Chris's joke at the end went right over Rob's head! 🤣
Just in time, you’ve saved me from watching any more of the England game.😂
Italia 90 was the high water mark mate, at least in our lifetime
Watching the boys at work is far more entertaining than watching any football game. Far .It's far more interesting.
1-1 mate!
1-2!
See you guys in the final 🇧🇪 🏴
I’m 59 years old and pulled and put cars back together for a big chunk of my life, I love watching these videos but looking at this job makes my anxiety go through the roof, I’m wondering if anyone else has anxiety and possibly watching this makes them feel the same way, either way I wish you all the best getting it back on the road.
You bet! I do all the things these brilliant guys do but in the end always find I have to go to someone who actually knows what they are doing! Needless to say all my money constantly disappears! 😂
I could watch you Guy's work all day. And after that job I am so glad I have retired. Lol. You Guy's definitely earned a Thumbs up.
Looks like Chris will have a nice V8 engine block to make into a table for the office 😎 got to take a positive out of a negative!
Another great video boys, love how Chris always delivers his comments in a calm way, very thoughtful before opening his mouth, that is not a dig at Rob incident, but Chris is just on top of this game.
Bad luck guys unfortunately the gamble didn’t pay off. Look forward to seeing the route forward on this rebuild.
GOOD luck with this one !!! Good job u got deep pockets!!
What I really like about Rob and Chris is that it doesn't matter what the brand is they always have a solution to the problem
They had a tune on this engine, put out a lot more power and destroyed it. Hi revs too much from the supercharger and boom!!
That’s quite the mess! I’m shocked at the motor being that bad considering it had less than 40,000 on it! No wonder it’s owners let it get repossessed!
My SVR did an engine had to have it replaced under warranty. Head gasket went they did a repair and it failed again and warped the head.
I was told the Ghost immobiliser can be set up in two ways, gearbox lockout, where the engine starts but it cuts out when the car is put into gear, the Ghost in my wifes Freelander 2 does this. Engine lockout where the engine won't crank, which is how my F-Pace SVR is set up.
When did it really go wrong for Range Rovers?
They were great vehicles back in the 70's and 80s, and were easily fixed, i personally wouldn't buy one, I've only ever bought Mitsubishi Shogun's and currently driving a 2011 LWB model, 166k in the clock and doesn't miss a beat, everything works and starts first time, every time.
As near as it’s possible to be certain, that insanely over complex car will, within 20 years, be knives and forks, while the delightful HA Viva, in the background, will still be soldiering on.
My 78 mini has a 4 fuse electrical system and single SU carb and still gets me to Lidl to do my shopping :) (Unlike this Range Rover that has been a Range Rover too long)
Oh for the days when a short engine could be sourced for a few hundred notes. Or a completely different one dropped in
with modified mounts and bell housing adapter plates. Have we really progressed?
Fair play to Rob and Chris for taking on the big projects not just the easy ones 🎉
Someone knew this was being repossessed and absolutely rallied it until it blew, that's my theory anyway!!
Hi Rob and Chris, quick diagnosis, can get straight onto finding an engine and overcoming the ghost alarm. I'm sure there will be a profit in it still, but a lot of hard work to go into it yet.. Alex.
Range Rovers have always had a bad reputation. Nice to see it carries on.
PLEASE PUT PART NUMBERS ON YOUR VIDEOS!!! ITS SOMETIMES A NIGHTMARE TRYING TO FIND THE FIRST ONE IN A SERIES!! THANKS
You took a big risk, when you pulled the spark plugs and saw water you knew it would be bad, but maybe not this bad, maybe a cracked head or gasket. Even a used engine will be expensive and risky considering the awful design flaws.
Hello from Ireland guys. Love the video far better than the match.
Just discovered your channel. Fascinating stuff guys. How the hell do you do all this without any reference to a Haynes workshop manual?😂😂😂😂
WOW guys great content what a shame impressive carnage too - looking forward to you sourcing an engine and getting this beauty up and running.
that is the mentality of a range rover driver, temp gauge in the red, keep your foot down till it stops... then blame someone else, + stop paying the finance...
never seen a block melt away from a liner that badly, it must of been literally glowing red hot
just order an engine from the docks, there is loads going through there every day, fresh from someone's drive in london... keep it up chaps
Maybe it’s different programming but I had the ghost on my M140 & it never cranked until I put the code in.
Isn’t it great when you’re working outside and the sun shines on your back, and fifty resolutions is are all that I’ve never kept in the last sixty years 🏴👍🏻
I have watched you guys since the beggining and you're channel is blowing up like that engine, you put in the graft and you reap the rewards!
I've got a ghost on my range rover and it will not crank over at all until you put code in
Love it when it's a more practical, good old-fashioned engineering diagnosis. Well done, lads
Years ago I saw an engine failure in a Commer truck. At first viewing it looked as though it had a perfect original casting galley between two cylinders. You have to realise that cylinders should note have a channel like that, so perfectly had the passage been carved out. Once spotted it was obvious and never to be missed again. As for why the Range Rover cylinder block let go like that, perhaps over over stressing, or weak original casting, but does it matter now? It is toast and fit only for recycling.
That is so sad that someone could run an engine and not knowing it's running hot! Good luck with the rest of your work on it.
Driven out of water.
Driven to the point of destruction.
O M G .
One big maintenance nightmare!!!!!!
I do wonder do we need cars to get so much more complicated - why do I need a white line warning that grabs the steering off of me or a touch screen panel to turn on/off everything. Make things simpler !
Loved the 'thankyou very much ' Tommy cooper impression chris😊
Might the engine have suffered hydraulic lock? Looks that way to me: damage across multiple cylinders. Someone driven too fast through floods?
you could get those cylinders repaired then new sleeves put in, this might be a flaw on the cooling system where not enough coolant gets around the cylinders, you would have to upgrade the cooling system or it will happen again i bet
Well, fellas, you weren't expecting that, were you? Cannot understand why these massively expensive Landies are built so poorly. Honestly rather pay less for a decent ride that does what it's meant to do. Good luck sourcing a replacement engine - dig deep!
Oh well, at least you've got a nice anchor for that boat of yours...good luck sorting it one way or another fellas 👍👍
I would bet money on that having a poor remap way to much power and standard internals and bang
Theres your new brew table guys , modern day destructible engines , not built to last and cost a packet, JLR must know about this fault , great team work as always 👏 👍
I've just "Liked" and "Subscribed" to your channel guys - keep up the good work 👍👍
Haven’t watched your video yet as the football is on but probably better than watching England play 😂😂
Switch the poxy football off and turn Rob and Chris back on. They are far more interesting.
You missed the best part of the game then 😀
Your video was brilliant it was all Old school but it was a very good watch. I will be watching all the other videos.
Thanks
Hey guys my Land Rover doesn’t crank with the ghost fitted. It just turns off the ignition. So I think they have different ways of immobilising the vehicle. BMWs I have fitted start up and then cut out when put in gear
Seemed a daunting job to do but I guess it's ultimately "just" another engine for Rob and Chris 💪👏
Can't wait for the next episode 👌
Ouch….. I’m sure you bought right and expected the worse so hopefully still a nice margin in it. Great video though👍
I was 'hedging' towards the head gasket being blown as were you. I never expected the block to be 'toast'. That must have got very hot to fail like that I would suggest. As we always say 'it is what it is' but it was worth stripping it down to get to see the whole problem. A new engine it is then or a brand new secondhand one? A great video Rob and Chris and very interesting it was too. 👍👍
Love how you guys work through things methodically
There's diffrent types of ghost. Ive a mechanic myself and a few cars I've been in won't start without the code
Great videos lads. Honest, informative and a great watch. Keep up the good work fellas.
Hells bells, I've never seen an engine do that before!
Well in boys , good luck on your search for an engine.
Wow, that must have got very hot... but open deck blocks are generally pretty weak.
Please make sure you show us what has failed in the engine/heads that has caused the water ingress.
I had a brand new one at work that I had to inventory for parts and scrap😢 been looking at a few recently- definitely my favourite car so hopefully have one this year🤞Great to see you guys again- enjoy your videos 😊
Doesn't the Ghost 'fail' depending on how it is set up? The one I have allows the engine to crank and start but then almost immediately cuts out showing a fault on the dash.
the engineer who installed my Ghost 2 said it looked just like BMW wiring, almost impossible to find. Mine also lets the engine run but without the code it shuts off if ang gear is selected.
That JLR V8 is a pretty solid engine. Being a finance repo it smells to me that something has been done on purpose to cook the engine.
I can see your perspective
But the coolant leak under the supercharger makes me think it was just bad luck and an owner who keeps on driving till it stops.
A footballer did that with his nearly new AMG after a stone did their radiator.
Engine was cooked and Merc refused the Warranty repair
Namz Boost rebuilt it last year
May I firstly say how much I enjoy all your projects and then go on to be cheeky and ask "how many of your customers ask for advice after purchasing your rebuilds?" I say "advice" as it seems unlikely that with the care you take with the actual work and the lengths you go to to make sure every detail of the history and the spares used there would be little cause for actual complaints. I must add , I can only watch you when my wife is available as she refuses to miss any episode. Until recently we have only been able to watch the actual video but not had access to the comments section so you won't have seen any comments from us before.
How does Rob keep his shorts so clean when thrutching around like this. My shorts get dirty just by me going in my garage.
Turn it into a coffee table, and then go for a conversational V8 and remove the SVR badges, try and break even. 👍
It may have a early version of the ghost immobiliser as mine would not even crank over without the code all I got was the ignition lights
Wow, that is unbelievable how on earth has that happened? I’ve never seen anything like that. Looks very expensive!! Excellent video!
😢😢😢 oh noooo.... but at least you found the source of the Ghost water feature 😅
Been driven through water and hydrolocked when the engine was running imo. Blown out those skinny cylinder castings as it was the weakest point.
Wow, full on - that's some hydraulic failure! Someone's carried on thrashing it after the head gasket's gone. Deffo worth changing though. Don't forget new chain tensioners!
Good afternoon Rob and Chris, a very interesting video, I wonder why this has happened to the engine? Good luck with this project. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Yourself and Chris are brave to take that challenge on
Ohhh, thats confirmed why the engine was not able to start!! A short engine IF those cylinder heads are alright?? Look forward to the next video on this project. Best wises from Lincolnshire.
Can someone please explain to me, what is the attraction to owning a Range Rover, my Land Cruiser Amazon has never gone wrong in 300,000 miles ????
perception of luxury and wealth, reality is unreliable and waste of money 😂
The Range Rovers are very stylish, whereas the Toyota's are boring.
Comfort, luxury and, in my case, reliability. I even had the P38 version, much hated for lack of reliability, but if properly looked after it is fine. Mine was 25 when I sold it, and still running well. BUT, they are complicated and easily destroyed by idiots.
@@geoffariesyeah they look very stylish when they are sat at the side of the road with their bonnet up , or when they are draining your bank account!!
@@Bob-v6y2v maybe where you live the owners can't afford to maintain them. I haven't seen a broken down Range Rover, at the side of the road, for years, in the South. People who buy secondhand exotic cars should make sure that they can afford to maintain them, same applies to Ferrari's, Bentleys etc etc.
probably lost coolant through that water/oil cooler between the banks and got cooked and warped, they refilled it with coolant that leaked into cylinders and turned it over and it went pop. bet the rods are bent as well.
bugger me you guys sure are keen to tackle jobs like this but love watching, cheers from perth
Hopefully you find an engine for a reasonable price. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
You are getting closer to the type video I like ,plums deep into an engine ….wish it was a R8
Another thing Rob
I just been through all this with my rullsize 5.0 supercharged
The front and rear x over pipes you MUST change for upgraded ally version plus change thermostat housing and water pump
They are major failures on this engine , I did rear x over and then front went , then thermostat
Just do them all whilst you got it in bits mate
Please tell us more!!! ?? Did your engine have this issue, and did overheating cause so much damage?
Ouch. I've never seen anything like that before. I've never been keen on those open deck heads tbh. Way too delicate. The Focus ST is the same and they regularly suffer with blown head gaskets.
Chris could make a nice coffee table out of that for the office 😂
Bloody hell, iv never seen that happen before
Unlucky guys, here's to the next video 🤞🏼
Can't help but wonder if the previous owner deliberately sabotaged it prior to the repo...
Nice car Rob i bet you can't afford it and I don't blame not showing it just in case someone watch your video and could steal the car or remove your mobiliser good work Rob and Chris
they dont seem to be stopping them getting nicked though .
I think you found the ghost immobilizer, it called a toast engine. But good news is with this model you can remove the floor plan and install the Flintstone adapter 😂😂😂😂
Absolutely knackered that engine. Hopefully, you will be able to salvage and sell the heads and crank, you'll have it sorted soon
Time to contact those guys who bought the dealers collection of flood damaged RR's from Derby.
Was it ASM?
Talk to QP Online. They are the LR engine rebuild specialists.
I'm trying to understand how pressure can split the block but not the bore liners. The combustion pressures are within the space between the pistons and cylinder head, the liners or gasket should go first, why has the block split, please educate me, I need to know😮
Guys . I've just had a ghost installed on mine. And if you do not put the correct code in it won't start or crank. It just flashing the dash and cuts off.
You can have it fitted so it’s will crank out cut out on engaging Drive. The fitter should offer this option.
@robholland1937 was unaware that this was the case . Mine just flickers on the dash then goes black and nothing happen .
Look on copart Rob , for an Xfr. or xkr Jaguar any of them are 5.0 super charged !!!!
I don't envy You guys working on that. Complex.
It's all so complicated now!! I know you will sort it you always do! Rather that than an E.V. "Thanks"👍
The motor doctors are at it again .👍👍👍
Wonder if it's had the wrong coolant/plain water in its coolant system at some time - might explain the corrosion where the cylinder walls cracked. I'd be a bit iffy about a secondhand engine - SVR one might be an upgraded version of the standard engine which a supercharger might blow up? Also price up the front bumper bits - unique to SVR so rare/expensive?
You guys have the best job in the world.
You need to get call “ GHOST BUSTERS”. 🤣🤣
I’d still be interested in buying as is, looking at 10,000 minimum for a used engine that’s comes with a invoice
Excellent video and brilliant work as always!!
Looking forward to seeing the next video in the series.
Hope all is well and hope you have a great weekend, take care of yourselves
Nasty - is it because the water leaked from that hose and the driver just drove on with overheating and flashing warning lights? Interesting video thanks guys - good luck with the project. Look forward to the next instalment.....
Stupidly nearly bought one the other day at a garage, diesel one, 24999, salesman was giving it the old o so reliable you won’t have any problems upselling the warranty, loved the car, whilst was waiting for business manager scrolled through notifications saw the first video read through some of the comments, and then googled and thought sod that, the look on the salesman face in the space of five mins of having a deal to no deal 😂, in the end got a 2019 X5 diesel,
