Don’t rush, savour it, it’s too long until it isn’t and you can only read it for the first time once.
Thank you for this! I appreciate the thought, I’m actually taking a break at the moment but I’m looking forward to reading it arc by arc!
@@TheNerdLoungeur going to love this series there are 1 or 2 arcs down the line that dont quite reach normal one piece standards namely long ring long land and thriller bark but its mostly because normal one piece standards usually means peak fiction 99% of the time and just being ok at its lowest points
Ok awesome! I’ve heard about the “bad” arcs - but I’m committed so I’m sure it’ll be fine!
@@TheNerdLoungedon’t worry about it. there’s not actually any “bad” arcs. there’s just ones not as good as others. but honestly ignore what people say online as certain one piece fans love to exaggerate how “bad” something is for stupid reasons. you’ll love it if you just go at your own pace and blind.
Reading Thriller Bark was way better than watching it. Pretty much changed my whole perspective on it.@@MR-SINISTER76
What's great about One Piece is that it's still one continuous series, no branches, no spinoff. I think people see the sheer size of the series, and conflate it with the "Where do I start" syndrome you'd usually get from hugely popular franchises like Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear, Star Trek, etc.
With One Piece, just start at Chapter 1, and go at your rhythm. Of course there is added stuff that reframes the early arcs, but it's not in a self-contained prequel you have to decide whether or not to watch first; all those revelations are already placed organically in one single series for maximum narrative impact!
This is such an interesting take on it!
You’re 100% right, with series like Doctor Who you get that feeling. Even JJK which I’ve been enjoying has a prequel volume / movie that i didn’t know when to watch - One Piece seems so much “simpler” in that sense.
The most difficult part of One Piece is the fact that you have to remember details over a large span of time. My husband regularly forgets details and I am like, of, yeah, this is the thing that was said and also this is the reveal we later learned that recontextualized it and also this is the timeline of events in exact order for the flashbacks. My ADHD brain doesn't allow me to store real history, but fictional history has a spot right at the front, right next to my rollsdex of what would it be like to have intimate relationships with various anime/fictional characters. Every arc I do in fact discuss this.
@@bboops23Yeah
@@TheNerdLoungeThe only real exception is Chapter 0, and the corresponding Episode 0, who technically can be seen as prequels, but they are only really an appetizer for a movie (Strong World), and tons if fanservice (the non-sexy kind), as you see, what established characters did before the series starts. There is no additional information hidden, no big revelation, it's just an intro to the movie villain.
@@jackstamper893 oh yeah that sounds pretty cool - and defo not in a “required reading” kind of way!
ONE OF US ONE OF US! All aboard the ship folks, we got another one! Another journey begins!

New NAKAMA!!!!!!!
@@TheNerdLoungeone piece TLDR . Those first 30 episodes one piece is a good anime. 300 episodes later it became the G.O.A.T of anime
The only thing that kept me from watching one piece was the art style. Growing up watching Naruto and Bleach, I was used to the epic edgy shonen art style with cool action scenes. As I grew older, I finished watching/reading so much anime and manga (I was addicted) and had nothing else to read, then I saw the behemoth that is One Piece. I was actually looking for something long to read and it looked like One Piece was super popular so I gave the manga a try because I am much more forgiving with weird character designs and ugly drawings on paper than on anime. Happy to say, I finished 800 chapters in 3 weeks (finished the anime in 3 months after) and I actually came to love the goofy endearing expressive artstyle -- it was never ugly in the first place,... the animated style was just really outdated for my taste. The story was beyond what I expected and the characters were not like in any other mangas I've read. IN FACT, the writing style really reminded me of books and novels that a shonen style story. It reminded me of a few YA and classic children's books I've read as a child (children's books and fairytales that have deeper meanings, not the barinless ones) and it was SOOOOOOO nostalgic and endearing and I fell in love because I felt like a kid again ;DD And I love how unpredictable it is, like, VERY unpredictable, so I had so much fun!
This is such an awesome comment - it’s amazing to hear your story! I actually agree with many of your points - especially the similarities between One Piece and classic written stories - I actually noticed this myself. Oda has clearly taken inspiration from many places, but also seems to be VERY talented at his craft!
Thank you for watching, and I just checked out your channel - I love the art! Gave you a follow!
"luffy is an unstoppable force" oh boy... I'll see you in 300 more chapters
Not sure what this means - but no spoilers!
WELCOME TO THE CREW!
Yarrrrrr!
YYEESS thank you for making me happy 😭
I am always here to serve! ;)
Also, did you see your cameo appearance?
ONE OF US ONE OF US!!! Its a manga that imo I am sure you know but just prepare to have ya mind blown like a million times. Its crazy I just read 105 when it came out and it was hands down better than anything I read for months and months. For it to do that and still surprise me is insane. So if you even liked the beginning a smidge it will be a series you will love and cherish.
Sloth I am SO EXCITED! I’ve put it down for now, but I can’t wait to get back into it!
The funny thing is, I would consider the chapters in volume 105 the "worst" part of the last 2 years. It's so freaking good, but the following 45 chapters are even better. To a point, where imo it's the best stretch in manga history and has the best chapter in manga history.
Also I am surprised to see that the US only now did get volume 105, wow. That's late. How come? Their online chapters on Viz are up to date...
@@benediktmathes2528 it often just takes longer to get the runs in print over in the West
@@TheNerdLoungeYeah, but that seems very late.
The last chapter of 105 came out Nov 7th 2022 and the volume itself released March 3rd 2023 in Japan. And btw Sep 26th 2023 here in Germany.
Whatever, I guess as long as it comes out at some point... 😛
@@benediktmathes2528 you answered the question I was about to google - thank you... well, it also took Carlsen what - 6? years to get on the simulpub train
Just got back into One piece after the live action dropped, made me want to pick it back up after years of neglecting to continue it, i re-read thriller bark and now I’m currently all caught up, and I couldn’t be sadder. Enjoy the ride, and don’t worry about catching up
So many people have said don’t rush, so I’m not going to! Glad to know you got back into it!
The manga only takes around 60 to 120 hours to read, depending on reading tempo. I think that puts it into perspective, many modern videogames need as long or even longer.
I'm never going to read it that fast! @@TheOriginalDogLP
When you start One Piece there are too many chapters, but when you catch up there aren't enough.
I love this! I’ve heard the same thing from a few people - all good things must come to an end….
@@TheNerdLounge When I see a "The End" end card in stead of the "To Be Continued" one, I will cry.
Finally!!
Enjoy the journey dude❤
Thank you Clash!
As someone who is caught up this will be a wild ride
That’s what I’m hoping for!
pls remember to check out the cover page, sometimes it contains a story of beside character that oda cant draw it in the manga, its canon and that character will show up later, u will need it to understand why they are there, there are also story about buggy after hes defeated until he met alvida, u may miss this
I read through that whole mini thing with Buggy so don’t worry i won’t miss it!
Not all characters show up later though. A lot are just a story of the aftermath.

@@tobynarco_4955 will it spoil anything looking their real life counterparts up?
@@TheNerdLounge no. Its more about theory crafting along the read. Oda always puts his own twist on things. But sometimes you can find some charactertraits or similaritys that maybe lead you in the right direction. Its a treasure hunt after all 😁
My journey into One Piece: Live action, then anime, and now I have just started the manga.
Oh wow that’s an interesting order!!

Welcome aboard
Thanks!
Been watching One Piece since 2007. I started the manga a bit later, like 1 or 2 years after. It really is an amazing journey. It's crazy to think Oda still has it. The current manga arc has been one of the best in the entire series, which just goes to show how great of an artist he is.
It’s awesome hearing from the long time fans! And yeah, that is crazy that his quality is still up there so far through the series.
i am convinced that if someone like the comedy and luffy HE WILL LOVE ONE PIECE, you are on a crazy journey bro that is one hella of a crazy story, buckle up
I'm so excited to start this journey!
You won't regret it brother...am telling you welcome to crew 🤗🤗🤗❤️
Thanks man! Glad to be here!
Started reading it a few years back, it was the Arlong Park arc that really cemented me to read further. When reading manga, I always read a volume a day, but One Piece was such a fantastic read that I sometimes end up reading more than one volume sometimes. It's one of my favourite Jump series as a result, though the one thing going against it is the art, at least in modern times, I love the cleaner, cartoony art style of the previous volumes but now some pieces sometimes look hard to read. Not sure why that's the case but it has a great story to make up for it.
Fair enough! Arlong Park was definitely a highlight for me so far! I’ve also heard the art complaint, but it seems the story more than makes up for it!
BIG HUGE recommendation to you as a content creator: if you decide to share your journey online, you WILL get people who want to spoil the story and plot twists and emotional moments to you. Even nondirect comments like "oh boy, if you think that X was bad, you will like when you get to Y" is a spoiler! And that's disregarding the direct spoiler comments aka "Dumbledore dies".
So if you truly want to enjoy the story of One Piece, because you only get to experience that ONCE, either get some really active moderators who know which comments to delete for you, or avoid reading comments altogether.
One Piece is once in a lifetime experience and it is truly the best type of media I have ever read and watched and I started watching the anime 15 years ago and reading the manga weekly 14 years ago so I caught up pretty quickly and avoided ALL spoilers which increased the enjoyment of the story to me.
The amount of worldbuilding, themes and references it has is so incredible and the amount of deep-dives and analysis you can do about the story and its contents is incredibly large. There is a reason why we have hundreds of One Piece youtubers creating different elaborate theories all the time because the story allows for it. And of course the characters which you will grow so fond of, will eventually feel like a secondary family.
Thank you for all the effort you put into this comment! It’s always an issue being a creator and getting spoiled - happens to me all the time.
I might look into Moderators as I want to continue sharing this journey - especially after talking to all of you in the comments!
The love for this series is immense and I cannot wait to read more!

Nice one you'll get a massive sense of achievement once you've caught up, has its ups and downs but all in all i really enjoyed it. Some volumes are hard to get so i ended up getting the box set of Amazon for around £85 each which is a pretty good price
Yeah I’m so excited to get into it! I think I’ll read all my physicals and then maybe continue on the SJ app to save money…
@TheNerdLounge yeah i read it all on the app but then had to buy the box set so i felt like i had something to show for the weeks and weeks and week of reading i had to do to catch up 😂
I get you! I’ve got about 50 volumes so I’ll read those first and see where I’m feeling!
If you don't want to spend much money you can also try the 3 in 1 volumes. Not the best paper quality but worth it for it's money. You chose such an amazing manga so have fun with it ❤

Yeeeeeeaaaa One Piece is pretty special. Nothing else out there quite like it. I will say to be careful with spoilers. I love the OP community, but there are a few bad eggs who wanna watch the world burn.
Hope you decide to do more videos on it in the future, us fans love to laugh, cheer, and cry along with you.
And my dude…you’re going to cry. Just so you know, this series will hurt you. And it’s my favorite thing about it. Nothing’s ever made me emotional like One Piece. Pages of a book have never made me outright sob…until One Piece. Thinking back on moments has never made me choke up…until One Piece. Oda knows how to evoke emotion.
Fair winds nakama! Hope to see you again soon!
Already well aware of the spoiler danger - will try my best!
I will have a video after each “Saga” I think, but maybe some more content in between. I can’t wait to experience it and talking to all of you has been great!
great video but the ad that started at 3min has such a different volume and energy was very jarring from the relaxing video. Do not rush One Piece and let the adventure take you away! Keep it up.

My god!!1 It makes me emotional see more and more people get into One Piece.
People can get into One Piece thanks to openings and anime, the live action, and OF COURSE, the main media, MANGA
I love how dedicated One Piece fans are!
@@TheNerdLounge we are, and hopefully you can consider one yourself in the future. We are always wanting everyone around us to experience One Piece; but we have to learn how not to annoy them
I strongly advise you to keep your hands off the anime. It’s never as quirky when it should be really quirky, it’s never as fast paced and frantic when it should be frantic, it’s never as grim when it should be grim. It censors some deep character moments (Zeff in the anime does not eat his own leg, for example), destroys the pacing and adds tons of meaningless filler.
The manga on the other hand is practically flawless. Your biggest challenge won’t be the sheer length of the story but the vast amount of characters and events happening.
I‘ve been reading One Piece in real time for over 23 years (manga started in Germany in early 2001) and have to remember things ever since. It’s totally possible that some things get more context or explanation even after DECADES of them being first mentioned.
Enjoy your ride as part of the real life Strawhat Crew and don’t rush it. You’ll catch up before the journey is finished anyways. 👍
Oh! And stay clear of spoilers at all costs!! 🤞
That’s absolutely insane that you’ve been reading for that long! I’m not gonna check out the anime yet - manga is definitely my preferred medium.
My spoiler radar is gonna have to be UP. I’ve actually not had TOO much spoiled yet (I know about the Gears for example) so hopefully I’m going in as blind as possible!
@TheNerdLounge: Good luck with that. 😅
Looking forward to accompanying you on this journey! 👍

Oh damn you smashed through those episodes! I watch anime so slowly, could never watch One Piece. Are you reading from the beginning or just reading from where the anime is up to?
@@TheNerdLounge I'll be starting with Egghead island which is also the current anime arc. It helps that One piece is somehow no commitment by having so many episodes I didn't fear running out till last week. My husband and I have been told our pace is "biblical" and "unhealthy." I think those people are just cowards who fear our commitment to what was essentially a 5 month long bit because one of my DnD players told me his mentor was based on Gold Rogers so I said, okay, I'll do some research and then went to watch all of One Piece.
