Since I was a small child I’ve always been drawn to Northern Europe. Whether it was northern Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, the Faroe Island or Norway. I don’t know why, they are places I’d never been before. Everyone I knew wanted to go to hot places and I did live in a few of them. I was even born in Gibraltar! But I’ve had a longing my whole life for the north, like it’s home calling me back. It’s so beautiful.

I grew up in a pretty cold place (Germany) but now live in Trondheim after studying here during my BA and meeting my husband here. It's something about Norwegian people and their appreciation for life, nature and family/friend time. Work/life balance here is fantastic, the nature is breath-taking and you don't have to have a high managerial position to be able to have a happy, healthy, comfortable life and to have children. Life passes by more slowly here and I am enjoying every minute. I've yet to meet someone who visited Norway and didn't fall in love with it!
I went to Norway once, it was just breathtakingly beautiful. I've traveled a lot but nothing came close to making my jaw drop
My wife is Norweigan and I am American. We live in Bodo and for a vacation we drove the coatline from Bodo to Oslo and we wer surprised how amazing the drive was. In fact I recorded the entire drive and we watch parts of it from time to time, We are definitely doing it again, If you have done it and you live here its something in my opinion you have to do at least once.
As a Norwegian myself, I will highly recommend going to the northern end of the country too. There is just so much to see
One day i will finally visit your beautiful country. I cannot bare in mind of leaving the world without seeing such beauty.
I'm from Nagaland, Indian, and I've never been out of the country. And while our state's ambience closely resembles to that of North European Countries - except that we don't have sea or ocean near us - I am absolutely fascinated and charmed by the beauty of Norway. Someday, I will surely have a vacation in Norway.
I live in Norway and can tell you it’s the greatest country in the world. You’re always welcome to travel here but remember to come here for the nature and avoid staying too long in the big cities.
@@randomdude8217 City life can be great, but it requires awareness of your own position - the winters are long and dark but can be very enjoyable if done right, urban life can swallow you if you're not aware of all the free recreational opportunities, nightlife can be fantastic but of course it's best with good friends. Grilling in the parks, boat trips, ski trips, road trips, walks, restaurant trips, sauna and bathing....
utopia would be to be able to pack your bags and go on walks for many weeks without needing income :p
You can do it but needs planning.
India can be very beautiful and has a very diverse geography, topography, environment. One place I definitely want to visit some time, maybe Kashmir or Ladakh or some place along the coast.
As a Norwegian living in southern Trøndelag 120km south of Trondheim, I travelled both south and north when I can, my favorite part of the country is defently the northern Norway. Both nature and people are awesome 24/7 all year long, but summertime with the midnight sun is a energy boost for mind and soul.
Norway is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited.

I had the chance to go to Norway when I wore the young man shoes, the landscape is amazing and the people wonderful. I will never forget. Best regards from Montreal Canada.
I would also recommend people to visit Røros, a beautiful town, old mining town with rich history and amazing architecture. Or just in general drive the mountains in the eastern parts of norway, if you love a more mountainous view. if you time it right you might even go for a mountain tour and see moskus, norways version of bison. Also trying the ferry that goes from bergen to kirkenes is a great option if you wanna experience the coasts, fjords and some more unknown and known towns. Visit Norway for a great experience!

As a Norwegian, I'd recommend to visit some more rural places, not just the big cities and travel destinations. My personal favourite is Setesdal, a valley consisting of the municipalities Evje og Hornnes, Bygland, Valle and Bykle. And although I'm from there, it is truly beautiful, both the nature and culture. If visiting in the summer, Bygland and Evje is the best, as they have more stuff to do in the summer. If visiting in the winter, be sure to visit Brokke in Valle and Hovden in Bykle, as they have some awesome skiing resorts. Hovden also has a waterpark for those who likes that :)
The Coffee/Cake Shop in Evje on the corner as you come in is awesome. Had a great time in the area up at Bjørndalen.

I've been to Norway 4 times in the military. I'm from Texas but I love it so much. Just beautiful.
Been to Norway three times already . Going again this June! I am a drummer and have musical projects there. I love Norway and its friendly and warm citizen, as well as the beautiful nature . Being Swiss , I really appreciate the Norwegian nature !
Lovely. One whole side of my family came from the Gudbrandsdalen region (Skjåk) a generation ago...so it's nice to see what the area looks like.
The man really isn't lying about the gin, he is some sort of alcohol alchemist. Not just a one-trick pony either, his aquavit is excellent too!
What a truly magical place! The beautiful fjords of Norway had long been on my bucket list & I got to visit right before the pandemic hit. Unforgettable cities, enchanting sights, and delicious food!

If you want to go for a overnight hike, sleeping in a tent, you can't find any better than Husedalen, just outside Kinsarvik.
You'll be walking up towards Hardangervidda, with some awesome views, and passing 4 incredible waterfalls!

Rest is a restaurant concept after my own heart. Never heard of it before, but I grew up in Oslo and have friends and family in and around the city. I'm going to visit all of them this Easter, and I'm definitely going to suggest lunch or dinner at Rest for one of my friends then! These chefs can make just about anything into a mouthwatering meal, and I'm always up for new flavor combinations and inspiration.

I love all the Scandinavian countries. Great Nature, great people. Norway is a beautiful landscape...mostly mystically and severely vertical in some areas but its wow....just don't try to go out in the forest at night.....the trolls will get you.

I'm from the county of Møre og Romsdal, where the most breathtaking landscape on Earth exists
Back in the 90'ties i worked a lot on the west coast of Norway, and I worked with German people, and in the evening they asked me to please take them for a trip in my (rental) car, and I asked 'why' because I did not understand, and they said 'because' so we did, and they where sitting in the car laughing while we was driving, i think it was because the roads was so incredibly narrow and winding, and the steep rocks on one side and the fjords on the other side, the west coast of Norway can be pretty crazy, and incredibly beautiful, especially in the spring perhaps, where it could both snow and be sun at the same time, and the snow flakes was shining in the air, and the trees are already greening, and you are driving through the landscape, it is magical
Being from Alaska, I've always wanted to go and explore the Norwegian nature. It appears almost identical. But I still want to for the mysterious histery.

I went to Bergen in 1968, with my grandpa Jens, who is from Bergen and my grandmother, Marit, who was from Christensen (?). Your trip was exactly what i want to do! Lovely. How can i get more information?

It could be either Kristiansand in the south of Norway or Kristiansund on the west coast.
Its nice that you have the same name as your grandmother and you have given your son, the same name as your grandfather 🙂 Marit and Jens, two tradiotional Norwegian names. 👍
You probably mean either Kristiansand which is in the south of Norway (my hometown), or Kristiansund which is in the northwest of the country. Bergen is in the west of Norway, so I would not be surprised if your grandmother was from Kristiansund (N) rather than Kristiansand (S), since that is closer to Bergen. Allthough she could of course possibly be from the south as well. But either way, Christensen is a surname, not a place. So it is logical to assume she was from one of these two cities!?!

Lærdal Tunnel are only a few of the attractions. I spent much of my childhood in Lærdal.

I would definitely recommend renting a campervan from Benzini Campers in Norway. There is a right to roam free, so you are welcome to camp almost everywhere you want! The freedom in Norway's breathtaking nature gets to another level then.
Allemannsretten (everyman's right) allows you to roam free on uncultivated land and camp there. This right however only applies to hikers and bikers using tents and sleeping bags. It does NOT apply to camper vans. They are still tolerated in most places but as with backpackers and tents, most people just don't know how to behave in nature. It's a pity to see forbidden signs go up all over Norway, Sweden, Finland due to the ignorance of the masses, but I guess it is inevitable and understandable.

Just the driving. I'd say between Bergen and Trondheim (with his detour) about 13-15 hrs. From Trondheim to Oslo, he is taking an even bigger more scenic detour so at least 15hrs+ I'd recon. Usually you can drive the fast boring route to Oslo in 7hrs. I'd plan at least a week for the whole trip. More of you'd like to hang out in the cities or cabins for longer.

It is very nice place to visit ones in a while, but it can be very depressive place for living.
I´ve lived here my whole life, not depressed. Quite the opposite actually. Grateful that I live in a safe country with beautiful nature. Clean, fresh air, not much pollution.
