Smart move by Waldorf to get Matt involved. Great video, which shows that the Iridium is capable of much more than the usual cinematic or ambient stuff it is often used for.
I'm too fascinated with my old and trustee Blofeld ! Waldorf is an underestimate label, but they work hard doing great synths ! Your enthusiasm for music and synths in particular makes me feel that the world is not as bad as it seems. Keep on doing nice videos Matt !
Holy Sound! Been imagining the potential of a synth like this in the hands of yourself for along time... so much potential when combined with.the real grooving playing. So excited for you.
When they first announce the keyboard version of The iridium, all I could think was, I’ve already got the iridium desktop. Me no need. But then I saw Matt Johnson at the helm. And I just put my iridium module on eBay. I will definitely trade up. Matt demonstrated how much more of an experience it is. My iridium is a desert island instrument. By far the most fascinating synthesizer I have owned. And I started synthesizing in 1986. I have owned dozens.
What I am most excited about is that the PolyAT is coming from Fatar; we can only hope that Fatar will make this keybed available to other manufacturers, as well as Fatar making their own dedicated PolyAT MIDI controllers.
A dream synthesizer for me. I have no business spending that kind of money on a machine I'm just doodling around with.....but oh GOD what a synth. You've done it again Waldorf. A big thank you to Matt Johnson for sharing this with us.
Wow!!! Sounds amazing brother! It really is a synth that can create those sounds we have floating around in our heads that need to be created. Love it!!
😁When you're looking for a Synth Demo and you end up on the Jamiroquai Keyboardist's channel. He's REAL! And He's playing and talking about a synth I like. The Iridium is amazing, but learning and stealing something from him is epic! I love when great musicians of this calibre share their "being a musician". Thank you so much!
Everything from your presentation; being more concise and confident to the editing on these videos has gotten close to immaculate in recent months. Amazing content as per usual👌
Thanks Matt for doing this. Just discovered your channel and it’s really great to see how a real musician uses these tools. I already loved my iridium and constantly surprise myself with what I’m able to do with it. But this got me even more inspired. It’s nice to see that someone with a clear love for analogue authenticity can still get so much out of a digital tool.
Brand new Iridium Keyboard arrived today! I’m “chuffed” to be enjoying Author: Matt Johnson patches! 😊❤ And seriously, thank you for the great walkthroughs of this amazing instrument. Really helps to get orientated with it! Cheers from here!
Just bought an iridium keyboard yesterday. Got it today from good old Thomann. The standout presets are a certain Matt Johnson.😉 The only thing that’s underused in a lot of the presets are the many ways of dirtying it up which adds beef to the sounds. Have beta 3 installed and it really ups the game. Using samples, wavetables etc in the waveform oscillator mode. Fantastic. Thanks Matt.👍
I was still deciding if I buy the Prophet Take 5 or the Iridium, but you definitely convinced me to go with the Iridium. Thanks, and great demo as usual :)
I adore analog but digital is so much bloody fun. For someone that write music spontaneously from the patch this is a dream. Thanks Matt, you’re a star.
Aw man, not as chuffed as we are to have you doing proper new synth reviews!! We need a video with you and jack duxbury man, pleeeeease make it happen!
The Iridium keyboard seems to be what I had hoped the Prophet X would be - while the latter has some things it perhaps does better, I think the Iridium is a much more tempting proposition, particularly when put in a more knobby form with poly aftertouch etc. Thanks for the great demo: your videos are always a pleasure to watch but it was great to see you get your hands on a product I find so exciting!
My Hydrasynth Keyboard: “No, Matt, please don‘t …!“ Matt: “… the Waldorf Iridium keyboard version“. My bank account: “No, Rayy, please don‘t …!“ Me: “OMG, I‘ve never liked desktop modules, but this keyboard with Matt’s patches sounds so overf***ingwhelmingly good!“ 💓
What’s really extraordinary Matt, Ive been just listening without even watching. I caught myself easily dreaming and visualizing myself in various spaces. Really hats off to you, you’re one heck of a special human being.
Goozebumps Matt, wish you made videos on chords, all levels... i feel stuck in my diatonic world and three chord inversions. Your creative world sounds so rich.... ❤
Awesome demonstration! I have an Iridium desktop, and really love how you showed so much of the important bits of the synth in an engaging and casual way. You said “I’m not going to show you everything” but I think you hit the high notes expertly :)
Back in the nineties I had an excellent “Acoustic modelling” synth - the Mighty Technics WSA-1 - where is it now?! Some of the sounds were reminiscent of this beast - well ahead of its time with a magic trackball controller. The huge evolving sounds are magic - nice addition to the rig Matt.
Matt...I first found out about you hearing your artistry with Jamiroquai, and was hooked, having the band's tracks on different mixtape projects.I spin records, and have my own little project studio setup. Now I already have an Ensoniq weighted , a Roland HS60, Alesis QuadraVerb Plus, and a host of hardware samplers..I am planning to get ONE more versatile synth and a 88 key workstation, and I believe this Iridium might be what I want. I want something highly versatile, something like my Roland that will keep me exploring it all day and night.OOPS!!!!! You did it now.I saw what you are able to do with samples around 9 minutes..Ok,I am sold..We're done here.
Recently I was wondering if you also would like the major digital synths like Quantum/Iridium besides the best analog ones like Moog/Sequential. I'm very happily suprised you have this collaboration with Waldorf and made this video. Inspiration overload... Thanks a lot!
Such a great review. Id always loved the sound of the iridium desktop but to see keyboard version with poly aftertouch is such good news. Would make a great accompaniment to my hydrasynth desktop!
@@duel5071 Could add Montage/MODX into the mix for bread and butter, plus Yamaha-flavored FM, but those … THOSE three synths, Hydrasynth Deluxe (and its 73-key polyphonic aftertouch keybed), Iridium [keyboard version], and Montage/MODX … 😘👌🏼💥
You are an amazing musician and this synth is terrific. Now ranking first on my purchase list if I get rich. Thanks for your hints, always highly valuable
That intro jam was like a mix between the tracks Automaton by Jamiroquai and Short Circuit by Daft Punk. It would be incredible if the next Jamiroquai album had even just ONE track infused with that 80s vintage electro analog synthwave type of feel to it!
Excited to see you reviewing a Waldorf! Top notch playing as always, and man does this thing sound good. I just got a Waldorf STVC a couple of months ago and am loving it. They make such quality products.
Also got an STVC recently. “Quality product“? Those wonky knobs are the worst I‘ve ever experienced on any synth, and after 4 weeks the unit is completely dead, i.e. it doesn‘t power up anymore. I really hope that the Iridium KB is of better quality …
I would absolutely love it (and wouldn't be the only one) if you were giving piano lessons / music theory lessons through some sort of monthly course system
I’ve watched a lot of videos on this Waldorf Iridium keyboard and this is by far the best demonstration I’ve seen. Well done thanks.
Very nice, but be careful before you hit that pre-order button, Matt can make any synth sound amazing :)
Too late. I ordered it.
I have the exact opposite ability. I can make any synth sound awful.

Your patches on the Iridium, they are bloody brilliant!. I bought the Iridium yesterday, what an amazing machine.
Great keyboard!

I gotta say...as impressive as this beast is. The video editing is just as good. Nice job, Matt.

This is by far the most enjoyable overview of any of the Iridiums so far. Thanks very much Matt.
What I am most excited about is that the PolyAT is coming from Fatar; we can only hope that Fatar will make this keybed available to other manufacturers, as well as Fatar making their own dedicated PolyAT MIDI controllers.
😎Agreed… I hope John Bowen takes note.. would be amazing in his SOLARIS
Hydrasynth I believe has this.
Fatar action is garbage. Yamaha has it mastered. Shame they stopped licensing it.
@@jimmybuffet4970 What controller should I get for supreme feel for soft synths ?
I could only afford to buy one in my dreams… With that being said, What an amazing and well thought out synth. Great job Waldorf!
very nice and the way you handle it actually makes sense for songs
A dream synthesizer for me.
I have no business spending that kind of money on a machine I'm just doodling around with.....but oh GOD what a synth.
You've done it again Waldorf. A big thank you to Matt Johnson for sharing this with us.
You either have low self-esteem or low cash levels then.

Matt ure biggest inspiration here on YT for the last years. Thank you!
Matt, you are such a badass…I’ve been waiting for a truly new synth sound engine to come about and your demo of the Waldorf Iridium is promising!
Everything from your presentation; being more concise and confident to the editing on these videos has gotten close to immaculate in recent months.
Amazing content as per usual👌
Some of those passages give a very Vangelis vibe. Excellent demo. It really doesn't get any better than that when demonstrating a keyboard.
Thanks Matt. I had the desktop version and that was great fun but now this with poly aftertouch is a whole new beast.
Thanks Markus, yeah it's a lot of fun
Yep, was eyeing up the Hydrasynth Deluxe with it’s extended range bespoke Poly AT keybed, but this as a sound creation workhorse is very tempting!! 🎵🍻
Desktop Iridium + LinnStrument is a ton of MPE loveliness 🤓
Beautiful presentation! This thing is amazing! I dare say that the Waldorf Iridium and the Arturia Polybrute will become sought after classics.

Beauty in look, sound and playing! Loved that first sound during the live playing section of the video!

It's a great keyboard enjoy!
Intro tune has this sound vibe as XJ220 Moody Breeze, something so good. Love it
I think this is my favorite video so far. Really enjoying the electronic explorations
I ABSOLUTELY want more jams on this gear. l Oh, please come back to the retro 80s jams!!!!!
Double LIKEs for the wonderful montage after the review - beautiful!
Looks and sounds awesome! Well done Waldorf! I imagine if Arturia released Pigment as a keyboard it would be similar!
Pigments is a complete monster. I love it.
I could listen to this all day! Might have to pick up one of these. Thanks for sharing.

Yea I enjoy digital synths too
12:16 Bucephalus Bouncing Ball stylie, love it!!
The sample shaping would make Bueller Miss at least a few more days at school too!!🙏
Great one! That Intro-tune sounds like Jamiroquai met Front 242 for a Jam-session 🤩
Mr. Matt Johnson I just want to say... I like you buddy. The world needs more people like you.
At the Beginning, thats the best 49 Seconds i‘ve ever heard. Brilliant! ❤️🔥

Beautifully shot film Matt! it sounds great too... also seems to be able to do the grain sampling!
What a synth - fantastic sound design
OMG I’m already in love with my Iridium desktop, but will need to get this one for live performances with my bands!
Just hook up a MIDI controller to your desktop version that has after touch. Way cheaper that way. It is the same exact thing.
Awesome demonstration! I have an Iridium desktop, and really love how you showed so much of the important bits of the synth in an engaging and casual way. You said “I’m not going to show you everything” but I think you hit the high notes expertly :)

The Yamaha VL70m is also still gorgeous although, very limited without a wind controller
We are still waiting for it to return in form of the Anyma Omega...

Great demo Matt! The part with the Trevor Horn sample is the most creative granular synthesis demo I've heard. 😎
Such a great review. Id always loved the sound of the iridium desktop but to see keyboard version with poly aftertouch is such good news. Would make a great accompaniment to my hydrasynth desktop!

That is one wicked synth!!! Lots of tweaking, and aftertouch. Kudos on getting a Waldorf.

Very nice démo, most beautifull.
Enjoying the video effects you added haha
Another great video with amazing sounds totally loving this bro!!!
This sounds amazing! So diverse, amazing complex patches...I'm looking for a new polysynth, but torn between this and the new Moog Muse🤔
I have the desktop version and it's a joy to do sound design on. I was not expecting this and now I'm not sure what i want to do with my life.
You want to sell your Iridium and buy Iridium keyboard, that's what you want to do with your life now.
Again a great video.. 'Los Angeles 2019' vibe at the end? 'A time to die': shortly after informing the good lady I bought another 'shiny'.... :)
This sounds amazing. Good job.Beyond my budget for now....maybe one day.

This is like the monster in The Thing. It ate up a bunch of synthesizers, and players. The Iridium is The Thing of synths.
I have the desktop iridium, glad I did since I have a few great poly aftertouch keyboards like the TS10 to use it with
Very easy to understand demonstration
Wow Mat you could make two sticks and a piece of rock sound good 👍 nice vid
You could make a great experimental hip hop album.
I would absolutely love it (and wouldn't be the only one) if you were giving piano lessons / music theory lessons through some sort of monthly course system
