Hello Taryl, I like the way you fix the mower. What you did to the Zero turn I did the same thing to a bucket truck that had intermittent cycle issues. Fixed it the same way you did Taryl. I also added three wires that were over a hundred foot long. Boom height is 90 foot. What I would like to know from you is what brand would you suggest to purchase that is used ??? I want to keep the costs on the lower side. Thank you for your time and I enjoy the video show. Keep on doing what you do Taryl. My I suggest you do a few better brands to purchase for the average homeowner Sir.
      Good day Sir. vf

First year I did window ACs I bought for $2 each I was able to buy a Ford Ranger and give away 56 here in New Hampshire. I got a great deal on a 314 Toro/Wheel Horse and you have to check under the belt guard for failure to the drive belt idler plastic pulley bushing. I had a failure on a 520 and had to adapt an oillite bronze bushing to take up the slop. Thanks Toro

Yes, The GT 150 Series is one of many GM/Delphi connector. While many "car" plugs of all brands are "Weather Resistant," coat terminals and body with silicone grease helps make sure any water that gets in can't cause rust for all. Because the seals often "fail" if wires are bend or pulled sideways near the connector body. Or If installed with wires pointing down even with the cover as above, water can sit and wick down thru any seal.

    @mikeabel1292 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Good to see your way Taryl, Thought I would mention my way. If you remove the battery platform (2 bolts) the whole plate comes out really easily and you can install the module from the top with one person. Also as you mention elskins didn't need to remove the gears to disable the parking mechanism, simply take a 10mm and remove what I would call the pawl, It's the part that connects to the module to physically engage/dis-engage the mechanical braking system. It's really easy to remove each 10mm bolt (thread it back in) and let the two arms dangle. push it all day now.
Another thing that makes installing the plastic cover ALOT easier is to un-bolt the solenoid and move it a little bit, which gives you the room to properly install the cover and start the problem bolt, which can be tightened (as you mentioned) through the access hole in the frame.

If they (Toro, or should that be Zoro) can’t even put electric grease on the terminals, what faith do we have in the companies making the new age mower’s getting it right at the factories.

It had no compression. When I turned the flywheel manually, I could feel the piston bump on something.. I pulled the head, and low and behold, there was a carburetor nut, and the flange of the nut was stuck under the intake valve now allowing it to close.. thankfully, by some miracle it didn’t damage anything.. put it all back together, and it ran perfectly.

I own a Time Cutter. I got it used for only $600 and the parking brake was bypassed. I probably would have bought a new module but when I researched it I learned that many people said that they didn't last very long or were defective right out of the box. I decided to replace the module with a universal relay that basically kills everything through the seat switch. I don't have a parking brake but my place is really flat. This is my first Kawasaki powered mower and I really like how it runs and cuts. The only minor issue is that the left hydro is a little bit slow until it warms up and then it's a little faster than the right.

I have a 60" Timecutter Toro and I love it. I love the fact that when I move the handles to get out of the mower I know that the parking brake is going to lock the wheels so I don't have to worry about getting run over. I have the 6-blade mod on it and it cuts great. I'm going to check the connector on my brake and see if it's okay. I'll order another parking brake unit to be ready. BTW, I do not ever wash my mower. I found that with my old Crafstman garden tractor(1993) that the more I washed it the faster It rusted. Now I just air blow my Toro off very well even the blades and deck. I'm going to pull my engine tins to make sure I don't have grass clippings and dirt building up in my engine air flow path so it doesn't cause my engine to overheat. ( That Taryl, he's got me worried, I'm worried Taryl, my engine may overheat. I can't have that cause that's bad, real bad.)😛

Was the mower stored inside like a shed, trailer or insdie a garage? Asking as in my Toro manual is states to not wash that area and it's preferred to not leave outside in an uncovered area. Seems Toro knew their connectors might rot or long time exposure to moister might cause eletrical problems. Great video and thank you for sharing and taking time putting this video together. :)

    Great video.
Having to look for parts like that seems part of my usual evening trying to repair machinery that is to complex for what reason?
Only problem I saw was you disconnected the battery positive first instead of negative first.
It would be interesting to find out who was on the design team, and their experience/qualifications that they brought to this product.

I deal with these type of repairs in the automotive field, I keep all the connectors from harnesses I get from replacements, usually corrosion or Fluffy chewing wires off at the connector. Cut the wires long then you can dissemble the connector and replace the wire and terminal with a solder in wire splice, a lot of times it saves the customer from having to get another component, harness or sensor. Great fix 👍

When I got my new Husqvarna 46" mower, I did some PM work before I used it for the first time. Dielectric greased all the electrical connectors, anti-seized the rear tires, electric pto clutch, bolts for the spindles, and other things to ensure no issues in the future.

Great video. I have one of the time cutters with the tilting seat and the starter solenoid went bad. I know what you mean by a contortionist act to replace it since the solenoid hides under the seat support crossmember and the only way I could access it was by the old flip the wrench on each bolt head face, move the wrench and flip again for another few degrees of movement. Really feel for the two-man nut and bolt action you had to go through.

Just another thing put on for the convenience of not having to pull on a lever to do something....have a friend that has the same concept on his car...how hard is it to pull a lever or press on a pedal to engage a parking brake? In any event, next mower I end up with will not have this feature. Nice job by Tarly on diagnosis and repair in cost efficient way. My tractor would not start one day...had to jump it with screwdriver and or a jump wire to start it....dealer searched all safety switches...finally found it in the 8th safety switch on the thing...how did us older folk survive without them?

I have three Toro zero turns. One has the magic electric brake. I see that the module is $100-150 on line. My main problem has been spindle bearings. I think I'll look at that connector and put some Deoxit on it.
I learned about that brake soon after I got the mower. It threw a belt to a hydro unit and I couldn't tow it until I figured out that the switch had to be in the ON position to release the brake.
I might be tempted to rig a mechanical replacement for that thing if it fails.

You should've able to get the wire seals for the connectors, as it is a GM terminal , and or apply silicone to the back of the harness connector to seal it.

Nice fix Taryl. You would think the engineers at Toro would design this differently. Good to see the old Elkskins. A lot of dealers would charge a fortune to fix this. Taryl has my respect for saving us grass rats some money.

If all your Phillips screwdrivers were magnetized, you could put the screw on it and it would hold--works for all kinds of stuff--like carbs--no more dropped screws, etc. Thank me after you become a believer! Learned this working on electronics in a TV shop years ago. :-) Also, I have a pretty good collection of rare earth magnets out of those modules--it's pressed in to the big gear.

You got me curious, so I had to google Happy as Larry, Taryl. Larry Foley was a prizefighter in Australia in the 1890's. The last fight he fought had a prize of about $150,000 and a newspaper headline in New Zealand had Happy as Larry as the headline, and it just stuck. Me being a "Murican, I never heard of that until today... I go to Taryl Fixes All to get my education in World Culture and small engine repair tips. Thanks, Taryl. I feel co cultured now! Wooo Hooooo!!!
