D@@badboybootz8 - My berkey is about 10 years old so this is from my memory with fluoride flters made 10 years ago. Berkey fluoride filter last only one year max. In the event of an EMP which would knock out electricity and subsequently pump stations in our small rural water district, we would have the option of using water from our pond. Blue car TDS dropped some but not too much. I think The Berkey leaves behind lots of the minerals in the water, which id not necessarily a bad thing, but to me it doesn't taste good. I'm in Los Angeles, I'm sure there's a bunch of junk in our water. I still use the Berkey just because I paid for it, might as well use it. My husband is also not a fan of the taste.

Country Living Experience: A Homesteading Journey I probably didn’t do a good job explaining. We usually purchase our water by filling the 5 gallon water jugs. My berkey water seems to have ‘weight’ to it. For example the consistency of water vs maybe apple juice. I ran the water through a few times. I will run a few more cycles and see if there is a difference.
@@elisscaliving4776 yes It was a matter of running eight or nine cycles through the filters I also bought the chlorine filters. The water is delicious now I have no complaints
I live in Cali and bought a travel berkey since it’s one of the only ones allowed and I had my water tested in an EPA approved lab and berkey although claims to remove 99% of metals it does not. I found alarmingly high levels of aluminum in our water along with chlorine and sulfates. The test they conducted was not in an EPA approved lab and we have to ask ourselves where did they get their tap water they’re testing from? The customer service is terrible and I am trying to find a way to return my berkey without 2 different penalties of 20% each.
Just heads up: I re-ordered my black filters for my Berkey and the water STINKS like petroleum. I don't know why, and I've primed over and over but it stinks. My water certainly did NOT smell that way with my old Berkey filters. I've had horrible service with this company, they don't want to hear my complaints and insist on me paying for new filters. The water out of tap in the upper chamber actually smells better by a mile (though a bit chlorinated). What is wrong with this company? and why are their products going downhill? Their service dept is NOT what you want to deal with, with a problem. I recommend going elsewhere when looking for a home water filter.
That is not correct. Not all water systems add fluoride. We have a rural system with 310 connected properties. No fluoride is added. I should know as I sit on the board of directors for the system.

Wow, sorry about the arsenic. That is crazy. No iron in our water. It is high levels of tannins. ( I sit on the water board of directors for my area). Not harmful but colors your water.
I got my scratch and dent Berkey but I can’t find the flaw.
Awesome! It surprised me too. Just a small paint blemish. Gotta love that.
Where's the link to the scratch and dent?
@@ackiwiyou ebay has them
Where is the dent link? Great video!
Thanks. Here you go.....www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com/blemished-berkey-system-183.html
They’re out of most everything!
@@debrasaints3809 They sell fast. Monitor daily.
What about the silver in the filters? Isn't it dangerous?
Never heard of that. Silver is not really dangerous anyway
@@CountryLivingExperience excess silver in water can cause argyria, a permanent discolouration of the skin. Actually it can make your skin blue or grey. Look it up.
Interesting. I doubt these filters have a high enough silver content to cause that issue.
I have drank from them for years and I am not blue.
@@CountryLivingExperience Thank you
Is this still the best most reasonable water filter to get?
I think it is. It works flawlessly for us. I have been using it everyday since I made this video.
@@CountryLivingExperience thank you for replying back. Looks like I’m gonna add it to my list!
Cool

What's the tds of the berky filtered water?
Not sure. www.berkeyfilters.com/pages/using-a-tds-meter-on-berkey-water
I have the same Berkey but it doesn't work it doesn't filter my water
How so?
The fluoride filters also filter arsenic. Just FYI.
Cool. Thanks
Help. I just bought my Berkey, primed both black and fluoride filters but my water tastes bad and testing around 222 TDS.
I would try to reprime or call the company you bought them from. I am unfamiliar with the fluoride filters so I cannot offer any thoughts on those. My water is tastes great.
Just got a big Berkey, my tap water tds is 146 after I run my tap water threw the Berkey it's 167 with???😕🤔
Blue car could be residual gunk inside the filters. Try re-priming.
@@janetsadeghi1501thanks, did it work for you?
Blue car TDS dropped some but not too much. I think The Berkey leaves behind lots of the minerals in the water, which id not necessarily a bad thing, but to me it doesn't taste good. I'm in Los Angeles, I'm sure there's a bunch of junk in our water. I still use the Berkey just because I paid for it, might as well use it. My husband is also not a fan of the taste.
How long does the filtered water stays good to drink?
It will stay for a very long time. You will drink it way before it goes stale.
How do you like it now? Still good?
I love it. Still great tasting water.
Oh, BTW, thanks for a good video!
Thank you!
Prime them at a hose faucet outside.
I will next time for sure
Nice hat!

I'm on disability so my ability to purchase luxury items like this is far and few in between. Would it be possible to supply me with a link or contact information to where you purchased yours? I would be more than happy to purchase a "scratch and dent" one just so I could obtain one for myself. Thank you in advance
Sure. Here you go. www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com/blemished-berkey-system.html
@@CountryLivingExperience Thank you so much!
Ever try Zero water filter water??
I have not tried it.
Just buy it straight from Berkey!
For sure. That is what we did.
Beautiful little girl.
Thank you
We just bought ours. The water seems to be kind of ‘thick’ . Has anyone experienced that at all?
I have not experienced that. I am not sure what that would even be like.
@@prestigeprestiges8311 did you fix it
@@elisscaliving4776 yes It was a matter of running eight or nine cycles through the filters I also bought the chlorine filters.
Interesting. I have not had any issues with mine. You should contact the company again. I am sure they will help.
Bathtub to prime the filters instead of the sink?
Could work but it really depends on the faucet design. I also don’t have a bathtub. Two showers
if you just use a garden hose when you prime it is much easier. keep the pressure low and just hold it on there for a few minutes, bobs your uncle.
Thanks. I'll give that a shot
Nice kitchen
Barndo?
Thank you. Not a barndo. Stick framed conventional construction.
Oh no. I have not had any issues so far. I posted a few links. Which company was it?
@@CountryLivingExperience
I cannot find the links you posted..? Were did you get yours??
@@lorenyoder8458 This is the one. www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com/black-berkey-filters.html We got a scratch and dent/refurbished.
USE A TESTER AS I DID YOU WILL THINK TWICE ABOUT BERKEY IT TESTED 545 ON THE TESTER THATS NOT 99.9 PURE WATER??
Darn
I was excited until u mentioned it does not filter fluoride 😫
They have special fluoride attachment filters that you can get separately.
@@CountryLivingExperience
Thanks for reiterating that. Have u tried it yet? Would u trust that system please?
@@Deikoka I have not tried it because our water system does not fluoridate our water.
@@CountryLivingExperience
👌🏿 understood
you dont have chloramine or fluoride.
No, not in our rural water system
I thought there was a test?
The test was to see if the filter took out the tannins in my water. It did. I showed that.
Clickbaited where are the test results
No fluoride???? Where do you live? All tap water has fluoride. Sorry buddy.
That is not correct. Not all water systems add fluoride. We have a rural system with 310 connected properties. No fluoride is added. I should know as I sit on the board of directors for the system.
actually, not all cities add fluoride, ours doesn't
