Watermaker & Washing Machine were #1 priorities for me. I made Ricky wash our laundry by hand once and he was like yup... we're putting in a washing machine 😂and having nice longer showers are just such a good morale booster when you have the extra water to spare with the water maker!
Sailing Lady Africa I agree, it’s nice to not have to conserve water as much. It definitely helps your morale like you said when you can get clean! I knew we couldn’t get a watermaker or a laundry machine when we first got the boat so my first request was a comfortable bed and a shower that was separate from the toilet. Lol

How is she doing the pee&poo thing? How did you train her? How much extra work is Arya with all the boat stuff (and baby stuff) already going on?
Mirrors are great for creating the illusion of more space in heads and in cabins. Of course your budget has a huge impact on the type of female that’s going to be comfortable on board!! Thanks for sharing!
All good suggestions that'll have to come after all the other stuff that makes a man want to go sailing - fishing gear, new sails, furlers, safety gear, pots, life raft, good rigging all around, proper electronics, correct anchor, and so on and on, but that mattress, oh yeah, that's a must get right away. Hello Ryan and Jessica. So sorry we missed you at George Town. We were there for some time, now making our way north back home to FL. Would of loved to meet up again. Make sure you get to Long Island...it is so worth the visit. Conception Island is also very amazing for its natural beauty. We enjoyed the sooty tern and brown noddy birds that are there. Along with a lot of sea life including the green turtle. It is a national park. This is the crew of Sunny Skye if you recall. We meet several years ago at Saint Augustine at the boat yard. It would of been a treat to meet your daughter. When we met, she was just at the first stages of her beginning. To support your view, we have discovered that for both of us, a woman and a man, the number one item is a caterman. 90% of life on the water is on anchor and nothing beats a caterman on water (power cat or sailing both make a huge difference on anchor). Number two is a water marker, number three is ridged solar panels and a good capacity generator for electric needs, and number four is a washer and dryer. These three items make the biggest impact on comfort for our cruising experience.

We skipped some of the islands you mention but are sorta saving them for the next time we come back through. We're in the DR now waiting for a window to keep going to PR and the VI's and beyond! Are for the live-aboard amenities, agreed, before we go to the pacific we want to double our solar and get a much better watermaker. I think that would go a long way to improving our standard of living while cruising. Enjoy your trip back north!
My wife and I are about a year and a half away from buying our boat to cruise and my wife is pretty adamant about not getting a Cat. She says it doesn't feel like a home when our daughter is in another hull, but her biggest thing is that Cat kitchens suck. We're looking at a Jeanneau 51 or 53 and their kitchens are luxurious compared to a Lagoon.
Basically: Do you want a condo that you happen to sail (catamaran), or a sailboat that you happen to live on (monohull). I prefer the latter (which is probably why I'm single), but by all means you're right that many many people these days prefer the former.
I see you left “Get Her on Board” by Nick O’Kelly off your book list the last episode.... You definitely took some of his things and added in Jessica’s needs and wants!
I'm one of the lucky ones.... I've seen my wife of 23 year use a hair drier less then 10 times and she has used a flat iron maybe 30 times in same time frame. She LOVES to camp so most of our vacation are going to some remote part of the US and tent camping .

Make it clear that these are the rules. It will settle all disputes and differences of opinion. This does not mean that you do not consider her needs and wants. Absolutely you do and make decisions accordingly as you see fit. Just make sure these rules are understood first. No. 1 rule. The boat is mine. No. 2. I am the captain. No. 3 If there is any dispute about where we go , what we spend and who is steering, reference rules 1 and 2. This will solve 99% of disputes. And there will be disputes, count on it.
Nice tips for cruisers, thank you. Cats are much more expensive in marinas. Owners of liveaboard cats are paying almost double to have the luxury. Not to mention two engines, two everything for maintenance.... Me and my wife don't need all that space and luxury but are envious until the bill comes due. 😂

geebus, if ya got all that stuff, just frickin stay home. women, for the most part need to quit being so gdam spoiled. My wife and I have a great time on our cruiser without 90 percent of that stuff. Get a new woman who has a sense of adventure.
There are always exceptions and shade of gray, but a theory is that the traditional tribal gender roles had the women as home makers and the men as warriors and hunters. It’s sort of built into men to go out an rough it while adventuring. And built into women to want a safe home. The two making a nice yin and yang. Sailing tends to be portrayed as rough adventuring and at times it is. But that’s not what the average woman is built to look for in adventure. There needs to be an element of a “safe home” for many woman. Now yes I’m sure there are scenarios where it’s flipped. Nature loves variety, but also has tendencies. Dunno, just a theory!

If you're going to live aboard( 40 ft +)...a washing machine and watermaker are a must..regardless of whether you are male or female.

El Matador Monohulls are definitely more affordable. Although we have found many marinas where they don’t charge extra for being a catamaran.
