Top 10 greatest R and R ever? Really or probably? Please! Tell me how you came to that conclusion! Was there some great consensus that you went by? Whenever someone throws that “top ten” ranking out there I just have to think then wonder wtf did that come from? Top 10 greatest? Damn that is lofty status! The Beatles have 10 better. Zep, stones, the who,EJ,any Clapton collaboration …… and.. also… in addition… don’t forget these guys…. Not to mention one or two of any of them in addition to all the others out there! Great song, I love it, my band covered it the crowd always loved it! Is it even Rod Stewart’s best? Top 10? Top 25? Top fiddy? Maybe to some but in all reality mez tinx knot!
This song is just the perfect example of a rock and roll band at their best just having a great time. You can hear the fun they're having while they play. Superb stuff 👍👍
Nowadays and I never thought of it I'm 64 but the lyrics are really causing problems with the youngsters. It used to be the lyrics for causing problems with the old people.

I should point out that the guitarist, Ronnie Wood, is the guitarist for The Rolling Stones and the drummer, Kenney Jones, became The Who’s drummer after Keith Moon died. Add Rod Stewart on vocals and, well, it’s a master set of musicians 🤘
Let’s not forget the unforgettable Ronnie Lane on bass (a musician’s musician and personality, to boot), as well as Ian McClagan ticklin’ them ivories.
Ronnie Wood has officially been The New Guy in the Stones since 1975. Kenny Jones got the gig replacing Keith Moon because he was the only one who refused to audition.
Back in the day....he was known as "Rod the Mod". He was one of the biggest Horn Dogs in Rock for a long time. His unique raspy voice and attitude made him the quintessential rock star of the late 60s to mid 70s.
The Faces used to trash hotel rooms and it got so bad they were banned from chains in the US. So, on one tour they booked in as Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac went on tour 6 months later and were completely confused as to why they were banned
“Maggie May” gets all the love, but this is probably my favorite Rod Stewart performance. And you nailed it; everyone in the band just LOVES playing this.
Hi guys, Brian here, oh yea, in the early part of his career, Rod Stewart was a great singer & songwriter, and this was a great example, but, if you want to hear a song even better, take a listen to the title track of his best solo album, EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY, Stay with me is good, but this is a step up from that !! IT'S A BANGER !!
@@joekuul8769 hi Joe, Brian here, yep, u could take most of the songs from "Every picture" and they would be straight up bangers ! Especially "mandolin wind" something about that song just gets under my skin, stays in my head for days! For months I've been trying to get the guys to react to songs from a few of my favourite albums but no luck, two in particular are "fire and water" by Free, and "Argus" by Wishbone Ash, you ever heard them? Steve Marriott was so powerful a talent it took two great musicians to replace him. Pretty sure you guys did "30 Days In The Hole" from Humble Pie. That was Marriott singing.
Afterglow and The Universal are two of my favorites. The best 60’s band to get no real traction in the U.S.. Zep fans should check out the end their version of You Need Love.
Once there was the SMALLFACES with Steve Marriott. Steve left the band to form HUMBLE PIE and ROD STEWART replaced him and they shortened the name to FACES.
I agree “I’m Losing You” is probably Rod’s biggest banger and should be heard. But, in my opinion, recorded one year earlier, Rare Earths version is way cooler. Grittier, more intense and twice as long.

Actually Robert Plant called Rod Stewart the quintessential rock singer. Fun fact. Rod Stewart Freddie Mercury and Elton John almost formed a band together called: Hair Nose and Teeth. True story.
Rock royalty on this recording. In addition to Rod on vocals, you have Ron Wood on guitar, soon afterwards picked up by the Rolling Stones, and the man chosen to replace Keith Moon in The Who upon Keith's passing, Mr. Kenny Jones. Listen to these guys killing I'm Losing You, and you'll immediately understand why Kenny was the only drummer who could have replaced Keith Moon❤️
So glad you enjoyed guys, another one that leaves you wanting more!! And that piano, Rod's sexy raspy vocals and beyond. "Hey what's ur name again?" HAH!! "Every Picture Tells a Story", Mandolin Wind", so many gems my friends, very cool! Yes such a fun song and he and the band have a great time on stage. Merch with Andy & Alex sayings, yessss please!
Would like to request our guys review a classic Thanksgiving Day song... "Alice's Restauraunt Massecre" by Arlo Guthrie This one is played each Thanksgiving by classic rock stations. It's a tradition to me and just don't feel like Thanksgiving without hearing it. Would be great if they could react to it either the day before, or a special video on Tganksgiving. From 1967, it's a bout Alice (remember Alice?) and a "Thanksgiving meal that just couldn't be beat!" that ends up being drafted by the Army. It's a bit long, but ŕeally funny. Please chime in to get some love for this classic!!!!
a Fili and some joe I’ll second this request. This song was a staple for a long time. It’s cultural impact has faded a bit but it’s still a fun romp. Arlo Guthrie is a really interesting figure around this time. Also in the vein of holiday songs. There’s a lot of rock n roll Christmas songs. It would be nice to do some of those in December. Father Christmas by the Kinks and Step into Christmas by Elton John are two that immediately come to mind.
You guys should try their rendition of I'm Losing You and play it back to back with the original by The Temptations. We'd be curious to hear you compare Rid Stewart and David Ruffin. Try something a little different!!
I saw the Faces at the time this album was just out. They were at a local Dance Hall here in England, the audience was maybe 700 people. What a great night that band had so much fun on stage, it was one of those nights I will remember until my dying day. If there is a Heaven I really hope it is based on 1972!
This song has always given me the feeling like this band was jamming out somewhere and some guy happens along and just starts singing along to It. Fantastic Jam. Or Banger as you guys say.
This song is wicked fun to play. I played in a pretty lame cover band for a few years and this always brought down the house and was our favorite song to play too.
I'm a fan of "Id Like to Change the World," too, but it's my understanding Alvin Lee didn't care for it. That said, if you're looking for "bangers," can you go wrong w/ Ten Years After's "I'm Going Home"?
Hot Legs and Born Loose...epic bangers and great groove. The guitar solo on Hot Legs is just simply awesome. One of the best 'less is more' guitar solos ever.
That is correct! Only thing is that “Stay With Me” wasn’t as big a hit as “Maggie May”. Back then I was 11-12 years old, and I was only listening to Top 40 radio at the time...
@@andyandalex Yes. Stewart had been in the Jeff Beck Group 1968-69 with Ron Wood. They both quit and Stewart signed a solo deal. Wood got asked by the Small Faces to replace singer/guitarist Steve Mariott (who had left to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton). Wood said he would gladly join as guitarist but did not think he could cut it as a lead singer and suggested they ask Stewart. Stewart agreed but as he was already under contract as a solo artist, he would go back and forth for the next few years from solo albums to Faces albums until the band broke up.
Let me put in a good word for the late Ronnie Lane, whose solo work is fantastic. He played great bass on this record and wrote great songs too. Ian McLagan on keys played with the Stones, Dylan, so many more. What a group.
So glad you got to this. Now it's time for some early Robert Palmer-"Sailin shoes-Hey Julia-Sneaking Sally through the alley". So good it is a crime no one has touched this.
Great Rock AND Roll. Rod and his mates at their loosest/tightest best. Great comments, especially all the band members having equal parts in making the song and the bit about the alien.
This jam is ON FIRE. :D "[I Know] I'm Losing You" would be a great next track. (Faces also does a great cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed", but you deffo want to listen to the original - *and* McCartney's live version - first.) ~~~ Dark, Muddy Camera - goin' strong! :D
The faces for a while were the biggest band in the world. Sell out everywhere. Now you know why. Big fan saw them loads of times in London. Great just great live band. Proper rock and roll
You need some sort of quote sheet listing all of Alex's metaphors for what songs sound like. i.e. Flirting With Disaster compared to a drunk uncle at a bonfire lighting off fireworks with a banjo....
Stray cats. Blondie. Doors. Lou Reed. Pretenders don't get me wrong or brass in pocket...hell, do both. You guys need to have double header Wednesday, 2 songs same artist
Every Picture Tells a Story (1971) is Rod Stewarts 3rd solo album after An Old Raincoat will never let you Down (1969) and Gasoline Alley (1970). I like Rod's earlier stuff before he became a ballad singer and The Faces were great (as were The Small Faces).
You should check Rod's collaboration with Jeff Beck from '68, the album Truth, the song "Shapes of Things". You should also check out Small Faces, featuring Steve Marriott on vocals, who you already heard sing "30 Days in the Hole". I recommend the song "Afterglow (of your Love)".
One thing that you guys do better than anyone else in the reaction industry is that while you talk during the song, you never talk over the song. All of your in song comments are so concise that they fall entirely within the song's structure such that nothing is missed.
Anybody else gone for “Bad’n’ruin” yet? As featured in The Sopranos. Great song, great performance, interesting structure - fascinating to see someone reacting to it for the first time.
Definitely a banger. Stewart's great vocals, Ronnie Wood's awesome guitar, Ian McLaghan's ethereal keyboards, not to mention Ronnie Lane's bass and Kenny Wood's drums. A really awesome band. You should really check out their cover of I Know I'm Losing You off the same album, another hyper-banger. Keep on rocking men!

"I'm Losing You" for a Rod banger, then "Forever Young" to shift gears.
You guys got to check out his stuff with Jeff Beck! "I Ain't Superstitious" off the Beck "Truth" album, is spectacular.
Maybe I’m Amazed...Faces do a great version of Paul McCartney’s composition.
Good but the live McCartney version...pure music platinum.
Also Jimi Hendrix's "Angel".
Their live BBC performance is the best, I like it better than Macca
So glad you enjoyed guys, another one that leaves you wanting more!! And that piano, Rod's sexy raspy vocals and beyond. "Hey what's ur name again?" HAH!! "Every Picture Tells a Story", Mandolin Wind", so many gems my friends, very cool! Yes such a fun song and he and the band have a great time on stage. Merch with Andy & Alex sayings, yessss please!
Would like to request our guys review a classic Thanksgiving Day song...
"Alice's Restauraunt Massecre" by Arlo Guthrie
This one is played each Thanksgiving by classic rock stations.
Yes they have to do that song.
My local radio station plays it every Thanksgiving at noon.
"You can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant"
Agreed. If they don't do it, we'll send them to sit on the Group W Bench!
@@jasonremy1627 And everyone moved away from em on the bench there......
Lol!!
With the 8x10 glossy color photographs with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back!
Rod vocals, Ronnie Wood guitar, Ronnie Lane bass, Kenny Jones drums, Ian McLagan keys.
That was Ron Woods on guitar, he eventually replaced Mick Taylor in the Stones. Rod Stewart sang with the Jeff Beck Group for a bit as well.
When Stewart was singing with Beck, Woody was the bass player.
@Rodzilla not a lot of Mick Taylors around... Don't think Rory Gallagher would've worked as a third wheel either.
@Rodzilla not on heroin? How'd Keith keep the gig?.. more like willing to work for Mick and Keith
@Rodzilla Dude, I wasn't there.. I swear.
@Rodzilla ... But that's how you get an album like exile; 30 great two minute songs.
'I'm Losing You' - Stewart's best vocal performance ever and a total rock jam.
"Every Picture tells a story" - gotta hear it.
The ultimate party band. Faces influenced so many bands. Met Ronnie and Ian during Ronnie's solo tour.
You guys should try their rendition of I'm Losing You and play it back to back with the original by The Temptations. We'd be curious to hear you compare Rid Stewart and David Ruffin. Try something a little different!!
Seen Rod twice in Vegas at Caesars's Palace ... once when he was 66 years old and once when he was 72 ... he sounded even better when he was 72.
I saw the Faces at the time this album was just out. They were at a local Dance Hall here in England, the audience was maybe 700 people. What a great night that band had so much fun on stage, it was one of those nights I will remember until my dying day. If there is a Heaven I really hope it is based on 1972!
Unquestionably, the 70's were the BEST times for ALL genres of music!!!
Check out Little River Band! Glenn Frey of the Eagles refers to them as the best singing band in the world!
Yes please!
You have to be the most persistent viewer Andy and Alex have. You've written this in pretty much every video, right? Good luck!
"Lonesome Loser"!!!!
Which will they do first... LRB or Ten Years After? Even I would vote for LRB.... Such a GREAT & DEEP catalog of hits..... right there with Supertramp
The first song I ever heard by them is still my favorite - It's a Long Way There.
I'm going to "Stay with" recommending "I'd Love to Change the World" by Ten Years After
Love Ten Years After. “ I’d love to change the world” is a great song and still relevant in 2020.
Agreed. That song has some absolutely STUNNING guitar. Really amazing stuff.
I'm a fan of "Id Like to Change the World," too, but it's my understanding Alvin Lee didn't care for it. That said, if you're looking for "bangers," can you go wrong w/ Ten Years After's "I'm Going Home"?
The Woodstock version of, "I'm Going Home" is amazing. Alvin Lee at this best I think.. Peace, Old Rocker
Anything Ten years after
Hot Legs and Born Loose...epic bangers and great groove. The guitar solo on Hot Legs is just simply awesome. One of the best 'less is more' guitar solos ever.
Stewart was running his solo career simultaneously with his tenure with Faces. Stay With Me was a hit a few months after Maggie May.
@Harold Skinner
WHATTT!!
That is correct! Only thing is that “Stay With Me” wasn’t as big a hit as “Maggie May”. Back then I was 11-12 years old, and I was only listening to Top 40 radio at the time...
@@andyandalex It's what led to their breakup. They thought Stewart was saving all of his best material for his solo albums.
@@andyandalex Neil Young was doing the same thing with CSN&Y.
I also love his work with Pete Townshend.
@@susanaltman5134 On that album with Pete and Ronnie,there's a very cool banger called My Baby Gives It Away.
@@susanaltman5134 One of my favorite albums. Clapton's dobro playing on Lane's song "April Fool" is one of his most beautiful moments.
So glad you got to this. Now it's time for some early Robert Palmer-"Sailin shoes-Hey Julia-Sneaking Sally through the alley". So good it is a crime no one has touched this.
YES! ROBERT PALMER!!!!
OMG yes
Count me in!!
This was one of my first experiences of Sir Rod back in the '60s. He just went up from here!
Great Rock AND Roll. Rod and his mates at their loosest/tightest best. Great comments, especially all the band members having equal parts in making the song and the bit about the alien.
This jam is ON FIRE. :D
"[I Know] I'm Losing You" would be a great next track. (Faces also does a great cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed", but you deffo want to listen to the original - *and* McCartney's live version - first.)
~~~
Dark, Muddy Camera - goin' strong! :D
Every Picture Tells a Story would be a next great track from Rod the Mod
Facts
In the top 5 best rock songs ever in my opinion Great lyrics great Guitars great Drum it has it all !
For me, this song more than any other puts me in an exact place in time and reflects the 70s machismo, swagger and attitude.
The faces for a while were the biggest band in the world. Sell out everywhere. Now you know why. Big fan saw them loads of times in London. Great just great live band. Proper rock and roll
You need some sort of quote sheet listing all of Alex's metaphors for what songs sound like. i.e. Flirting With Disaster compared to a drunk uncle at a bonfire lighting off fireworks with a banjo....
All of Andy's are centered around driving. Who doesn't want to be going 100 down the freeway listening to Highway Star? Um...no one.
Superb choice, boys, I was waiting a long time for "Stay With Me." You nailed it perfectly... a totally fun banger.
Sit down! get up-- get out🤭🎸🤩🎤Sing it bro.." just don't be here in the morning when I wake up"🎤
Stray cats. Blondie. Doors. Lou Reed. Pretenders don't get me wrong or brass in pocket...hell, do both. You guys need to have double header Wednesday, 2 songs same artist
every picture tells a story or mandolin wind from his 1st solo - same album as maggie may.
Every Picture Tells a Story (1971) is Rod Stewarts 3rd solo album after An Old Raincoat will never let you Down (1969) and Gasoline Alley (1970). I like Rod's earlier stuff before he became a ballad singer and The Faces were great (as were The Small Faces).
Yes beautiful
Saw them at their peak, and these guys had more fun on stage than any band I've ever seen.
You should check Rod's collaboration with Jeff Beck from '68, the album Truth, the song "Shapes of Things". You should also check out Small Faces, featuring Steve Marriott on vocals, who you already heard sing "30 Days in the Hole". I recommend the song "Afterglow (of your Love)".
One thing that you guys do better than anyone else in the reaction industry is that while you talk during the song, you never talk over the song. All of your in song comments are so concise that they fall entirely within the song's structure such that nothing is missed.
Call me a Boomer all you want. We have the GREATEST music.
Proud to be a Boomer!!
Same here! Boomers unite!
Me too.
Boomers be boomin'.
Making out in the woods while this song was playing during a high school party...just one good memory!
EVERY PICTURE A STORY - The drums are so killer, the singing is beyond anything you've heard so far. One of the albums every rocker must own.
The drumming is insanely good
Rod Stewart can also sing tender ballads.”Mandolin Wind” will give you the feels.
Definitely.
Also the live MTV unplugged version of Have I Told You Lately. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I also like his rendition of "If Loving You is Wrong, I Don't Wanna Be Right." Soulful.
One of my favourites and Every Picture Tells a Story is just a blinder of an album.
Good Shout
Anybody else gone for “Bad’n’ruin” yet? As featured in The Sopranos. Great song, great performance, interesting structure - fascinating to see someone reacting to it for the first time.
Definitely a banger. Stewart's great vocals, Ronnie Wood's awesome guitar, Ian McLaghan's ethereal keyboards, not to mention Ronnie Lane's bass and Kenny Wood's drums. A really awesome band. You should really check out their cover of I Know I'm Losing You off the same album, another hyper-banger. Keep on rocking men!
Ron Wood is and always has been one of the best rhythm guitarists in rock for 50 years, and able to play circles around Keith Richards!
