Loneliness can be a killer as much as anything else. I’m close to retirement, living alone. I go to a nearby Starbucks almost every day for coffee - just coffee. The friendship of the baristas improves my spirits and health. It’s my “Cheers” place.
I enjoy my life away from people. My time is mine, my money is mine, my peace is mine. I can do what I want within a tight budget. Yes its gets lonely but my dog is my constant companion.
I think that is really good that you have the motivation to do that, Richard!! Sometimes just having the baristas in the coffee shop as friends is better than having no one.
I heard a saying this week- we don’t stop walking bc we age. We age bc we stop walking. There are good PT vids that are simple in Instagram. My relative who is 94 and keeps doing these is very healthy despite being alone after her husband died. He had diabetes which is something to avoid at all costs. My uncle is 100. WWII South Pacific torpedo survivor, he worked on his small farm and ran heavy equipment for roads. Never drank or smoked or quit early. Watched sweets. Stayed in shape moderately. He’s my hero.
I married my only gf 1983 She kicked me to the curb 1990 Been single and happy ever since. I ride bicycles long distance. Ridden across the USA 4x. Ridden across India and China and Australia and Europe. I’m happy.
Gee! I can't even remember how long I've been on my own. Before winter I make a winter prepare kit and a plan and before summer I make a storm kit with a plan. Italian here, I make my sauce, meatball and sausage and the divide it in freezer bags and it last quite a while. Same with chicken soup for the winter. But I'm getting tired of worrying about the frig, stove, hot water tank, HVAC and getting reputable service tech's so I am putting my townhouse up for sale and going into an apartment complex. Let them have the worries when something goes wrong. At my age now, I want o pay my rent with no worries get my keys and out the door I go! Being on your own over the years you learn you only have you to depend on and in my case with the "so called friends" I HAD (got rid of them) if they saw you were in need all of a sudden they disappear!!!!
Gratitude helps. Always try to have a doable plan. Have a go-bag in case you’re unexpectedly hospitalized. Keep your essential documents in a fire-proof safe. Stay hydrated. Remove trip hazards. Learn how to do the Heimlich maneuver on the back of a dining chair. Resistance bands and kettlebells have been my recent exercise, (I am a boxer, at heart). A good book is essential. A sunny window. Make it your own. Be proud of how far you’ve come, still surviving these crazy times.
Yep, I am 53 years old and I learned long ago that all you have to depend on is you. I became a widow at 20 so my lesson came early. I never fully got over that, suicide. Survivor's guilt is real. You may go on but you never forget.😢
As someone who has been suicidal, I would have never wanted my spouse to feel guilty. It really is a complex thing and a person may not be in their right mind at all (I wasn't) to take such action. It was not your fault. 🌹
I always felt badly for his mother and only brother. 24 is so young to leave this world. His mother dispensed a lot of blame unto me but I never took it to heart, knowing she was grieving. Very difficult time indeed
I'm very sorry for your loss. I can tell you that to get to that point - which I did in the Summer of 2019 - a person almost assuredly absolutely is incapable of rational thought. Severe depression of that depth is HORRENDOUS. If the tree branch the rope around my neck was tied to hadn't broken - I'd be history. It was quite a chilling story. I was unconscious for almost 18 minutes and was found by an elderly gentleman walking his dog. If there's blame - please know it should be on one of the most misunderstood and underserved afflictions of modern age, severe depression, and not you. Best to you.
I'm glad that I was able to take care of my aging father the last years of his life. He passed in 2020 (the virus got him), he was 84. After he died I began reevaluating my life, and decided that dying alone was not something I wanted for myself. I became a "passport bro" and married a lovely woman last year from Uganda. She's 25 years younger than me. I'm content. 😊
Another great video. As a 53 year old, newly single pest control guy here, I agree with everything that you said. I've always tried to stay prepared and have done everything that you said in recent years. It has worked wonderfully for me. The only thing is that, I have worked out daily for 40 years, but skipped leg day for 39 years. I will start leg day today. Thanks.
I appreciate your message. I am turning 70 in less than 3 months. I am by myself and have no family or friends who I can rely on. Also I have a lot of health issues. As for the apocalypse you don't have to be a believer to see the obvious with your own eyes. But one thing you need is to make peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Many husbands buy life insurance for their family in case something happens to them but have neglected to acquire eternal life assurance for themselves. So I offer that. Thank you for your video because I am being challenged to do similar and keep my independence I hope to the end.
Your right about Wednesday. It was on the news that major stores restock their shelves on Wednesday and if you want the most fresh produce that's the day.
As an older man living alone is not bad their are plenty of women that will be your "friend" but don't have to live with her. Men are a valuable commodity in older age!
years ago i could not squat down and get back up, my stomach was bloated and I was gaining 5 lbs a year so my pants did not fit. i got mad at having pants packed away and now the pants I wore were tight and I was not going to spend 600$ on more pants. i got on TH-cam looking for health sites to mend my ailments and found carnivore people. carnivore sounded nuts and went the opposite direction as what most Americans were told was healthy food. i decided to try Carnivore and it worked so fast that I have not stopped. i did not know that my knee pain and stiffness were from inflammation nor that my stomach was inflamed now I do. i can go down and up easily now when I could not do it for 3 years. 68 years old on no meds or supplements BP 106/68 Blood sugar 100. I eat red fatty meat, eggs, and fish. i do still have an addiction to sugar and struggle to not eat it.
I know this sounds unbelievable but over the years I thought I was eating right, not much fat, etc, but I can tell you, I watched a video of this cowboy cook who made "Huevo Ranchero's" and said the cowboys eat this in the morning to keep them going all day and its true, I haven't felt this good and had this much energy in years. I even make them for dinner some nights.

Hard to believe those kerosene heaters are still on the market. They were all the rage during the late seventies when recently deseist Jimmy C. was running the show in America. Every farmers/flea market had a vender peddling those things. Only problem is that heat source is extremely dirty and methodically depletes the oxygen out of the house. While more expensive to operate those electric ceramic radiant heaters are safer and infinitely better in terms of maintaining INDOOR air quality. A word to o the wise is sufficient. ♨️ 👀. -- 👏
Not a fan of open flames / kerosene fueled heaters in the home. IMHO a quality gas generator outside with electric heaters indoors much safer. An automatic Natural Gas Generator is the gold standard but costly.
