      That's because Marshall has an amp called DSL that can do anything from Metallica to death Metal. Van Halen is overdrive territory, not heavy distortion.

      Yeah that's not remotely high gain in the modern day. That's more of a Mesa thing or a Peavy thing

    One thing no one mentions about this brilliant amp is that it also has an internal load so that you can unplug the speaker and record silently though the DI OUT on the back.

      I just bought a 20 combo second hand and I'm loving the tone. I also have a boss katana 50 and they both give each other a run for their money. Interesting tube versus non tube, not a great deal of difference, dare I say! Haven't really given them a proper shootout yet but I'm not really too keen to find the answer! I like them both. Very interested in trying out the DI Out for recording. My question is are you allowed to unplug the speaker plug - as doesn't that blow up amplifiers?! Or that might be what the 'internal load' thing that is mentioned above is about?

    The thing I learned recently: is it still fits a 12" speaker if you're down to change it out.
    That means: 20W pseudo plexi with a 12" 25W Greenback. So that's a thing...

    • @voided76
      @voided76 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@wornstrat5517 I'd agree. The 20w is cathode so you can juggle various preamp and output tubes til hell won't have it and never have it down for having to bias it once.
      I'm seriously considering a 20W head just for the kicks of it.

    • @Faydit212
      @Faydit212 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      To be honest, the VT does a good job there, but instead of replacing it with a 12" Greenback, I personally would rather choose a 10" Creamback. This one is especially designed for small cabinets and produces a lot of great, nevertheless slightly tighter made bass even in open or semi-open-back cabinets, like here, , so you can get a lot of additional low end punch from this combination. The result rather will sound more like a 212, than like a 110. Another great sounding alternative is, to add a 112 or 212 closed back cabinet to the VT additionally, as a 1o and 12" combination usually also sounds great, or replace the VT with a WGS ET 10. (the 10" version of the ET 65) Has a really early cone breakup and sounds similar to a G12H, only even more balanced. In my experience a single G12M doesn't really do a good job, if compared with these alternatives. But this of course is my personal experience. The other alternative still is, to buy the head only and add another (closed back) 212 or 412 cabinet.

      I put 25w Greenback in mine and sounds awesome, I have a nice pedal board and I just love this amp, I ended up making a new cab that looks like the 1974X and being a bit bigger and good ply it is even better now.

    • @slimturnpike
      @slimturnpike 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Faydit212 I agree. The 20C is so obviously designed to a 10" and has the most low end of any 10" combo I've ever played including eg the Princeton, Pro Jr or Laney Cub. I don't believe that a 12 would improve the sound

    I am hovering around purchasing the 20 or the 50, reason being is that although the 50 would be too loud for my requirements i really need to get around 25/30 watts of clean power for solo work, im doubtful that the 20 could do higher level clean, it would probably be a frustration wishing for just the extra few clean watts, love the sounds, right up my alley ! This is a good demo, ( once we get past the big boy distortion lol ! ) Well done and thanks.

    • @221b-l3t

      Which did you end up getting? I had a great deal on an Origin 50C but it was broken so I got a good deal on an Origin 20C. I actually like the low wattage especially for the attenuation down to half a watt but being loud enough clean foe gigs is my concern. I can always mic it up of course and I play heavy metal so most of the time it would be maxes out an pushed with a drive or two but occasionally I need a clean tone, that isn't massively quieter than the rest of the song.

    I’ve played a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for years but wanted something totally different so I got the Origin 50! This is my 3rd Plexi and there is nothing wrong with the JJ's. In a band changing them does zip. The only tube that makes a reasonable difference is a Mullard on the first preamp tube.A bit fatter mids. At 74 and still playing a Plexi I have been there and got the T shirt on it all :-) Try a blindfold test. I did and all but the Mullard I could be fooled on.These days with only 2 manufacturers left since the Chinese one burnt down we are lucky to have tubes at all. The last 2 use antique equipment to make what they make and no one makes new machinery so parts have to be machined.
