I've been a professional class A CDL truck driver for 28 years. The best advice I can give, is truck driving is not for everyone. Get your CDL and find a company that offers tuition assistance. Pursue a degree online, and study on your non driving downtime. Hotspot your phone to a laptop if you have to.
When you get your degree, get a new career-- and keep you CDL valid, and your DOT physical up to date as a backup plan. You will NEVER be out of work if you have a class A CDL, and a clean driving record (no tickets or DUIs)

@@hp9792 so, if we go by $30k a month for a year and put that into a tax calculator, in California, he’s paying around 40% in taxes between state and federal, and that’s not including things that come out of your check such as social security, health care, etc.. So, he said after expense he has $22,500 left over so after taxes he’s bringing home $12,500-$13,000 a month after all taxes, and expenses, social security, health care and everything else. He’s gonna be in for a rude awakening come tax time if he really is under the impression that he only has to pay a total of 15% in taxes on a $30K a month income.. lmao
@@CFproductionsTV for a whole year you probably right but he did say it’s only for 3-4 months so it would be as high would it? From Texas so we are taxed much less
@@hp9792 if he were to only work for 4 months out of the year, he’d probably pay 8% less in taxes from what a said he would based off a whole year, but even then, that’s still about 19% MORE in taxes than he thinks he’s going to have to pay. Pretty scary for him. That money will be spent, then when tax time comes around and you find out you owe 16-20% more than what you put away to pay, you’re screwed lol And yeah Texas is nice, you guys don’t have state income tax

6:23 Truckers have to try to stay healthy. Heart attacks are a big killer among drivers, but so is tiredness, so nutrition is important. I think all truckers should have a jump rope in the glove box and they should do ten minutes during their long break.
Ya, it isn't just the nutrition but the lack of sleep and stress. Like they say, stress is the silent killer.
@@palillo2006 I don't know which country you are in but regarding sleep/rest I believe this why The Working Time Directive 2003/88/EC exists. The UK, where I am, has strict regulations regarding driver's hours and non-compliance doesn't end well. As for stress, I agree, it is a silent killer, but people can get stressed in any industry for any number of reasons, be they work related or otherwise.

US has strict rules too. We have to follow all of these at once:
70hr/8 day clock (can't drive more than 70hrs in 8 days), 14hr clock (must take 10 hrs off duty after 14hrs of consecutive on duty, doesn't have to be driving), 11hr clock (must take 10 hr break after 11 hrs of specifically driving) and 30min/8hr clock (must take at least a 30 minute break after 8hrs of driving).

I’m trying to become an owner operator too. I just passed my test and got my endorsements. I’m 19 and plan to work for a company for 1-2 years for experience and then buying my own truck. I just need to know what steps to take and how to work for a company as an owner operator. I’m also going to try to film my way up there.

not hating on this guy but just saying that being in the right situation and having the right opportunity is important too. i’m the same age as him and have been doing the same thing, but earn less than half of what he makes in a week. i work in the bay area hauling a tanker with culinary product (usually unrefined wine products) and the money this guy makes is an anomaly, it’s not common at all, also homeboy seems to be a hustler. it’s not impossible to do what he does but it’s not easy at all to end up in his position.

@@abrahamreyes9453 i have a community college close to where i stay that has a cdl program so i looked up who runs the program an called them up,found out what paperwork id need and enrolled myself for the next set of classes because they're like a month apart and paid the tuition outta pocket.it costs about 4k where i stay.an to make sure i wasnt gonna waste my effort i looked up trucking jobs near me on google and called up a company that does otr training and explained i was about to go to school and gave him my backround info and asked if he thinks id be able to work with them and he said absoulety there always looking for drivers for otr as long as there cdl liscene is clean

Who are you going through to pull loads for morningstar? All you contractors go through a broker right? I do not think a guy with his own truck can pull loads for morningstar and get paid directly by them. I think I heard one of the guys tell me once that they go through a single guy that has some of his own truck, Jiminez trucking or something like that. All the owner-operators that want to pull for MS for the season have to go through him, he gets a 10% cut and MS cuts him a single check to then distribute to all the Owner-operators. Is that how it works? I can tell you that the company drivers pulling the same loads are not making $3 a mile, more like .33 cents.

night shift way better got my license in 3 weeks and they make good money because there busy but the pay isnt that good compared to all the work they doing to fill up cost him 450$ min in Texas i fill up for 300$ and make 2.50-4$ a mile sometimes more but you have to build up your clints once you get clients that pay well you can take those lanes and you can guarantee great pay i get 500$ for 120 mile had a insane 2560 for 490 miles because it was a hotload and was late so they needed someone asap

I’ve done driving jobs and really enjoy the work but the pay is terrible here. Wish I could move to the US and rake in this sort of money as a truck driver.

Also remember, he is working 16 hour days, so its about 50$ /hr after expenses and before taxes if he works about 448hrs in the month. He is also earning 3$ / mile which is very high (Likely due to harvest season), typically its almost half that. 1.50-1.70 per mile..
