  • Is your vehicle blowing warm, hot or humid air with the air conditioner on? If so, this video will be perfect for you. The wonderful, delightful and marvelous cool air within my vehicle's AC system decided to stop working. Fortunately recharging the ac in your car is quick, easy and painless.

When an air conditioning system loses its ability to cool properly, it may be necessary to recharge the system with new refrigerant. Recharging the ac in your car replaces lost R-134a refrigerant and oil in within the a/c system. Steps - Start the vehicle and set the air conditioning to MAX setting. Locate the vehicle’s AC compressor for reference, and it’s important to monitor what the AC clutch is doing. When the AC compressor is disengaged, only the outside of the pulley will turn. When it’s engaged, the entire clutch assembly will turn, driving the compressor. Your compressor is designed to not engage at all when the refrigerant pressure or volume is too low. Now LOCATE THE LOW-SIDE SERVICE PORT. This port is typically found on the line connecting the accumulator and compressor. The high side fitting is located between the AC compressor and condenser and is the larger of the two fittings. Consult the service manual to verify the exact location of the low-side service port. If hooking a can of refrigerant with a single hose/gauge to the car, you will use the low side.
*Most 1994 and older vehicles used R12 as the original refrigerant, if the vehicle being serviced is still using R12, it must be evacuated and retrofitted. Mixing R12 and any other refrigerant is illegal. Never use the high-side port to add refrigerant, doing so is very dangerous and could cause harm. You will notice an R12 style fitting right away as the hose screws on to attach and has the look of a tire valve, while an R134A fitting is a larger quick-connect. ALSO - starting in 2013, many vehicles began using 1234YF refrigerant. This refrigerant is NOT compatible with R134A, and should be left to the professional to troubleshoot.
Attach the charging hose to the low-side service port and ensure that you have a secure connection. If the hose does not attach easily you may be using the wrong port. Following the instructions on the refrigerant package, add refrigerant to the system. Monitor the pressure readings constantly while charging the system. If the system was low, your AC compressor clutch will not engage. You should notice that as the low-side pressure reaches approx. 25-30PSI, that the compressor clutch will engage. You may notice the compressor clutch engage and disengage as more refrigerant is added. Eventually, it should stay engaged all the time. It is absolutely important to note here that over-charging the system will cause permanent damage. If you are unsure of the current pressure, or amount of refrigerant in your system, you should seek a professional mechanic near you to address the issue. After the air conditioning system is charged to the proper pressure, remove the charging hose from the low-side service port. After you’ve recharged your air conditioning, the difference should be noticeable immediately. It may be worth checking the pressure once or twice after recharging in case the low refrigerant level was caused by a leak in the system. If you believe there is a leak, get a UV light and some UV dye so you can find the leak. The UV dye will make the hole visible when the UV light is shined onto the A/C components.

Bout where I'm at, bub. 😄 Spent $160 at Valvoline, more or less just to have them run a test w their fancy machine to hopefully tell me if something else was wrong. Wanted to make sure it got done right w me taking my mom to the doctor and taking her to run errands too. Thing is, they can test for leaks (not sure how accurate that may be), but they can't tell if your compressor is shot or if there are any other issues. Wish I would have paid an extra 40 now at a local quick shop now. As they would prob do more extensive testing.

You can check your blend door motor which is usually under your steering wheel, if it gets stuck your air will only blow either hot or cold.

My 2006 acura tl AC is now blowing hot air. I have owned the car since may 2007 and no problems with AC at all until few weeks ago it started blowing hot air a few times and then cold. However past 2 days only hot air.. Do you think this is issue that it needs refrigerant?

The kit I bought said to fill to x amount of pressure depending on the ambient temperature so would I need to recharge when the engine is cool?

Put some PAG oil in system 2oz, they all leak at compressor shaft seal. If you see oil at compressor it leaks out at lowest point this with save it from failing. The compressor will thank you, 2 oz won't hurt, you can buy a walmart 2oz charge can, put in first followed by a squirt of 134A. Or buy PAG oil and pour 2oz into hoses and put 134A in behind it.

Im glad i found this comment as i was looking around for an answer, today i tool the ac clutch and coil off my 2006 odyssey and found some green liquid around it, it doesn’t seem like its leaking or scattering at all just enough around the compressor shaft and bearings, is this something i be worried about or should i just top off the oil as you mentioned?

Did the air conditioning have a leak or do these just need refilling from time to time ... Kind Regards

Depends how old the car is, sometimes the hoses can leak, the condenser can leak, sometimes the compressor too. If you’re not very mechanical I would ask a mechanic to to do a recovery then a vacuum test for a leak or Uv light the hoses and condenser to find a leak.

They want to run a dye test on your compressor: $105 just for that; cost them about $10 and then they'll replace your compressor for over $600 and maybe there's nothing wrong your compressor. Sad the world we live in today. So steal from people and sleep fine. Well they won't when they meet their Maker on judgement day.

Hold the can UPRIGHT, you don't want liquid in the system, you want the gas form.

Its compresses into a liquid wtf r u talking abt lol u have to have liquid refrigerant at the txv for the ac to even get cold.. u cant have gas only cuz it wld be extremely extremely low🤨
