right ahead, but a lot of people are satiated when they feel physical "fullness". The ability to consume more for the less calories is great for digestion, cleaning out the intestinal tract and allowing you to feel lighter and more energetic because your body isnt weighed down by trying to breakdown and digest heavy fats. If the serving sizes are too large simply halve them and eat 6 meals a day instead of such a bulk amount of food 3 times a day etc. Oil is absolutely terrible for you, and I don't see how you can stay within regular calories eating bulk healthy fats like nuts and avocado etc. You mention that you've only been doing this recently since giving up your HCLF trial. It may be possible that your body has kicked into starvation mode and will be storing those fats very quickly. This can only lead to heavy weight gain if you were ever to break this "diet". 💕🌻

    • @scarywolfie1212
      @scarywolfie1212 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I find the foods mentioned are a lot more filling than the counterpart. For example when I snack on nuts I often go out of control and over eat on them. Avocadoes being less calorie dense is better to eat more of than nuts I believe. With avocados I would probably eat them in combination with another meal and that would be pretty satisfying.
      I also love fats (and I don't think Hannah said cut them all out) but it is true it is easy to go overboard with them sometimes.

    • @Ana-ls8rh
      @Ana-ls8rh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I prefer fat to carb, to be honest. I have to eat pounds of food to feel satiated when I'm eating low fat. And just one hour later, I feel hungry again. But when I eat high fat, I get full with a smaller portion, and it keeps me full for hours and hours.

      @hannis535 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I used to have issues with that too, but I feel less bloated with a few simple things that I pay attention to:
      - I like to have raw greens with my meals. It helps the digestion!
      - I avoid things that are hard to digest! For me that can be foods with gluten/ refined foods like pasta and bread, but also certain veggies eaten raw. I prefer to steam/ roast my broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, etc. I find it easier to digest!
      - Legumes can get you bloated if your gut isn't used to them. If you eat certain things daily/regularly, your digestive tract is going to get used to it and bloating will cease.
      - Legumes from cans/ jarred have more starch then if you soak and cook your own. The last one prevents bloating.
      - For breakfast I often only have a massive portion of fruit (enough to fill me up), which is the easiest thing to digest whatsoever and most likely won't get my bloated at all! (only apples have pectin which might get you bloated)

      Chrystal Thornton I used to struggle with this too. I have to be careful with how many beans/legumes I have. Cruciferous veggies too like cabbage, CAULIFLOWER (ugh lol) and broccoli. I have very small amounts of those. Opt for more watery veggies like zukes. And don’t eat fruit with anything, ever. Also eat a bowl of spinach with your meals. For some reason, spinach helps. It’s crazy. Lots of water! Now I just have the problem of pooping all the damn time hahaha. Hope that’s helpful. Took me a long time to figure all of that out!

    I really appreciate you talking about the reality of loosing weight, not idealising a way of eating irrationally. Some people think just by going vegan you will automatically and magically loose weight, but in the end it is actually very simple and calculatable.

    Hi Hannah. I've been a vegan for a little over one year and love the lifestyle. Your video today on eating more and weighing less was a real eye opener. I've been trying to lose weight ever since I started eating vegan, but have never lost an ounce. Never gained, never lost. Now I see what I'm doing wrong and, starting tonight, I'll follow your suggestion and keep everyone here up on how I'm doing. Thank you Hannah. I love your channel and can't wait to see more. Please show us how to cook without oil. Give your kitties and doggies a pat on the back for me. From a happier fellow Tucsonan.

    I'm really glad that you mentioned that the "calories in versus calories out" thing doesn't have to be starvation. The problem with that method is because it sounds like it is promoting starvation, like you literally have to force your body to burn more calories and take in fewer which might mean going hungry. And I used to think that myself. But it really is just focusing on the quality of your food and eating less calorie dense foods. I'm really glad you cleared that up for me :)

      I got this idea from forks over knives and I love it! Mashed avocado with a splash of lime juice. Then you fold the greens in. It doesn't pour like most salad dressings of course, so feels very different when making the salad. But once it's mixed in, it coats the salad leaves and adds moisture and flavor which is what ya need in a salad dressing. And it's delicious! I'm guessing because of the fat from the avocado it still feels like a typical salad dressing.

      I've made a really nice dressing using silken tofu, lemon juice, a bit of dijon mustard, and your herb of choice. Blend it up in the Nutribullet, and you have have a pourable dressing (add a bit of water or more lemon juice), or leave it thicker to use as dip or mayonnaise replacement in something like a potato salad. It's really delicious and has the same texture as a cream based dressing without the calories!

    Great video! However, don't forget about the fact that the right type of oil and nuts are really healthy for you in moderate amounts. Also, rice is very bad for the environment as it needs a lot of water while growing. Do not forget that there are many other factors that play a great role while choosing food than calories.
