Thanks, Jane, That is the crazy thing about the wonderful world of gemstones, I feel like I learn something new every time I visit a mine or talk to some of my miners and manufacturers. So fun!

Hello Paul, still watching... I sometimes see people offer jewelry and call it labradorite abalone. Is that a correct term is that a real Abalone or a real labradorite or is it just that they're referring to the labradorescence? Thank you I love the episode on the comments

That is a new one to me. That is definitely a misnomer. Abalone and Labradorite are 2 completely different gems. Abalone is a shell mollusk and can have some coloration similar to that of labradorite. That said, they are to completely different gems.

Kindly explain the difference between canadian and madagascar labradorite?

That is a great question. The short answer is that there isn't a huge difference. In the two. The 3 most notable sources are Canada (Labrador), Madagascar, and Finland. Most people refer to the Finland material as "Spectrolite" due to its brilliant labrador essence. At the end of the day, all three sources can produce spectacular specimens. Remember, while some people try to convince you that where a gem comes from means a lot-like Burmese rubies or Kashmir Sapphires. While sometimes people will pay a premium for that name, The most important are the 4 c's. Color, Cut, Clarity, and Carat weight. With colored gemstones, Color is king!
