Throwing diamond jigs in the surf is an effective way to catch many of the schooling species that are present. I've been testing different styles for a long time and I believe this one may be the answer to some of the problems I've been having with others. There were bonita, bluefish, ladyfish, and Spanish mackerel around this day.

Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.

Good stuff my man. I replace those big heavy wire trebles with a thinner wire single on my jigs and tend to keep em buttoned up a bit better. Looks like an epic beach. Ton of life

Question: why don't you wade out further and not need to cast these jigs as far? Generally why you fish on dry ground most of the time and not venture out a bit further? Thanks Bum.
Great video, I always have fun catching alot of little fish,of coarse catching big fish is alot of fun. Another good lure to use is a Gacha plug,my tackle box always has some in it. I enjoy watching your videos, I have learned some new techniques, that I want to try.
We trolled with two rods last month for spanish mackerel. One rod with the 'gotcha' lure, the other with a clark spoon. Clark spoon put fish in the boat every time,' Gotcha lure had strike after strike but never a hook set (no fish in the boat)

Jig para makes some great lures. Jig para spin even better. U need to try them. Many sizes too
I’ve had issues with fish throwing heavy lures. The split ring is the culprit. If you can add a heavy duty swivel between the hook and the jig that will eliminate the issue. Also look up VMC ILS in-line single hook. You can just replace the travel with this hook.
Nice catches! I'm having a lot of success with the original 1oz gator spoon, caught barracudas, snook and a huge tarpon on that lure. I posted the video on my TH-cam channel of the tarpon. Keep it up with the good fishing!

Two words “siwash hook”. We use these on diamond jigs in the North East for strippers and blues

When you make your own pomp rigs and you are using non snelled hooks, do you feed the dropper loops through the back side of the hook or the front side? Or does it even really matter?
Ive notice thst on the circle hooks i fancy with has the eye angled off the shank and noticed that the hook lays different depending on what side of the hook i thread the line through and didnt know if that effected the hook set

One thing a lot of surf fishetman swear by are lipless crankbaits. Everything that eats spoons will eat them and you can get them in saltwater models and sizes (up to 1.5 oz i think). They don't throw as far as spoons, but they do throw farther than 90% of non-metal lures. Plus, with two trebles and being less dense than spoons/diamond jigs, they are much harder for fish to throw and have a higher hookup ratio. You should give them a whirl....they may be the answer you are looking for when the fish are in reach of them. I do agree that nothing cast as far as slab spoons / diamond jigs though. For a cheap alternative to the diamond jigs get some 3/4 oz C.C. spoons by Cotton Cordell at Wally world. Two to a pack for under $4, decent hooks, and hold up well. Just come in chrome but the fish don't seem to care.
Lipless are awesome!! A bit spendy but you are right they work great. Try a Crocodile spoon by Luhr Jensen. Usually used for Salmon n Trout but work killer in salt. I used them for Kingfish and Ceros in the Keys for years.

Lose the loop knot to start. I always use a tight knot. I would also change your rod to a heavier action 7 or 8 foot rod. Always keep your rod tip up to keep tension. Only bring your rod to the side when the fish takes flight. When it jumps keep reeling and bring your tip to the side and down. Once the fish is back in the water rod tip up. That should help
I think if you change out your hooks and go to at least 1 if not 2 sizes larger it will give a deeper hook set and you will loose less fish. It works for me.
