The business did do a lot better after Gordon helped, and in the revisit a year later business was up 30%. Dean then sold the restaurant in 2009, and it's now no longer a steakhouse.

It never ceases to amaze me, how these owners expect GR to say their food was great - if their food were great, they won't have needed to call him in - the owners' Delusion about themselves, I think, is what really destroys a restaurant business.

There has been times in this series where the food is great/ the chefs are good but limited.
It's not really a delusion If they have seen any other of his shows episode (which I am pretty sure they have since they have agreed to be on one) they know that in every episode the first time he tastes the menu he says everything is crap. All of their "I hope he is going to like it" BS and then being surprised that he doesn't like any of it. It's all a bloody act!

Actually the ones that are not from an English speaking country will probably never make your/you're kind of mistake. We've learned English in school, so their/they are, then/than, and your/you're are totally different things for us. We may have our articles or the word order wrong, but not that. That's mostly the mistake of illiterate children who speak English daily but don't read much. So please don't decide for others what's insulting and what's not. We've got enough of "offended".
Gordon does go through a lot of bulls to help people. He is practically a saint.

Nothing about that made sense. I think they edited it to make it appear like the printer wasn’t working for an hour. There’s just no way.

The owner is a mob boss wannabe without the gravitas to pull it off. It doesn't take a genius to understand the fact that if you put three staff members (excluding the waiters!) dedicated to greetings with just one guy cooking, you're really bad at management. Honestly, this is the first time that I wanted the restaurant to fail thanks to the owner's ego.

I've seen this episode three times over the last few years. I think it's my favourite of the whole series. The joint always had so much potential, all it needed was a shove in the right direction. I hope the crew are doing well to this day.

I think the realest things these make me realize is that out of all our failures we usually just need to look in and reevaluate our choices.
Gordon has a passion for food, he wants to see restaurants bloom and have good food around the world, these videos make me realize that.

I love how they are like "it was obviously getting to Tom" who made a TINY mistake and immediately corrected it.
Gordon who is an elite chef , has multiple high class restaurants that normal people would have to break their fixed deposits just to eat at his place , has multiple cookbooks , is a celebrity and has travelled various places learning about cuisine.
Meanwhile 90% failing restaurants owners: No your advice is wrong ! I won't accept your help not until I throw tantrums and drama because my place was a pigsty and you asked me to clean it. What is fresh food ? Frozen food is ultimate food that's how cooking is done.
🤦♂️ I don't even know how to cook but if someone like chef ramsay is coming to teach me I'd be taking notes , asking all sorts of questions and show him RESPECT.
Well seeing how over 60% of the restaurants he visits end up closing down within a few months after the show he must be doing something wrong... oh wait, yea, maybe because it is a TV SHOW meant for entertainment not reality. Gordon doesn't give 2 shits about these restaurants, it's all for his show.
Most of the episodes are aired several months after the show is filmed and produced. That doesn't really help the restaurant.
And just think about this for more then a second; there is a full week (or more) of filming and acting, "customers" brought in from craigs list and instructed on how to act and what to say when the camera is at their table. Then everything is cut and edited to fit into a 40 min episode. That's NOT reality!
The moment the stage is set throughout the restaurants, filming equipment, lights and cameras hanging all over the place, everyone knowing that they are going to be on global tv is the moment everyone stops being their real normal self. Even Ramsey!
They also try and make it look like he is some super psychologist managing to change sociopaths with sever mental disorders from one day to the next. It's all an act.
If most people on his show are like that in real life then they need a years of help from a real educated psychologist not Gordons magical capabilities of making them better from 1 day to the next.

MOST of us viewers realise that it is only a snapshot into the harsh realities of running a restaurant and GR’s purpose there is to give them a tight wake up call with a few ideas, that they could make use of if they are willing to take a step out of their usual rut and TRY something different.
He also gives a very brief insight into how things could be…. Any bright owner would be keeping a list of every little thing he says so that they can go out and learn about it. He craps on you for providing frozen food - go and learn about fresh food storage; learn about labelling and rotation, and food safety, and experiment with keeping a limited fresh food menu. He says talk to each other the line - go and ask other owners if you can watch their kitchen staff work. He says, try serving steak - then f try serving steak (and go for it, not some lame menu item at the bottom of your vaguely Italian pick and mix menu!)
This is like any other Master Class! You snooze YOU lose!

He likely didn't even eat the food. It's hilarious how people can't get their heads around the fact that a show taking a week or more of filming and acting then cut and edited to fit into a 40 min episode is not reality.

As a plumber I can categorically tell you that I've never seen anybody plumb a sink waste with 1 1/4" or 22mm copper. Hilarious. Not only that but it doesn't have a trap so the smell of sewerage is guaranteed to be coming up.

I think it's both a popular dish and it's easy for Gordon to tell whether it's fresh or not. If the restaurant cheaps out on something basic like this (and possibly even charges a lot for it) that's a very early red flag.

So Joe sold this place and hilariously it has turned into yet another Italian place in the city… with high prices and mediocre reviews. But before Joe sold it he started profiting, not sure why he sold it but Joe went on to have a TV show and co-host with another person where they both hunt and cook food.

Thirty-plus years in Japan and especially back in the day I had some of the best meals ever in joints so smoked up inside they were black, and the little old guy/gal behind the counter could only be seen when one of their gnarled, skilled chef hands shoved another dish your way.
Lots of those places are gone now... but I'm eternally grateful for them, genuinely increased my love of cooking and food.
Presentation doesn't hurt. but of course, we come to eat.
The Owner really was the worst, everything gone wrong coz he really can't be the leader it should be, I hope he'll never do the same mistakes and give his chef and crew all the support they really need, everything can really be good when the leader is good and can do adjustment in the last minute, without losing their temper..
