Working at McDonald's! 1989

  • IF YOU LOVED THIS VIDEO. YOU WILL LOVE MY CHANNEL! I have TONS of old family videos from 80s and 90s!
I had this job in 1989! What McDonald's was like in the 80's.
I worked at McDonalds back in 1989. I used to do 10:1 or 4:1 (hamburgers or quarter pounders). I cooked chicken nuggets and fillet O fish as well. I remember I used to get PISSED when restaurant is almost closing, then a SHIT LOAD of customers come in at the last minute! OH OF COURSE the busiest times there. Where we can't seem to make enough burgers for everybody..SHIT I hated that. And it's funny cause many employees particularly the youngsters, would LET OUT our frustration of the SUPER BUSY moments. AND I MEAN SUPER SUPER busy by reusing buns, cheese, patties etc after dropping on the floor! I did not usually do that. Even though I was a KID then.
I worked here for almost a year. Then I quit. Because I fell for this gimmick. And ad I came across to. The ad promising I can make $300 a week working at home assembling products (making normally $75 a week here). So I let the manager know, I will be moving to the "work at home" job, assembling products. Only to learn (just after quitting) of the deadly mistake I made. The assembling products job WAS A GIMMICK! DAMN, (You know, young kids believe in everything, ME). Quitting was a BAD mistake. Now, I'm cut from income.
To THIS day, it is a MEMORY! I really regret quitting the McDonalds job.

Back then they used an actual grill where they had to physically flip their patties until done. Nowadays it's on a button press grill where you just throw the meat on the grill, press a red button, a clamp comes down and it cooks all on it's own within a minute. No need to flip or anything.

Around this time is when I was working at McDonald's too, my first job at 16. Seeing the closing takes me back when I worked there. I was a sophomore in high school. Worked until 1 or 2am and still got up at 5am for school! That was dedication! I lasted 9 months! Depending on the closing manager, we would be able to take home left over food. And occasionally grabbing a chicken mcnugget and eating it was common practice in our McDonald's! That was until I saw a guy push a roach into the oil that used to fry the mcnuggets, chicken patties and filet o fish! Yup, no more! And funny how at the beginning of the video the guy grabs the raw hamburger patties and then proceeds to assemble the Big Mac! A little cross contamination never hurt anybody! Lol, love it! ♡

It's great you were allowed to film. The managers i had at my McDonald's would have been pissed off if any of us did that.
McDonald's was my first job back in my senior year of high school. 2009! I worked Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the back of house (BOH). The pay sucked in comparison to what you were expected to do but no job is easy. haha. I can still remember the smell of the grease from the deep fryers and the sound of the grills as they beep after they've cooked the beef patties.
It always pissed me off how even though back area had a lot to do we were always expected to fill the sundae machine with shake mix. Even when we were pumped with orders.
Thanks for sharing this video Gilbert, it brought back a lot of memories.
P.S. Do you ever look back and wonder what became of the people you worked with? How their lives ended up? I do.

Joel Villarreal No they don’t except for the quarter pounders or unless the customer asks for the food to be fresh I worked In the one in El Paso by Coronado high school the one in Georgia twice in two different Mcdonalds and most recently in las cruces in which I finally quit after 10 months the McDs in cruceswasn’t so bad compared to thee others but still had its moments but yeah the good thing about mcds nowadays is they went back to the basics of how they sold it back then by selling a limited menu and not all that extra shit like the all day breakfast and the stupid salads because of the corona Virus Ooh yeah shoutout to Village inn at crossroads in El Paso Tx 2012-2017 the times I worked there where allot of good memories and some bad I was the dishwasher there I’m pretty sure u remember me I keep bumping into you in these videos comments

I worked at a McDonald's in Las Vegas way back in 1984/85 as a 16-year-old, probably about the same age as some of the guys here. Now these guys look like babies to me. 😆If I recall correctly, we had one of, if not THE first double window drive through. I was there when they added the second window. Also, the McDLT was in its early release; so new that we had to, by hand, place sticker labels on the foam lids as the containers were not printed yet.

Working at a McDonald's was hard work. I worked at one inside of a Walmart. All the animals eating there always made it a mess, much like a pig sty. Its a lot of work for a little fiat currency. Basically a slave to the system.
