My girlfriend (we only recently started dating) said that she talked to her friends about me and they told her that she’s gonna have to get a bike now. Clearly she has awesome friends! Haha! So I shared this video with her as an example of something we can do together. Hell, we have joked about absconding to Buenos Aries to become tango dancers anyway. Same part of the world!

Editing was awkward. Felt like a lot of epic shots, or content in general was left out and there should have been a longer video. Also no mention of the annual Transandes Challenge race held in Pategonia, Chile (right around where this was filmed) since 2009.

I concurr with the others saying this video felt too rushed, maybe out of time constraints. The sheer endlessness and tranquility of the patagonian wilderness was a little bit missing. I get that it is essentially a promo video for the bikes, but maybe do a second video more focused on the experience itself

@Phil Weatherley This was probably journey of a lifetime, it was NOT a video of journey of a lifetime. And I don't have to define it, it is easy to compare, 2 years ago Simon and Josh went to Marocco, the video is much better, in many regards. Also packing setup video is way better because it SHOWS the gear (and how to pack it). One year ago video from Scotland is also better. Outside GCN, for example two parts of "A Journey Beyond". All those videos are sponsored, yet they are not pushy, they are focused on a journey on the bike, living, experiencing, enjoying. But of course if you liked this video, well, it is great.

Enjoyed the vid but it felt a little flat in comparison to the nc500 and Morocco bikepacking vids. Shame really as the gcn bikepacking vids are some of the channel’s best content.
Take more time with these epics gcn... Slow down the edits and give more time for the footage to convey the majesty of the terrain and the challenges of bikepacking. I’ve had the good fortune to backpack around Patagonia and it really is breathtaking in its scale, culture and beauty. Somehow you didn’t manage to capture the character of the location as well as you did on the nc 500 and Morocco vids.
Lastly, in my limited experience, bikepacking is rarely straight forward so it would be good to focus a bit more on the reality and practicalities of bikepacking rather than just the ride experience.
Still the best cycling channel out there though. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the brilliant content.

Well for one paid for and supported or not, could you do It, so why don’t you pull your head out.
I was referring to the fact that James has suddenly became the whipping boy for GCN due to the fact he did the cornering test, 24 hrs with Beaumont, one hour penny farthing challenge, the red hook critt, that recent climbing challenge with opie and now this multi day 350+km backpacking challenge.
Quite a list of torture testing don’t you think? so when you complete that list, supported and paid for or not because remember this is his daily job so of coarse it’s paid for, let me know, oh and remember, if it ain’t on Strava then it never happened
      ROFL
By the way before you go trying to challenge my torture abilities, I have completed a 250+km ride solo self supported without stores carried on person supplies, had a flat on Canada’s largest highway and still got home in time for dinner with my wife and I do this at least once or even twice in a Canadian road bike season of 8 months if you brave some of the cold
Also I regularly will do a 10,000 calorie workout challenge, by the way I run bike swim all in on day too also used to way 307 lbs and have lost nearly half

Been deep diving on GCN lately when not indulging in the "pain cave" and sneaking out on rides when the early spring weather allows here. I'm thoroughly enjoying Mark Beaumont's contributions. Love this Patagonia adventure - its been on my list for awahile now. It would be great to add this to the area around Bariloche to Puerto Mont a little further south as well. Just finished watching his Ultra Endurance Tips on his recent ride with Simon on the North Coast 500. Having recently completed a Trans Continental myself whereby I rode over 11,000km on 4 separate tours (1991, 1992, 2015, 2018) self supported meandering across Canada (on the same Scott Santa Cruz BTW), I was fascinated to agree and recognize many strategies I employed but also picked up a few new ones for my next grand tour once the madness of this virus passes. Thanks for that!
I want to make a suggestion if it hasn't already been done. I think we need to add something to the cycling lexicon. A "Beaumont" (noun) - the name given to riding a distance of 240 miles in a day; akin to a "Century" (100 miles). A "proper Beaumont" is completing it in a period of 16 hours akin to his around the world schedule. A "half Beaumont" constitutes 120 miles. You can also make this into a verb where you can apply it to anything in cycling that is initially kinda of fun and then figuring out the most impossible challenge with it ie Hour Record on a Penny Farthing. Example : He/She is really "Beaumonting that right now.
After a few too many glasses of wine recently I decided - out loud - to commit to do my first "Beaumont" this summer. Let the masochism begin...

I'm looking at do the NC 500 guys this year, although with this virus going around the world it might have to wait... i did a 6 day bike packing trip last year on fat bikes, but damaged my knee due to the cleat being slight misaligned, and basically put me out of action for the rest of the year..
Now I get my first Vitus VRS-2 2X11 GRX 600 with 650b wheels gravel bike this week, Chainreaction cycles are sending it out to me to build as they've not got the staff to cope with the bikes... nowt like building your own bike 😉👍
