Yes, he himself wrote that "the final cause of all music [...] should be nothing more than just the glory of God and recreation of the mind". And I'm very glad that, despite me being atheist, this foundamental aspect of his music came through
I want to thank everybody who takes the time to write something about my playing and Bach's music. Most of the comments are really touching and show a deep understanding of feelings, phrasing and style; some of them, like the one of Bert Carter, touch levels of communication that are maybe possible to be reached only through music. My most sincere thanks to you all for your sensitivity!
lachi1905 Thank you very much for sharing your performance. You have made me a fan of Bach's Lute music and I would like to find a good recording with great quality like your performance. Please let me know if you recommend any specific recordings. Grazie
The thing is...... it's like another dimension...like the whole universe...billions of galaxies celebrating every thing that always is...no past.. no present ..no future... I can't tell you...but I thank you...
The fact that he has less than 2K subscribers, yet 600K views, is telling how masterful the performance is. Not sure why more aren't subscribing - I just did!
The TH-cam algorithm appeared to recommend the personification of perfection this evening. I am no musical expert, but sir, your playing was so moving. Your fingers gracefully fluttered across and plucked the instrument with such elegant poise and assurance. The sound you created from this lute, written by Bach, was such a wonderfully nuanced experience. Grazie signore.
Satisfying, enjoyable, and a credit to the persistent work to achieve high levels of artistry, for Bach needs and deserves so much. It is happily calming yet inspiring to many.
Great interpretation of this masterpiece by Bach.. Being a guitar player I can say the low notes on your lute really add a pleasing dimension to the sound. Wonderful ...
Wow! I've played this piece for 25 years and I still enjoy playing and listening to it. I love the soft tone of this instrument, and the way you play the bass notes....I am going to buy myself a lute...next pay check....if all goes well. LOL!!! Very beautiful playing!
Thank you very much for this very intimate recording. Although I play the piece myself, I hear the fugue with different ears and each time I discover new sounds and understand even better what this fugue is all about.
This is the first time I hear this fugue as a real fugue... with all the voices clear! I think this is the best interpretation I heard! Thank you for the very nice playing!
This astounds me. Bach is far and beyond all others as my favorite composer. I continue to be amazed by his compositions, and this particular rendition of BWV 998 makes me want to go out and buy a Theorbo (LOL!!!). A beautiful, tasteful and close-to-the-intended interpretation of this wonderful piece! Thanks so much for sharing with us.
I'm glad you like it! .the problem of "being authentic" is pretty complicated, here just a few lines: You shoundn't make the mistake (as many do) of considering the authenticity of the instrument as relevant, forgetting what the word itself - "instrument" - means: something we use to reach a goal - and not the goal itself (when you eat you don't enjoy the fork, don't you? You serch for the cutlery which is more suitable to your meal, but you still enjoy the food...). It's a matter of style.
lachi1905, sir, this is the best comment on “authentic instrument” absolutism I’ve ever read. Thank you for your insightful and incisive statement. and thank you for your beautiful playing of this wonderful piece.
Absolutely love this piece - and almost more than that? I love this guy's incredibly musical performance - every line just pops out - and is played with love.
This surely must be one of the most beautiful music pieces ever composed, I get so moved by this each time I listen... Thank you for this beautiful rendition
Oh...BRAVO! I put this on full screen, cranked up the surround sound. The movement is beautiful (one of my favorites by Bach), the lute and the video are also beautiful...oh and your playing is spectacular! LOVED it...that was my best 6 minutes today. Thanks for sharing!

¡Felicidades!
I asked Oscar Castro-Neves to watch/listen to this, and now he's acquired the Koonce transcriptions of the lute suites for guitar, having been completely taken by Maestro Contini's performance. I was first acquainted with BWV998 through the Koonce edition and now I return to it, inspired by the tears brought by these performances.
Superbe!
I listened your music first time today. I found it by chance! I love your music beause very beautiful and sweet. Duaring listen your music, I felt so happy! I think your music is filled by love. If I have a chance, I love to go to your concert.
Well, I enjoy your video concerts very much. Your approach to this instrument and the music is both relaxing and stimulating. You make the playing seem fun and uncomplicated, which is the virtue that one should aspire to in playing, the elegance. I would so love to have such an archlute to experiment with. Perhaps someday!
Today is the first day I discovered the instrument of theorbo and I'm instantly intrigued by its tone. I am familiar with various families of the guitar, and I often find the nylon stringed ones lacking high end and clarity, and the steel stringed ones sounding too sharp and lacking the warmth. The theorbo sounds like the perfect tone I've been looking for. Excellent clarity on the high end and perfectly crisp and distinctive low end. But the tone is also as warm as nylon string instrument gets. Thank you for your performance; I greatly enjoyed it. And thank you for introducing me to the theorbo.
So wonderfully expressive on this instrument. Many times I have wished that I could make my harpsichord more mellow - change its sound instantly by my playing.
J.S. Bachs music always feels so devotional, a glory to God. That is the mood you set with your playing
Yes, he himself wrote that "the final cause of all music [...] should be nothing more than just the glory of God and recreation of the mind". And I'm very glad that, despite me being atheist, this foundamental aspect of his music came through

How about this for a comment? Amazing.

tfw u look through every comment and find no bert carter comment. feelsbadman
fantastic! Bach's music is the heart of God.
Grazie.
I love to play this on guitar, but I must say: this is the real thing. So pure, fragile, yet full of colour and deep emotion.
And to play this music so well without a single fret buzz or string dampening and from memory says a lot as to how masterfully this work was played.
Thanks! But to be fair this is not live playing: I first recorded it (with some cuts) and then made the video in playback
@@lachi1905 Still excellent. Even to edit this seemlesly is quite impressive.
Your performance truly refreshes my soul and glorifies our God. Thank you for so carefully honoring Bach and the purpose of his exalted music.
Played this video to my 3 day old son today, he listened intently!
Sublime playing. Bach knew so much about every note he wrote down in such a mind boggling way. You can never fail playing his stuff.
This is so beautifully played. I sometimes wish I wasn't a guitarist but a lutenist. Alas... :-)
Great respect for this performance.
Per-Olov
OMG big praise from the amazing Per-Olov. That would go on my CV if it ever happened to me! What an accolade
Aldrig för sent att lära sig!.
I know I'm pretty randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch new movies online?
@Jerry Sam flixportal
@Brady Zion Thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it!

Deeply soulful. Thank you for this sweet kiss from beyond to all the gentle souls of Earth.
No one created the most perfect compositions. J. S. Bach is synonymous with the word perfection.
The most beautiful interpretation of this piece I've heard to date. Bravo 👏 and thank you 🙏

I know first-hand how hard this piece is, and he plays it not only cleanly but with grace and fluidity - the mark of a true professional.
Bravissimo Luciano!! Simplemente perfecto...
For a moment i felt very very close to heaven... your playing is beautiful!
Merci.
The souls of the composer and the interpreter are very special!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow...never heard of an alto guitar. Now I have! Thanks for the "heads up" :-) All the points you make are very true and relevant. Thanks again.
The composer and the player souls are very special!!!!!!!!
Yes, indeed!

This is a performance of great refinement and sensibility. Thank you for revealing yet another side to this unfathomable and inexhaustible piece.
Beautiful! I could listen to this all day.
Prepare for this video to get revived. Masterful performance my friend.
Yep
This is the first time I hear this fugue as a real fugue... with all the voices clear! I think this is the best interpretation I heard! Thank you for the very nice playing!
This is just so wonderful. It is unique because I don't think I have heard before the softness of Bach's touch with the Divine.

A perfect comment. Could have not said it better myself! :-)
Exquisite, Divine, Joyous. I wish I could find better words to match the beauty of the playing of this wonderful piece of heavenly music.
Wonderful interpretation ... I was close to tears at some of this guy's nuanced phrasing.
I find no comparisons. The most authentic experience of this work.
RichartMedia Completely agree. I've never heard anything like this. It's wonderful
Heaven! Thank you so much for showing us the world that is this piece, thank you so much, Lute Maestro for honoring Bach´s music.
I could listen to this all night & never grow tired of it. Just beautiful & soothing!

Brings peace and harmony to me like nothing else...absolutely serenely beautiful
2019 November anyone ? Yet it still remains a majestic performance !
2020 (October).
