Hi Paul, I was wondering why some gems have upper size limits while others seem to come in massive sizes. Like beryl's can be massive and stones like alexandrite seem to be around a carat after being cut at most.

do you know of any scientific evidence to support many of the metaphysical properties of gemstones? It's weird but when I think of making jewelry out of gemstone beads, I'm worried I'm pairing them incorrectly. I brought this up to Dr. Ronald Hoffman, a very well known integrative physician and he said he has very smart friends who do do not dismiss crystal theory. I'm looking for guidelines when combining gems.

Okay UDLTUBE, You pose another very interesting question. There are some who believe very strongly in the power of crystals, and others believe it is utter nonsense. I fall somewhere in-between those diverse points of view. I think it is arrogant for we mere mortals to assume that crystals, which have been around for billions of years, couldn't have some power or another. There are measurable vibrations in many things in nature, including gemstones. Also, certain gems have interesting properties like magnetism or even used as remedies when crushed and consumed. Even in the earliest days of amber gemstones people would marvel at the mysterious powers of the gem. If you would rub it with a cloth. it would attract lighter objects like small bits of paper or feathers. This is known to be caused by static electricity.
I used to visit a metaphysical booth in the Tucson Gem shows run by David Geiger. It was always fascInating. In certain crystals, you could really feel the energy of the gem. Then there are the perfect flawless crystal spheres where when the sun passes through the crystal, it can literally start a fire. On the other hand, I have never had much of a belief in the typical folklore and legends on stones. Amethyst helps to prevent drunkeness? Not a chance. Having a garnet garnet could save you from death or repel bullets? Are you willing to take that chance?
Do you need to "pair" a couple of gems together. Do some gems like each other? Do others not get along too well? I doubt that.
Do I feel that I have gems that I am attracted to more than others? Definitely! I have often asked the question to my followers that when you are attracted to a gemstone, did you pick the gemstone? Or did the gem pick you? I kinda think that my favorite gems did call out to me on some level. But I doubt a metaphysical gem expert could do it for me.
Longwinded answer, but definitely from the heart. That is what I believe.
