Scotty, I have a 1996 ford ranger. My ac unit has never blown cold air, all the vent blow hot air on me even when I have them turned off. I need your help, Thank You for your time!
You're a funny guy, Scotty. Best wishes. I reset the door actuators (the computer did) on my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer by removing the fuse that corresponds to the controller/doors, waited a few minutes, turned the ignition on and could hear the doors finding the home position because one side started blowing hot air and the other cold air. It's still working so far.
I tried doing that on my 2006 Honda Accord, but I disconnected the Black Ground wire on my battery, hoping I would get a reset. When connected the battery, the Clock and CD Player would not work, I had to take it to Honda, they had to enter some code but it did not fix the problem. ☹
Thrilled this was up. 05 sierra driver side hot. I pulled the actuator, Planning to re-calibrate Tuesday when i get it, Crossing fingers I fix the issue second choice is the unit so you may have saved me some troubleshooting.. Thank you
often a broken blend door inside the dash does that, a VERY complex fix requiring taking most of the dash apart and often requiring VERY expensive dealer only parts.
To recalibrate, go to the under hood fuse box, unplug the HVAC memory fuse for 1 minute. Plug back in & start engine. Don’t touch heater controls for two minutes while it re-calibrates, shut off & done. The blend door actuators frequently fail. Recalibrate may fix it for a while, but if the actuator sends bad signals to the control head, then it will lose calibration again.
I'm doing it again this saturday. Due to many technical glitches, I removed the first one, it was just too nasty to send out. If all goes well, I'll do it every saturday, and those will be posted after the show and you can watch them anytime then.
Nope, british virgin islands, tortolla. Get your VIN number and call a dealer parts department, they can tell you where the pressure fitting is. Sometimes they even hide them inside fender skirts.
if it's cable, the cable system has broken. they are a pain to replace and the dealers don't even sell em anymore. but you could hook up a coat hanger inside the blower assembly to move it to recirc and back, I've done that in such cases
Cars today are LEGO now they just need a Scotty Kilmer app installed! I applaud your drive to put up with idiotic comments at times and the willingness to help others for FREE! You even answer questions that are off topic. ●●●Thanks for being generous with your time.●●●
Thanks for your video, Scotty. I have '05 Silverado with the same control as in the video. Two days after I saw this, the driver's side AC started blowing hot air. I drove to where I had to go, parked, started it up later and it worked normally. Drove past two days, no issues. Does this indicate to you that the control might be going bad?
I'm not suprised they got rid of them.I've had to fix the lines on my Astro 3 times and once on a S-10 I had. It's one of those deals where it's cheap and easy to fix but sometimes a real bear to locate.
to some extent they do, but having injectors pressure cleaned on the car using pressure equipment works much better, as in my video "how to clean fuel injectors on your car"
Open the hood and see if the compressor is indeed running and spinning on the inside of the clutch. If so , it is running and stuck on. Often bad AC control units do that
could easily be more than one problem. Even if leaking, it would work cold for a while. So you have more than one problem. Of course find the leak, and pressure test the system high and low sides to see what is going wrong, or pay a mechanic to do that.
Great video Scotty, but I do have a question. I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus that is only blowing hot air. Before I bought a new temperature control module, I wanted to know if a bad A/C Compressor have this same symptom. Basically, I want to know how to troubleshoot between A/C Compressor and Temperature Control Module. Thank you for reading and look forward to your response.
if the system has not had refrigerant added to it, the high pressure is the result of an internal problem, not too much refrigerant. so I'd assume internal problem, such as bad expansion valve or clogged condenser
best to put gauges on first, but if you have none, try adding a can of refrigerant. As for check engine light, see my video "what it means when your check engine light is on"
Many thanks! You were bang on with the relay. Swapped it out with the horn relay to test and voila cold air. Now all I gotta do is buy a new relay - thanks for saving me a ton of cash Scotty you rock!
Hey Scotty, I offer you a quick "OLD SCHOOL" tip. My wife blows hot air, so I just drive her to the beauty shop, where she can get hair conditioning, in my 64 Falcon. And so on the way, I have a passenger side airbag, to boot! LOL. All joking aside, I love your show. I am subbed...
There is a dyi calibration too, put the climate control to auto with ign on, turn off then pull the 10 amp hvac fuse under the hood (3 min) re install the fuse and restart the ign.
Gonna try this I have a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD with the 6.0 gasser 4wd fully loaded just like the same interior you have and SAME GAUGE for the ac and heat you have as well. Ac compressor clicks on and off but blows hot as hellllllllll… don’t wanna spend the money on new ac compressor but might have to if this doesn’t do it! BUT gonna try this out first! Thank you!!!
odds are you have more than one problem. First, check the refrigerant level and pray it's just low cause those things are notorious evap leakers. but blowing all the time is another matter, check the blower resistor and the blower switch for problems first.
A more common problem with GM ac units is the vaccum lines crack and leak, then the cold air won't come out of the dash vents anymore but it comes out of the defroster vents or floor vents.
check the refrigerant level, pray some just leaked out.If you like my car help, be sure to watch my live car talk show every saturday morning at 10 AM CST on google events. often bad control unit not turning the driver's side on but turning the passenger on AC. Or a bad controller valve on the driver's side not working. that's where we mechanics use high level scan tools to find out
believe it or not, here in hot, steamy So Fl there aren't that many a/c places to be had, I went to one of the most recommended ones. All they could do was run a by-pass, but now every time I turn on the fan, the a/c comes on automatically, but the idle speed does not increase when the compressor engages that is why I only get decent air when the car is moving, in traffic, it barely cools at all.
Were on Oahu Scotty? Great video. I have a Chevy Traverse 2009 and I can't find the lower pressure line to recharge any info would be appreciated thank you.
I have 2009 Honda Civic Sedan 1.8. I had the same problem like car in video and it was a broken air valve. Fun fact: I also have 1995 Rover 620si and it never had problems with AC and not much overall. While Civic had already 4 AC problems.
I have 2003 GMC envoy . When we got the air was freezing cold but it was winter time so we didn't need it. Now it getting warmer and today I wanted to try the air. It not blowing hot air out. It blowing air like you would get from a box fan in medium . I turn the temp on both sides down to sixty. I done as far as I could go on trying to fool with it. Would I need a new control thing still ? I don't know how much that would cost . I could be turning it on wrong , but I follow what I was told and know .
same subject matter, but different cause, this one being the control head being bad. Of course TONS of things can make ac blow hot, I could make 50 diff vids on the same subject.
hi scotty, thank you for all the helpful videos! i have a honda accord with a bad outer tie rod on the driver's side. should i just replace the passenger side too because i have to get an alignment anyway? do you recommend greasable vs non-greasable parts?
Scotty i have a similar problem. on my 2004 Chevy Tahoe my a/c will start out fine but after you drive for about 10 - 15 minutes the vents on the driver side will blow out hot air while the others blow out cold air. wuts the problem and how can i fix it? any suggestion is greatly appreciated. thanx in advance.
('06 Explorer 4.0) Scotty, My AC is fully charged but my AC clutch is kicking in and out sporadically, even with the AC off. I think it may be my control head too? Relays are fine and so are the High and Low sensors.
could be lots of things, those babies may be old but they use a stupid chrysler original AC design and are super complex to work on. Only a man with a Star tester could analyze it fully.
Or just set to Auto mode. With key forward. Turn off. Take out HVAC 10 amp fuse under hood front of steering wheel. Wait 1-2 mnts. Replace back fuse. Turn key back on. Let it recalibrate itself. After you hear it stop charging actuators. Turn off 30 second's. Start And put in mode you want to use
I offer you a quick "OLD SCHOOL" tip. My wife blows hot air, so I just drive her to the beauty shop, where she can get hair conditioning, in my 64 Falcon. And so on the way, I have a passenger side airbag, to boot!
Hey, we have replaced this part and it works fine, but now the heat doesn't want to work, it is stuck on AC all the time (2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500) Do you think it is the driver side blend door? The rear control works fine for heat, just not the front.
Hi Scotty, I've bought a used 2007 NISSAN Xterra and I found the AC can't blow cool air during hot weather (like above 80 degrees). It works just fine when the outside is not to hot. But when the weather gets hot and the car is in idle I can feel the compressor switch on and off rapidly (about every 10 seconds). I have tried charging it and the gauge jumped up and down like it's been overcharged. Then I discharged it now the gauge shows it is in the green zone, but low level. And sometimes I feel if the car keeps driving it gets better but I'm not sure. I don't have any clues now. Thank you in advance.
Ah, not really, Many places like auto zone have very open ended return policies. Many times if a part doesn't fix it, they take the part back and return your money. The high end scan tool costs thousands and no one loans those babies out, you have to buy them.
I'm thinking my blend door is stuck cause the low side line is ice cold but it's not blowing cold out of the vent . The the digital controls might be causing this issue also. What's your opinion on this

Hi Scotty! I have a 2013 Toyota SUV Highlander. The front airconditioning works fine, but the rear switches and unit now are blowing hot air? Can I fix this myself and how?
Hi Scotty, I have a 2003 Nissan Murano which the engine has jus been replaced with another used one. Is it possible that the "engine harness" is incorrectly connected to something like the control unit or do they even coincide? The shop told me that they were having problems with the harness connections so I'm thinking it stems from that. I had perfectly cold ac before and now it doesn't get cold at all only warm
Hi Scotty, I have a 07 Toyota Camry that the A/C blows hot air. I took my car to Pep boys, they said it was the a/c blend door actuator. Toyota says evaporator unit & a/c blend door actuator. Both charges over $1500. My question to you is away not replacing the evaporator unit and just clean it and just replace the blend door actuator?
nothing, that's a cap from playing ice hockey forty years ago in Canada. As gums recede, the glue now shows and being that old, it's dark. Drive's the wife nuts though, so I suppose I should put a new cap on it. Totally superficial though, it works fine.
Scotty, I have a 2004 Accord that blows hot air out the driver's side center and side vents while blowing cool air on the passanger side vents even if both controls are at the same temp. Got any suggestions on how to fix it myself?
yes, that code is a stinker, and can be more than that too, such as bad fuel pump. I'd start by pressure testing the pump and doing my video "finding engine vacuum leaks with a cigar" "
Hi Scotty, I have a 2005 dodge magnum, I had the AC checked out last summer and all was fine, but this past winter I started using the heater, and now that it's getting warm again I have tried to use the AC a few times, sometimes the AC blows cold and if I turn the knob to heat, it will sometimes keep blowing heat even when I turn temp back to cold...it has just fixed itself before but it's 85 out And blowing hot again😑
hi Scotty I have a 04 Tahoe with the same ac control unit in your video but how would I know if that is actually the problem because mine started blowing hot air recently and I don't know where to start to begin repairing the issue besides the AC control unit. any advice would be greatly appreciated
I think my 94 sable might have a leak in the ac somewhere. Is there a quick fix like the stuff you can put into oil lines that sort of gum up the leak or do i need to actually find and stop the leak myself
Hi Scotty, How about a 2011 GMC Acadia that is blowing hot air. The A/C button just flashes now then turns off. Blend Door Actuators seem to be moving properly. Do I need to take apart the dash change the Evap Core now? Or should I cross my fingers and order the A/C control unit? Thanks!
when it flashes, there is a code stored in the computer, have a pro mechanic with dealer scan tool access those codes. But if you want a guess, control units go bad a lot on those
hi Scotty, I have same problem with my GMC Envoy XUV 2004, hot air from the passenger side and rear. do you think that your way is the only solution?? Please help me brother!
I have a Acura TL typeS 2007, i had the fan on for a while because it was literally blowing cold air so I didn’t have to turn the ac on, then it stop blowing cold air, so I decided to turn on the ac and it’s just blows hot air. I had my brother look and he said I had enough of those refrigerant in it. Could this video help or what do you think it is? Please help answer ASAP so I know what I should do next. Thanks.

Have new control head. Blowing warm. What now
What causes hot air to blow when ac has been recharged and none of the refrigerant is being used?

it's spiced rum from a Hotel on Tortolla, best rum liquer I ever tasted. Shame you can't buy it anywhere but there. They make it inside the hotel
Thrilled this was up. 05 sierra driver side hot. I pulled the actuator, Planning to re-calibrate Tuesday when i get it, Crossing fingers I fix the issue second choice is the unit so you may have saved me some troubleshooting.. Thank you
depends how cold you want it. I live in texas and leave mine at max cool all the time, though my wife always trys to turn it up

on a toyota, either a bad magnetic clutch relay or a bad expansion valve often does t hat. try the relay, just plugs out and in
Scotty Kilmer my AC compressor works again when I wiggle the relay but the relay is not bad. Any ideas? (05 Silverado)
to some extent they do, but having injectors pressure cleaned on the car using pressure equipment works much better, as in my video "how to clean fuel injectors on your car"
Open the hood and see if the compressor is indeed running and spinning on the inside of the clutch. If so , it is running and stuck on. Often bad AC control units do that
often just being low on refrigerant does that, pray it's not a bad control unit or bad actuator inside the dash
Yyyyyeeeeeesssssss, I have been waiting for this video for my truck...finally scotty
NEVER put anything but regular refrigerant in AC systems, many of those miracle fluids cause problems.
I change mine out exactly same part mine air still throws out heat?
could easily be more than one problem.
LOL. All joking aside, I love your show. I am subbed...
ask the question here on the comment section, I don't do inboxes as I get too many and I can't respond there anymore.
There is a dyi calibration too, put the climate control to auto with ign on, turn off then pull the 10 amp hvac fuse under the hood (3 min) re install the fuse and restart the ign.
they just bolt off and on, but you do need a vacuum pump and gauges to fill it back up correctly.
Thank you!!!
so you saw the made in mexico sticker, yep, both the original one and the replacement.
yes, "Using pressure gauges to analyze car AC problems", type that in the search on my scotty kilmer channel search engine opening page.
good idea to change the valve with the compressor. see my video "replacing a bad expansion valve"
often a wearing out compressor does that, check it for wear and make sure it's full of refrigerant using pressure gauges.
yea, on really old GMs, new ones are all electronic and don't use vacuum .
odds are you have more than one problem. First, check the refrigerant level and pray it's just low cause those things are notorious evap leakers. but blowing all the time is another matter, check the blower resistor and the blower switch for problems first.
if just one side, that's often the actuator on that side going bad.
I fix Honda Prelude climate controls all the time! Im currently fixing the AC in my vette though..its way too hot out for no AC!
ac sealers rarely work, put some UV leak dye in and fix the leak when you find it
wsfe
BVI Tortolla looks like an absolutely amazing place(!)--maybe I'll get to visit there one day....

pay you are just low on refrigerant. If not, the ac blend door is stuckin the dash on the driver's side.
often bad control unit not turning the driver's side on but turning the passenger on AC. Or a bad controller valve on the driver's side not working. that's where we mechanics use high level scan tools to find out
Scotty you are a genius

often leaking valve cover gaskets will drip oil on the exhaust, then it burns, check that first.
no, that's often a bad actuator on the driver's side, they go out a lot and do that.
if switch is bad, you buy a new one and then bolt the old one off. Use a big flashlight so you can see what you're doing
Just ordered one. Wish me luck. I can't do another summer in fl without ac
Were on Oahu Scotty? Great video. I have a Chevy Traverse 2009 and I can't find the lower pressure line to recharge any info would be appreciated thank you.
you have a problem under load, tons of things can do that. Pressure test the fuel pump and pray it just needs a new one.
Did you open up the control head, Scotty? It'd be interesting to know what's inside and whether it's an easy fix, like a cold solder joint.
I have 2009 Honda Civic Sedan 1.8. I had the same problem like car in video and it was a broken air valve. Fun fact: I also have 1995 Rover 620si and it never had problems with AC and not much overall. While Civic had already 4 AC problems.

it often is on a Jag.
Hi Scotty. I''ve got a 2002 GMC Yukon 1500 . Can I replace the digital AC control unit by an analog controller with sliders (type 15189436) ? Thanks.
Should I try this even if my compresor is engaging? The refrigerant pressure is fine too, everything is working ok but I have warm air blowing.
That’s a temp actuator gone bad.
yea," be happy you have hands, fins don't work that well. Giant brains, but all we can do is swim around, we can't build anything."
greasable is better, go ahead and do both sides, they don't cost much if you do it yourself
('06 Explorer 4.0) Scotty, My AC is fully charged but my AC clutch is kicking in and out sporadically, even with the AC off. I think it may be my control head too? Relays are fine and so are the High and Low sensors.
you just remove the inner door panel and it all bolts off. Not much working room, but anyone with hand tools can do it.
I enjoy your live video last weekend. It is too bad you have technical problem.

Thank you in advance.
it often will.
Ah, not really, Many places like auto zone have very open ended return policies. Many times if a part doesn't fix it, they take the part back and return your money. The high end scan tool costs thousands and no one loans those babies out, you have to buy them.
Great video scotty.
helpful, and beautiful place in the end of the video, scotty what happen the other day I read you not do more videos or out of the air?
yea, when I'm dead. Used to wear contacts, but they are too much of a pain really.
that's right, too bad you can't get it anywhere except at the hotel. Long way to go for a bottle of rum

I had perfectly cold ac before and now it doesn't get cold at all only warm
so many things can go wrong on an engine swap, but check the wiring first
Hi Scotty, I have a 07 Toyota Camry that the A/C blows hot air. I took my car to Pep boys, they said it was the a/c blend door actuator. Toyota says evaporator unit & a/c blend door actuator. Both charges over $1500. My question to you is away not replacing the evaporator unit and just clean it and just replace the blend door actuator?
if it's not leaking, sure do that, but a leaking evap needs replacing
Scotty Kilmer thank you
nothing, that's a cap from playing ice hockey forty years ago in Canada.
+Phillip Almeraz often that's just being low on refrigerant, pray it's just that
yes, that code is a stinker, and can be more than that too, such as bad fuel pump. I'd start by pressure testing the pump and doing my video "finding engine vacuum leaks with a cigar"

I had this problem on my SEAT Toledo 99', Ive replaced the head unit and POW! - problem solved!
Thanks.
Scotty, as always thank you for your video. Where was that beach/dolphin (I wouldn't want to come back from there!)?
