  • @J05hFontenot

    What kind of wood was that? Also what wattage laser? It seems impossible to cut through that fast. My 80w has to be slowed down to like 10mm/s at 70% power to be able to cut 5mm plywood.

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is 3mm Baltic birch cutting at 34mm/sec on my 100w. If you have to slow down that much and use nigh power like that you probably have something going on. Most of the time symptoms like this are an indication of an alignment issue. The place where alignment is the most crucial is the 3rd mirror at the top of the laser head down to the material. If that is not dead center you will lose a ton of power and if it is hitting the nozzle on the way out of your laser head then you power is diminished even more.

    Thanks for this clear explanation, my longer nano 6w has a extender bed that is only 100x300 I’m going to hopefully cut some 3mm ply to the plans of a boat, the images though are outside that size so I’m guessing at moment that for each sheet I’ll have to make a print with targets then repeat moving each part of the image into the work area, cut and then join up again after, is that how you would do it or do you have a different way to use lightburn to cut patterns that don’t fit the work area?

    The linked printer is an inkjet, not a dye-sub. Wrong link? Instead of adding a black outline, offset (overprint) the colors that are already part of the image. Then when you cut you'll be left with a clean image without a wonky black outline.

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use Adobe illustrator to do design work but this could be done with Inkscape which is free. I export as a pdf file with the registration makes that I made with the file. Then I print and import the same file into lightburn. Lightburn’s print and cut feature will actually scale everything once you have the registration marks selected so you don’t even have to worry about the size or alignment.

    Suggestion from an old screen printer. move your registration marks as far apart as you can. It makes the alignment process more forgiving.

    I've been wanting to do exactly this!!! What's the process of getting the image to the wood? Do you have a video of that?

      I wonder abou this too, how he did that, maybe like this: th-cam.com/video/3UMNDo2OIP4/w-d-xo.html (How To Transfer A Picture To Wood) If You know how it was made in this video- please write me.

      They have UV Jet printers for glass wood and stone but those are pretty pricey like 10k plus

    are you using Lightburn for the sublimation? or how are you transferring it to lightburn so it's the same size from a different software?

    awesome.
    question... it appears you are keeping the lid OPEN while it is cutting. I thought the laser wouldn't light if the lid is open.

    I wanted to engrave some USB-Sticks with a selfmade Jig using this feature. I did everything exactly the same but my engraving was totally off. It wasn't centered on the USB but placed in the lower left corner even tough my file was perfectly centered...
    Do you have any idea what this could have caused?

    Hello! I am attempting to make a jig to hold wooden crab mallets. How do you set up the print/cut with cardboard when the cardboard is lower than the hammers will be? In other words, do I set up the print/cut with the bed at the focus height for the cardboard? What happens when I lower the bed to load the crab hammers in the jig?

    Thanks, I initially was missing a step so my alignment was off. On my version of LightBurn and xTool D1 Pro a third step is needed to make it work. After setting the second target, the Align Output step needs to be selected then it cuts as expected.

    Yeah! But the next step is to automate both halves of the process - especially the calibration step. Doesn't light burn do that yet? Don't forget this feature is a simple button push from the front panel of older units like LaserBox.

    Great video, however, you did not show on you sublimated the image onto the wood surface? I thought sublimation only works on 100% Polyester fabric and Polymer coated substrates. I noticed your head is pretty far away from your material, does that make it harder to cut through thicker boards. I use the cloudray automatic air value to control the air through lightburn, and I want to start using the dried air/cooled air from my compressor for my lasers. also can I ask what brand of tube to run?

    I am using the print and cut feature to cut a piece larger than my bed. When i tell the laser where my registration marks are (1 & 2) it doesn't cut in the correct place. for some reason it shifts slightly. Any idea what would cause this?

    • @NathanBaerreis
      @NathanBaerreis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you checked your red dot alignment? The first time I tried to use registration marks on a passthrough I had the problem that my cutting laser and my alignment laser weren't hitting the same spot.
