Highlands are wonderful creatures. Every single one I've met has been a sweetheart. They are also unbelievably soft if they are taken care of. My friend had a bull she would show in 4-H. Her family had a variety on their farm, and she could have shown nearly anything she wanted. That being said, she adored her Highland bull. He was absolutely spoiled rotten! He loved being pet and brushed. He felt like a brand new million dollar shag carpet. He had zero size awareness though and thought he was a lap-dog. My friend had to let him follow her around doing chores or else he would throw a fit. He was a hilarious creature. He lived for a long long time too. I'm pretty sure he passed from old age. He was an old boy for sure and had a wonderful life. He sure changed my perspective at a young age. I had assumed ALL cows were lacking in the brain department. I had a Holstein that was... Well... Not so smart. That Highland bull however, was very smart. It was a great eye-opener. The females they had were all sweeties too, but he was something else...
@@uwuest1793 That's pretty basic knowledge, IMO. Cows have few front teeth on their lower jaw, but not any on their upper jaw. There's also an large gap between those few front teeth and molars, so you can easily fit your arm in that gap without getting actually bitten. I've done that few times and the only damage I got was getting my arm slimed up with saliva. 😁

Cows are an absolute blessing. They are some of the most curious animals I've ever encountered. When being with the owner one can be sure they will come over and ask for pets and attention. That all depends on the breed of cow, honestly. I grew up on a ranch of over 600 cows, and around the Limousin, you definitely had to keep your wits about you. A few times the "mean ones" would get out (not uncommon as cows are large and sometimes tear up fences) and instead of simply going back to where they came from when we tried to move them on foot, they would charge us. Everyone in my family (aside from me, I'm pretty fast) has been trampled at least once. Some cows if you step foot into their pasture will paw and snort at the ground, bellering and slobbering. If you've never seen an angry cow . . . it is a terrifying sight. I've also shown quite a few cows, and some of them would still ask for pets and a treat out in the pasture. However, the general consensus is - do not trust any cow that you do not know well, that's how people get hurt. If you have access to cattle, whether it be the neighbor's or family member, don't go out into their field expecting them to come up to you and be friendly. @@janerickallado8881 You know, I used to ask myself that as a kid: why do people not ride cows instead of horses ? Well, the issue is pretty simple actually: they're too hard to put horseshoes (cowshoes) on, so they'd damage their hooves too much.
Hundreds of years ago these cattle, bred and reared in the the Highlands of Northern Scotland, were walked south to the huge cattle market , the Tryst, which was held each year. The journey took the drovers weeks and assisting them were their dogs, Bearded Collies. These dogs are as cute and shaggy as the cattle. They have a thick undercoat that insulates from cold and sun, and a top coat of long course hair that rain runs off. Like the cattle they are very smart and the farmers and drovers could send them off alone to round up cattle in far off mountain valleys. Wonderful animals.

"Weighs up to 2000 pounds" "Good pets" I'm not sure you should keep something as a pet that needs a tonne of space and weighs over 10x as much as the average human
Lol just like how they're 6 feet tall and came to the UK from Scotland and Ireland in 500 BC. At one point he's even like, "they're known for white markings on their faces," but all of these cows were solid brown.
Our family has a cottage at Baltic sea and in the village where it is there is a Highland cow farmer. One day on our vacation this year we came back from wherever we were(my ADHD just restricted this info sorry) and walked the dogs and they had a baby the same day. Bro was so freshly spawned he was not dried yet and their umbilical cord still hung out. It was kinda disgusting but somehow magical because they were literally the size of my dog(18kg doge but I'm sure the cow weighed more because my dog is very fluffy and the fur adds a lot of chunkyness) and it was amazing. We then went past the farm every day when walking the dogs through the village so we could watch how the kid is doing. At first mf got dry and on the second day their fur was completely dry and really fluffy and on the third day their umbilical cord was gone. Mofo was so fcking cute they are a core memory now.(bro if photos in comments were possible I deadass would dump you on the spot)
I live in the central belt of Scotland and the closest Highland cow is a couple of miles away, he is the grumpiest creature I've ever met. He has massive horns and likes to charge at people. He gives Highland cows a bad name, you have to feed him fistfuls of long grass from the hill to keep him happy. He does like chin scratches but most people are too scared to get that close to him, he usually takes a swipe at you before you can reach it.
As someone who raises Scottish Highlands, they aren't 6ft tall. they're 3.5 to 4 feet tall. They come in red, yellow, white, black, dun, silver (white with black nose) and brindle red with black streaks. They come from two herds the smaller black kyoles from the outer islands and the larger reds from the mainland of scotland. And they are not "pets" they are livestock and should be treated as such. Many people see them as cute and cuddly -- which admitadly they are -- but not potentially dangerous. I've been slammed into gates, kicked, swatted with horns, and pinned by an over protective momma.
I'm glad you added this information. This channel has the most ridiculous comments that are simply not true. I have a real problem with people making stuff up about animals. Some people nowadays are so stupid that they would buy one as a "pet" after listening to this nonsense. And then it's always the animals that pay the price. I'm waiting for his next video that says "lions make good pets", then again in America...😢 Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
I was on a hike and found one of these in a large field near the path I was taking. I walked over to it and it immediately came over to me. It managed to get its horns stuck in the fence, I helped it free itself and spent the next 10 minutes petting it, I turned vegetarian after that encounter.
Cows and 🐂 bulls wouldn't fit in the back of the truck bed if they over 8 to 9 feet long over 2 thousand pounds adult . So maybe baby calf will fit in the back of the truck bed . They are tough to load in the truck . Only cattle trailer works . Yes 6' feet tall from the top head to bottom of the foot . Not very tall . Horses are taller .
Yeah....never seen one of these much taller than 4' . They are not known for their large size, but rather the opposite. They are beautiful and good eating, but not the biggest animals. And for the record, you're supposed to measure them to right above their shoulder.
“Brought to the United Kingdom by Scottish farmers”. Scotland is part of the uk mate. That’s like saying “cows were taken all the way from Texas to the United States”
Biggest bull i seen was on a farm in Somerset. Uk. At brean he was 6"9nd his weight was almost a tone. The farmer was renting him for 20 grand a month back in the early 80s
I had one that the mother abandoned, wasn’t do to I’ll health or anything the mother just freaked out during transport and while being off loaded into our/their pasture got away and took us 6 month’s to catch. (Long story) anyway the baby was weaned but barely and she kept bawling for her mama. It was heartbreaking. I would spend hours out in the barn in the middle of winter with her in my lap just talking to her and petting her. She eventually turned out to be a 1500+ # “playful pet dog” loved to play and interact, play “tag” not kidding. They are truly a special breed of cow especially if handled daily from a young age. Super smart and just plain amazing.
Don't need a barn. A loafing shed is good, or a tarp over & down the sides of arched chicken wire...work well if 6 feet across @ hirn height!!! Hay to eat when no grass. They are foeagers & even eat growing things (weeds) that goats won't eat.

Why not ride it
@@janerickallado8881 You know, I used to ask myself that as a kid: why do people not ride cows instead of horses ? Well, the issue is pretty simple actually: they're too hard to put horseshoes (cowshoes) on, so they'd damage their hooves too much.

They are adorable😊
Hundreds of years ago these cattle, bred and reared in the the Highlands of Northern Scotland, were walked south to the huge cattle market , the Tryst, which was held each year. The journey took the drovers weeks and assisting them were their dogs, Bearded Collies. These dogs are as cute and shaggy as the cattle. They have a thick undercoat that insulates from cold and sun, and a top coat of long course hair that rain runs off. Like the cattle they are very smart and the farmers and drovers could send them off alone to round up cattle in far off mountain valleys. Wonderful animals.

@Fame paved Scotland and Ireland are part of the UK, which didn't exist until 1922.
I am missing the joke. Is it because:
1. Many textbooks use the term “BCE”?
2. Scots and Irish are just both Celts?
3. The Isles were still Briton?

Facts
These baby calves are absolutely the cutest little things I’ve ever seen!
BULL SHIT !
*DIES FROM CUTENESS* ITS TOO CUTE 😩👍
The little black one at the beginning melted my heart.
I was on a hike and found one of these in a large field near the path I was taking. I walked over to it and it immediately came over to me. It managed to get its horns stuck in the fence, I helped it free itself and spent the next 10 minutes petting it, I turned vegetarian after that encounter.
True story.
I was there to draw the interaction.
This made me smile to read.

Nope..,TALL..,, proably more like 8 to 9 ft LONG for a full grown big bull !

Adorable little baby
Me: *"MOOOM!!! MOM! I KNOW WE DON'T HAVE A BARN BUT I KNOW WHAT PET I'LL LOVE FOREVER"*
Don't need a barn. A loafing shed is good, or a tarp over & down the sides of arched chicken wire...work well if 6 feet across @ hirn height!!! Hay to eat when no grass. They are foeagers & even eat growing things (weeds) that goats won't eat.
