"other churches have an abuse problem too" is perhaps the worst possible defense in this situation for so many reasons

If you think this happens only in one particular denomination, you are utterly delusional. Period.

Thank you for covering this difficult subject: Mormon Church failure to report SA to local law enforcement agencies which would protect the victim, instead of the church reputation.

Church leaders knew my dad was cheating on my mom for years and were "counseling" him through it but he only got excommunicated when she found out, after he had been with hundreds of women and she contracted three really horrible diseases from him. In that moment they declared him a sex addict and he told my mom it was her duty to stand by him as a victim of his addiction.

If he knew he had this “addiction,” he shouldn’t have gotten married. The commandment is to “cleave unto your wife and none other.” If he knew he couldn’t do that, he should have been honest and stayed single.

They need to a documentary on the Church in Finland, especially in the smaller towns. Oh my goodness! Women are "something for them to assign to a man" and they try to get a women to give up all her possessions. Women who do not go along with the Finnish Mormon Handmaiden's tale then somehow get in constant trouble with Finnish taxes, utility bills, and face identity theft, constant vandalism to their car, and a spread of falsehoods to the members across Finland so one cannot escape the "four families" that are the predominant members of the church in Finland.

This is crazy but not at all shocking. The LDS church and all religious organisations, to be fair, should be mandated reporters. Also required background checks on those who work with minors. If the church wants internal discipline proceedings as Nemo suggests, that can happen after legal actions are done.

ALL religious agents/local leaders must be made Required Reporters to LLEs (local law enforcement) at the time of confession by abuser and/or the abused reports or seeks help.

I walked away from my cheating husband and got treated like garbage by my church, while they opened their arms to his mistress and treated him like a king! Btw, she was married also, yet they allowed them to be married in the church after our divorces were final.

I stopped going to church in Denmark because of how weird the men were to a single a women. It was obvious I was a lesser being there "to make them happy". They assigned one of the mentally ill single men to me to be a helper. Not wanting to owe him anything I paid him for his work, so he weirdly started more projects instead of finishing the two I thought he would do. He started to act as if he owned the place and that said we would get married and do things his way. I became afraid, couldn't get him to leave, etc. He did lots of nutty things. When I finally got to tell a friend who told the bishop, the bishop said the man should be allowed back to finish his work and did not own me any of my money back, but that he should be allowed to finish the projects - when it is obvious he was just going to take more things apart and leave the house in more disarray.
Then another one was going to do a project with me, he had no formal education, but reminded me he was the priesthood. He pushed me to do all sorts of writing for the project. I was incredibly sick at the time, but did it, wanting to make friends with the Danish saints. Well after he got what he needed, he said he would now continue the project without me, but he owned all my work and ideas.
I can only imagine what happens to the women who spend more than a week with these men.

The irony is that by trying to avoid lawsuits thr church made themselves vulnerable to lawsuits. If they reported abuse immediately, many of these lawsuits wouldn't have a case, or even would exist due to abuse ceasing.

From my translated reading of the law in Denmark, all citizens are mandated reporters of any abuse that children may be exposed to within what is called their circle of trust. The first layer of that circle is the family. So, any abuse to or by anyone in the family must be reported, and there is no exemption for church officials. That explains why he only pleaded to the occurrences before the church became aware of it, in an effort to avoid the church officials from being charged. My opinion is the church pressured him and maybe her not to implicate the church.

I went from "inactive" to "ex" when i told my bishop of my husbands abuse and he told me i needed to repent and obey my husband. Abuse isn't just covered up, it's justified/encouraged. I went inactive for being ostracized when a former stake president bragged about beating his children to put the fear of god in them and to physically force them to go to seminary even if they didnt want to, and taught that as what parents need to do in a class. I spoke up about how wrong that was, and was told by others i was "apostate" because i spoke against a "leader" of the church. So the mormon church teaches to beat women and children. not ok.

Other churches don't claim to be the one true church on the earth with the one prophet who speaks with God. THAT belief makes it mandatory that all of its Priesthood holders be absolutely above reproach. Of course now we know that that is an absolute nonsense belief that anyone with the Priesthood is above reproach, they are no better or worse than any other person with or without the Priesthood.

This is a disgusting video and frankly should be absolutely ashamed that this content is being used to gain money and notoriety.
The fact that actually the teachings and practices of the church is explicitly against such abhorrent acts and that churches are trying to stop and prevent this by teaching true principles of the gospel of Christ - just makes this all the more ridiculous that the evil acts of abusers is being pinned on the church of Jesus Christ.
As someone who works with people who have been abused, these are the acts of evil and is very much the opposite of what the church and the gospel of Christ teaches and warns against.
Whilst on the other side, MAPs (‘minor attracted persons’ -the actually abusers themselves) have an 2SLGBTQIA+ flag and are proud of it.
You can do much good nemo! - at the core you can see you are someone wanting to do good and can do this by using your energy and talent to fight against the actual abusers and real enemy.

    • @msemmahale4608
      @msemmahale4608 44 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

Martin - I am appalled that you are permitted to work with abuse survivors. Someone (you) who is horribly misinformed and biased, has no place in the psychology/sociology/therapy/counseling space.
You wrongly conflate LGBTQIA+ organizations with a pedophile promoting one - just because they (MAPs) have a flag that mimics another group’s (LGBTQIA+) flag, you assert MAPs is accepted by the LGBTQIA+ organizations?!! That’s utter nonsense. No queer organization acknowledges or accepts MAPs/minor attracted persons.
You are completely ignorant about what your own church’s protocol is for dealing with sexual abuse (and other forms of abuse). The hotline that bishops are instructed to use goes to their lawyers at Kirton and McConkie. The main concern in these phone calls is determining if the state (in the USA) is a mandatory reporting state for ecclesiastical leaders. If it is not, then the bishop is not only encouraged to NOT report but told that if they do report, the perpetrator can sue them (the Bishop) personally (as well as the church). Faced with potential financial ruin from being held liable for divulging privileged information (penitent privilege) Bishops don’t report. THIS IS EVIL. It is EVIL to protect the reputation and financial assets of the Mormon Church over the victims (many of whom are children). I’ll give you a homework assignment - how many years more was a child (MJ) in Bisbee, AZ, abused after the predator/father (Paul Adams) confessed to his bishop?
