I bought the jumbo size bottle so I am now getting to the end of it. The essence is composed of 7 ingredients: galactomyces - the fungus used to make sake, two water retaining moisturizers - butylene glycol and pentylene glycol, water, and three preservatives - sodium benzoate, methylparaben and sorbic acid. Many dermatologists have concluded that this is simply a VERY expensive VERY light moisturizer, where the moisturizing is provided by the two glycols. The addition of Essences helped in my skin care routine. I found a few products that are effective at less than half the price of SK II; they are Missha Time Revolution Essence (Intense) ($30) and COSRX - Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence ($19). I use them as the next step after cleansing. My skin is plump, hydrated, and skin tone has improved. Both contain niacinamide which helps with skin tone. Although not an essence with Pitera, Hada Labo makes a Whitening Lotion with Arbutin and hyaluronic acid, it sells for $18.
About a year ago I purchased this essence at Costco for considerably less than I’ve seen it anywhere else. I’m nearly finished with the bottle and I’m delighted with the performance of this product. As a test, I have rubbed the excess on my left arm, the arm with the most brown spots and sun damage, each time I apply it to my face. I’m amazed at how the spots and sun damage have improved compared to my untreated right arm! I’m so pleased with the improvement in my complexion that, despite the price, I cannot imagine not continuing to use it daily.
I was skeptical with SKII essence because of the price. I broke down and bought it. And that was 3 years ago. It is still in my nightly routine. My favorite. My face is so much brighter.
I've used the SKII Essence for 2 years and noticed a visible difference in my skin. The texture was much softer and it definitely looked brighter and clearer with a glow. I switched for a few months to the AmorePacific Vintage Single Extract Essence (equally as pricey and which many people prefer) but didn't see any changesin my skin. I have heard that COSRX has a great essence that is much less expensive.
I have used sk2 for over a decade. I've occasionally tried other skin care lines because of the price, but I always come back. All I can say is, I used to have red, scaly bits around my nose and between brows, and redness and unevenness on the skin. I started using the essence and one of their moisturuzers (cellumination, which they no longer make) and it absolutely cleared up the flakiness and evened out skin tone. I don't care how much people make fun of me for spending the money, it has really worked for me. I will never forget, after using the line for maybe a year or so, and One Day my mother, may she rest in peace, said, what are you using on your skin it looks so great! I'd have to agree although I've only been using it since December 2020 and it has made a MAJOR difference in my skin tone, texture and moisture. Just like Lisa said, I have seen my dark patches (hyperpigmentation) lighten up considerably almost to the point of disappearing. SK II has really helped my skin look younger, fresher and all around better.
Love this Essence. I also spray my face with pure rose water. There are many ways to splurge on great products and also go organic and affordable ... Love using what works individually. SK is definitely part of my routine. A beautiful staple!
This has been my favorite skin care item for two years. I can tell a big difference. Just repurchased at Sephora sale. I pat it on my face then leftover on back of hands.
Try Costco! Sephora is still more expensive. Costco is cheaper! I think you can only get it online. I emailed SK-II a while ago and they mentioned that Costco had it!

Anne Schmalz That’s just marketing. Pitera is nothing more than the “brand name” for galactomyces ferment, exactly the same ingredient as in COSRX and Secret Key to name just 2.

I don’t know about other people but I love that it makes my oily nose area not so oily. For me it feels like it tightens the area I apply it and it’s very light and refreshing. I got the 330ml bottle at Costco and hope they carry it for a long time so I can pay less than at a retail store.

I have tried this too and I really like it but it is just so darn expensive. I tried this and also the Tatcha one but I don't feel they justify the price. I still like the one from Fresh with Black Tea and Cambucha, which feels soo nice on the skin and is at a far better price point. A small bottle of SK ll is 100 CHF which is just far beyond my pain limit 😊
I loved using this essence for a few years until I couldn’t afford to keep doing so. I’m sure this essence doesn’t work for everyone, but it helped me in the sense that it helped my following skincare to absorb better into my skin afterwards, more even skin and actually helped kept my acne at bay. Recently became pregnant with my 2nd, so went with Tatcha’s essence for safer ingredients and works similarly to SKII’s. I love these essences for my skincare to absorb better and for some moisturizing. Appreciate hearing about your own experience with SKII! Also if anyone has Costco membership, you can get a giant pump bottle of this for a decent price!
Just my two cents. Ingredients in SKII might be available in other products, BUT formulations and percentages of the ingredients are critical to produce the best results. What we pay for in SKII is the consistency in results for majority of the people (my guess is that they have been around for so long, they know the optimal dosages for each ingredients that suit majority of buyers). However, different skin types react differently to products (that's why there are so many in the market), so the best way is to just try out different ones within your means and continue with the ones that give you the best results rather than just cancel a particular brand because of the price (:
I used to get breakouts from SK-II when I used it when I'm 19. Now when I'm 29, my skin loves it so much, I guess my skin is changing as I aged. I can see how much it changed my skin, but the trick is always always always pair up with the toner, don't use it with other toner. It won't work, at least for me. =D
And, I also noticed if I use their toner along with this essence, it’s even more effective. I have not used their toner in a while, the cost of both..... I can’t do both. But you should try their toner and this
Using an essence has made the biggest difference on my face, I find it really adds moisture and allows the other products perform better. I use an another Japanese brand’s, Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich toner (it’s an essence - not a toner don’t know why they have it in the name.). I love that stuff for my dry, mature skin. I usually layer it 2-3 layers, before adding other skincare.
I pulled the trigger on an essence for the first time - Amorepacific in this Sephora sale (per Stephanie Marie reco). I have high hopes even though I've heard Missha has a much cheaper essence. I'm kinda over doing the blanket denial that everything that's ridiculously expensive is a rip off. I think that's because of trusted beauty content creators like you doing the road tests for us. Hi Lisa, I’ve been using the Tatcha Essence and can honestly say that I haven’t noticed a difference in my skin since using it every morning, I purchased it over in Hawaii last September and the same thing it lasts forever, I only use a few drops of it the same way you use this one, maybe I should try this one once out of Isolation, on a side note, I replied to Paul’s email because I just thought that you did what you did for everyone, until you mentioned it to me, I felt Bad, and sent him off an email to Thank Him Very Much, which he received and responded, I didn’t know whether he would get it or not, Your The Best...Love You like a daughter. Just put it in a plastic or glass spray bottle and then spray your face. You won't waste any of it. Just a thought. Jean. PS.. try pixie glow tonic, a tried and true fave.
I only tried the SK because a sales lady put in on my hands in Sephora and I loved it, however I didn't buy it because I have been using La Mer essence and all things La Mer. There essence did not disappoint. My skin is very hydrated with La Mer, but it doesn't dry down like the SK and when I did a home peel and put it on after Wooh did it burn. There Creme d la Mer mosturizer is the #1 in my book. There foundation is the #1 in my book. In fact, every time I use it, I get a compliment and everyone wants to know what I have on my face. I have purchased the oil. A drop or two of their facial oil makes any foundation look incredible. I have yet to find others. At 48, I do have mature dry skin, so might not work for everyone as good as it does with me.

It worked for me. As someone with bad skin after 4 months of using it I had skin like a Kpop idol. Friends would randomly say that I look different as a compliment. Stopped using it because it is so expensive...I tried the dupes but it was not the same....I just got it again because I miss having skin like a Kpop idol.
I use this. I love it. I've tried cheaper ones but I like this one the best followed by Fresh, Amorepacific, honorable mention to Cosx (however you spell that). My large bottle lasted 9 months.

I just noticed that if you spend $500 on qualifying products at Costco using their credit card, you get $100 back. Anyway, the big bottle is enough to divide amongst friends who want to try it. Being an Asian I use essence after I use the tone. SK-II is a great essence but I think over priced. I use Korean beauty essence and is or as effective as SK-II but affordable. Fresh kombucha facial essence is also awesome. I alternate between brands. I never gone dry on my skin. I get mine in Japan duty free airport when my husband does his business travel:)

Even if I could afford , I think I'd pass on this one. There's a few similar products without the price tag. There's some harsh toxic chemicals in skII also. We need more natural clean based products. Jean.
I have try this product and it's amazing. Surely it's not an overnight process... We have to be patient. I also try some essence with similar claimed like Mi**ha but nothing feel as good.
By any chance do you know what I can use on my eyelids to help with dry peeling skin? Not sure if the urban decay eye primer is causing this. What's happening. So far everything I've tried to use to moisture my eye skin has caused my eyes to be blurry the next day.
As a super cheap person I went back to this essence. I tried it about 5 years ago and it gave me amazing skin. I had acne, large pores and textured skin. I decided to invest in my skin and had some pricy products with some cheaper Korean products. It transformed my skin into Kpop skin. But then I went back to school and couldn't afford it anymore. My skin lost the Kpop look...I just got the SK-II essence again because I miss having nice skin. I say try the dupes first, sadly my skin is a spoiled brat that likes the pricy SK-II essence.
I have ordered this essence but have a question about using vitamin c serum after applying the essence. I know try ere are ingredients to avoid when using vitamin c. Can you use the vitamin c along with this essence?

I got suckered into spending $800 on line 🤦🏽♀️ ( Very good and convincing sales woman) literally did nothing for my skin. That was a couple years ago. Then I discover cosrx while looking for a cruelty free brand ( except for snails) and the ordinary. I’m so glad I did because it’s been so good for the health of my skin and their price points are ten times better. Plus SK does testing on animals :(. Also I still have two of the bottles with a lot of unused product in them.
Unfortunately I used this for over a year and it showed no difference on my skin. If anyone wants to try something try the Secret Key...it has almost the exact ingredients and it's less that half the price!

Great question! It was instructed to apply from the hands to me, but I wasn't sure why not a cotton, I think it likely absorbs a lot of the product and for best results your hand straight to face would be my guess.
Lisa J I’ve always heard a few drops in the palm of your hands. Maybe it’s the heat from your hands, I’m too clumsy so I use a cotton pad. Also you don’t go through it as fast when you do the drops. I’ve heard people say to put your moisturizer on before your skin drys from cleansing so using a soaked pad with this feels good.
Anne Schmalz Well, if you have the money to soak a cotton pad and drench your face, then that’s your choice. I love this one product and I indulge myself. I was on a site last night, can’t remember which one but the directions said to pour on cotton pad.
Whoever told you that this is the only product that uses the Pitera as an active ingredient gave you incorrect information. You might want to update this video and correct that.

There are less expensive alternatives with the same ingredient, including Secret Key, that cost a fraction of this and have better formulas.

I loved using this essence for a few years until I couldn’t afford to keep doing so. I’m sure this essence doesn’t work for everyone, but it helped me in the sense that it helped my following skincare to absorb better into my skin afterwards, more even skin and actually helped kept my acne at bay. Recently became pregnant with my 2nd, so went with Tatcha’s essence for safer ingredients and works similarly to SKII’s. I love these essences for my skincare to absorb better and for some moisturizing. Appreciate hearing about your own experience with SKII! Also if anyone has Costco membership, you can get a giant pump bottle of this for a decent price!

Just my two cents. Ingredients in SKII might be available in other products, BUT formulations and percentages of the ingredients are critical to produce the best results. What we pay for in SKII is the consistency in results for majority of the people (my guess is that they have been around for so long, they know the optimal dosages for each ingredients that suit majority of buyers). However, different skin types react differently to products (that's why there are so many in the market), so the best way is to just try out different ones within your means and continue with the ones that give you the best results rather than just cancel a particular brand because of the price (:
I used to get breakouts from SK-II when I used it when I'm 19. Now when I'm 29, my skin loves it so much, I guess my skin is changing as I aged. I can see how much it changed my skin, but the trick is always always always pair up with the toner, don't use it with other toner. It won't work, at least for me. =D

Using an essence has made the biggest difference on my face, I find it really adds moisture and allows the other products perform better. I use an another Japanese brand’s, Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich toner (it’s an essence - not a toner don’t know why they have it in the name.). I love that stuff for my dry, mature skin. I usually layer it 2-3 layers, before adding other skincare.

I pulled the trigger on an essence for the first time - Amorepacific in this Sephora sale (per Stephanie Marie reco). I have high hopes even though I've heard Missha has a much cheaper essence. I'm kinda over doing the blanket denial that everything that's ridiculously expensive is a rip off. I think that's because of trusted beauty content creators like you doing the road tests for us. Hi Lisa, I’ve been using the Tatcha Essence and can honestly say that I haven’t noticed a difference in my skin since using it every morning, I purchased it over in Hawaii last September and the same thing it lasts forever, I only use a few drops of it the same way you use this one, maybe I should try this one once out of Isolation, on a side note, I replied to Paul’s email because I just thought that you did what you did for everyone, until you mentioned it to me, I felt Bad, and sent him off an email to Thank Him Very Much, which he received and responded, I didn’t know whether he would get it or not, Your The Best...Love You like a daughter. I only tried the SK because a sales lady put in on my hands in Sephora and I loved it, however I didn't buy it because I have been using La Mer essence and all things La Mer. There essence did not disappoint. My skin is very hydrated with La Mer, but it doesn't dry down like the SK and when I did a home peel and put it on after Wooh did it burn. There Creme d la Mer mosturizer is the #1 in my book. There foundation is the #1 in my book. In fact, every time I use it, I get a compliment and everyone wants to know what I have on my face. I have purchased the oil. A drop or two of their facial oil makes any foundation look incredible. I have yet to find others. At 48, I do have mature dry skin, so might not work for everyone as good as it does with me.

This is the most useless skincare product for me,just a waste of money.I don’t get the hype of it
It worked for me. As someone with bad skin after 4 months of using it I had skin like a Kpop idol. Friends would randomly say that I look different as a compliment. Stopped using it because it is so expensive...I tried the dupes but it was not the same....I just got it again because I miss having skin like a Kpop idol.
I use this. I love it. I've tried cheaper ones but I like this one the best followed by Fresh, Amorepacific, honorable mention to Cosx (however you spell that).
My large bottle lasted 9 months.
Your skin looks incredible and extra radiant. I’d be interested in trying it but the price point is a concern for me right now during these uncertain times. I would love to try this item but it would cause a divorce as my husband says I buy too many items for this old face!! I wish there was a more economical choice, truly. I have been using a similar product I found on Amazon several months ago and just don't see the benefit, darn. Have you heard of DHC's Crystal Essence?

Yes, they are highly concentrated , they add moisture and absorb really quickly in the skin.

I also promote a fair amount of drugstore products as well. I try and provide content and products for all budgets.

For Asians, this thing works. I use it once a day, before going to bed. I've been using it for 2 months and noticed some changes to my skin. The bottle will probably last me a year so I'll have no problem buying it again.

I still have a lot of questions, and I’m still really confused about about a lot of it.. what do use, what not to use, what ingredients will go well together...getting the most for my money.. not overspending... anyway, are all essence work in the same way? Lisa, I have heard that the SKII essence has alcohol listed in their ingredients that is considered a bad alcohol. Is this true? What hydrating SPF would you recommend? Thank you.

Being an Asian I use essence after I use the tone. SK-II is a great essence but I think over priced. I use Korean beauty essence and is or as effective as SK-II but affordable. Fresh kombucha facial essence is also awesome. I alternate between brands. I never gone dry on my skin. I get mine in Japan duty free airport when my husband does his business travel:)

Even if I could afford , I think I'd pass on this one. There's a few similar products without the price tag. There's some harsh toxic chemicals in skII also. We need more natural clean based products. Jean.
I have try this product and it's amazing. Surely it's not an overnight process... We have to be patient. I also try some essence with similar claimed like Mi**ha but nothing feel as good.

By any chance do you know what I can use on my eyelids to help with dry peeling skin? Not sure if the urban decay eye primer is causing this. What's happening. So far everything I've tried to use to moisture my eye skin has caused my eyes to be blurry the next day.

As a super cheap person I went back to this essence. I tried it about 5 years ago and it gave me amazing skin. I had acne, large pores and textured skin. I decided to invest in my skin and had some pricy products with some cheaper Korean products. It transformed my skin into Kpop skin. But then I went back to school and couldn't afford it anymore. My skin lost the Kpop look...I just got the SK-II essence again because I miss having nice skin. I say try the dupes first, sadly my skin is a spoiled brat that likes the pricy SK-II essence.
I have ordered this essence but have a question about using vitamin c serum after applying the essence. I know try ere are ingredients to avoid when using vitamin c. Can you use the vitamin c along with this essence?

If you were going to choose between the SK II essence and the P50 which would you choose. I have extremely oily skin.
I would say the P50 lotion. They are so different its hard to compare, but the P50 will help more with oil control. ;)
I got suckered into spending $800 on line 🤦🏽♀️ ( Very good and convincing sales woman) literally did nothing for my skin. That was a couple years ago. Then I discover cosrx while looking for a cruelty free brand ( except for snails) and the ordinary. I’m so glad I did because it’s been so good for the health of my skin and their price points are ten times better. Plus SK does testing on animals :(. Also I still have two of the bottles with a lot of unused product in them.
If I use curology acne treatment how will I incorporate that into the routine
Unfortunately I used this for over a year and it showed no difference on my skin. If anyone wants to try something try the Secret Key...it has almost the exact ingredients and it's less that half the price!

I've watched dozens of videos looking for one which has some wisdom about which oil to use to mix in with my foundation. I can't find a single one. Anyone have a suggestion? I want to find a video which is *not made by someone advertising something they are profiting from in some way.
Why not on a cotton a square? I’ve used this and the Toner for several years?
Great question! It was instructed to apply from the hands to me, but I wasn't sure why not a cotton, I think it likely absorbs a lot of the product and for best results your hand straight to face would be my guess.
Lisa J I’ve always heard a few drops in the palm of your hands. Maybe it’s the heat from your hands, I’m too clumsy so I use a cotton pad. Also you don’t go through it as fast when you do the drops. I’ve heard people say to put your moisturizer on before your skin drys from cleansing so using a soaked pad with this feels good.
Because the pad will soak up product.
Anne Schmalz Well, if you have the money to soak a cotton pad and drench your face, then that’s your choice. I love this one product and I indulge myself. I was on a site last night, can’t remember which one but the directions said to pour on cotton pad.

I put a spray mister pump top on my bottle and spritz it on my face.

I’m not a content creator, but even I can clearly see the points the brand wanted you to hit in your video. I’ve watched a dozen videos about this specific essence and they are all practically cut and paste. 🤷🏻♀️
I bought into the hype, went through a huge bottle and used it religiously. I saw no results whatsoever. Such a bummer because it was super expensive.
