I think they were gonna call it ‘New Adventures with Princess Tiana’ but maybe that was just a temporary name.
I still don’t understand how they’re gonna do it. So will they keep it in critter country or expand New Orleans square? But if that happens, what’s gonna happen with Pooh?

First of all, to all those comments in the comment section, Splash Mountain isn’t racist, nor is Song of the South. The people who call Song of the South racist should really watch the movie because while it is culturally inaccurate at times, it is NOT racist. Second of all, to those who say that it will be the same ride, just without the theming and animatronics, the drop isn’t what made Splash Mountain so iconic and beloved, but rather the great characters, beautiful sets, and wonderful songs! Now those who want the retheme, that’s fine, I’m not arguing with you. All I’m saying is that before you go around calling Song of the South and the characters of Splash Mountain racist, do your research. Maybe then you will realize this ride was just a truly innocent and beloved attraction for families to enjoy.

Did you notice that it has been completely refurbished and cleaned up? Even the animatronics have been repaired and updated.
Seems like a waste if they're just gonna retheme the whole thing.
They might even reuse some of the refurbished ones. Who knows?
The proposal put forth last year is to remove all the animatronics and make it a projector/screen based attraction to save operating costs.

I’m going to try my best to ride it one more time before they change it! I don’t agree with the change but oh well.
They had so many options of what they could change this ride into...and they chose Princess and the Frog 😐 There aren’t even any mountains in Louisiana! The Jungle Book would have been amazing. At least there’s cliffs and waterfalls in India. There’s more animals in the jungle than the bayou. And it fits in with critter country as opposed to New Orleans square.

If you are for the retheme you probably should stop watching Disney movies and don't go to Disneyland. You will never be satisfied. Oh and just so you are aware, you better start objecting to the 'Princess and the Frog' ride because the movie has negative, insensitive and misunderstood depictions and portrayals of New Orlean voodoo culture.

Going to Splash Mountain always felt like going back home whenever I went to Disneyland. Removing this ride is the equivalent of removing my special space in the Park, and it was also a special place for millions of Disney fans like me--also, banning Zip-a-dee-doo-dah from the parks is pathetic. They might as well ban art because it was one of the greatest Disney songs ever written for a movie (and it won an Academy Award) unlike the mediocre half-baked music from Princess & the Frog which is OKAY but forgettable. I bet they stick in super cheap screens to replace the audio animatronics because they were more expensive. Disneyland will NEVER be the same without Splash Mountain. RIP.
Princess and the frog was really forgettable, they barely promoted it back in 2009, splash mountain references flood the park still to this day, nobody talked about princess and the frog since last year and claimed it was “good” splash mountain is iconic disneyland just like matterhorn or the castle.
@@MRwreckgar The ride was too magical for Disney, which is a corporate shill at this point. It's not about the magic, it's about the money. And I don't even know if it's about that--seems to me like Splash was one of the main draws to the parks.

Splash mountain is so iconic, can’t seeing such a forgettable movie like princess and the frog lasting on a ride, tangled is a way better movie no ride, but at least it got some representation in fantasyland. Seems like they should put more time and effort into the new park expansion they revealed a few weeks ago, forget about the splash refurb and focus on things that actually need to change, splash has been around since the 80’s nobody complained until now, nobody gets off splash mountain and says “hey that ride was racist it needs to change”. So what if the movie isn’t wildly known, it’s the ride that counts not the movie.
@@MRwreckgar plus the animated stories are based on real Black folk tales. Walt Disney would roll over in his grave, as he produced those tales to keep them alive for future generations so that they can fall in love with them the same way he did as a boy.
@@awfawf4546 Exactly, it’s just a disney icon, can’t see princess and the frog fitting in to the new style of disneyland like on merch, or even remember the songs throughout the ride, the music is so forgetable just like the movie. Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is catchy as hell and it made you smile everytime you go down that drop into the briar patch, they might as well turn big thunder into like some sort of wreck it ralph ride idk.
Splash Mountain should not be rethemed. Cancel culture has gone too far. Disney needs to fight back, walt would not retheme this ride

They should keep it as is and build a brand new attraction for Tiana. Turn Tom Sawyer Island into the bayou and have a new ride and a restaurant..already pretty perfect with the River boat there
No matter what tho they need to retheme it because the movie they based the ride on is very racist, they could even double down on Pooh and add in the characters to Splash Mountain

I will never understand the people in this comment section who don't want the Princess and the Frog retheme and are widely defending Splash Mountain and even Song of the South, for some reason. I mean I love Splash Mountain just as much as the next person does, and I'm also kinda bummed out that that specific charm to the ride will be gone, but there could be potential with the Princess and the Frog. It will still be the same log flume ride that everyone loves, and just imagining some songs from the movie being placed in the ride could be a fun experience, along with seeing the animatronics that could be added into the different scenes as you float along in your log flume. This is already getting me excited for the possibilities this new and almost different experience could bring. But ig there are other people out there who are willing to stay in the past than move forward with any big changes to a ride unless that change doesn't apply to them, at which case they're ok with any other change to the park. Acting almost like Disneyland doesn't belong to anyone else but themselves. Oh well, let's see which side prevails.

I have a feeling they will add seat belts, mainly because Princess and the frog is a kids movie and they will want to bring down the height restrictions. It’s kinda surprising the ride still operates without restraints because Magic Kingdom’s has a lap bar. Also I’ve seen people stand up on the ride so that’s why I think they will add seat belts but I’m hoping I’m wrong because it’s a lot more thrilling without them.

Only people who are misguided and who have never seen the movie of what it really is about would think and believe that. You say it will definitely happen, but it does not mean it is true or it will come true. Just like how the Mary Poppins ride was announced to arrive soon, before it got cancelled indefinitely along with some other projects. And so far, there hasn't been a real official update of what happens next for this so-called retheme. Sorry to point this out. What I'm trying to say is, don't get your hopes too high, cause I'm not.

@@matthewjohnston1251 That movie did not take place during Civil War. It was after it. There was no civial war connection. The people were free folks, not slaves. You don't know if things in the ride will be removed. Stop talking like you know what will happen when you don't actually. There has been no updates if it will happen or not. Until real updates or announcement are oficially announced, it's wrong of you to jump to a conclusion that might turn out false.
And another thing. If you really have seen the movie, then you wouldn't wrongly call it racist. Racism means prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. And racist is a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another. The movie has shown none of it. You only misused the word like the real racists and trolls.

Back in November, Josh D'amaro stated that the Splash Mountain refurb will be "fasttracked", meaning it will be done fast and cheap. In my opinion, and to quote Geri from "Toy Story 2, "you can't rush art."

They haven't even confirmed when the design work is going to start. It was excluded from the 2021 budget. Looking like 2022 may not start either.
I have an idea for how we get real original rides at Disneyland! We have to say in some form how I.P.'s are an example of privilege and therefore Disney will bend and build us an ORIGINAL attraction!!
Splash mountain is extremely popular and aside from trying to be more racially sensitive really doesn't need a re theme. If it was a crumbling, aging ride that didn't attract guests ..I would say yes...update it. But seriously guys..its fine as is. Re theme that stupid Winnie the pooh ride..and make the bear restaurant into a Tiana themed restaurant.
I do not want a retheming! The Songs of princess and the frog are as boring as the whole movie. I love Song of the South!
The argument for keeping this around because it's a "classic" doesn't overwrite the offensive context of the source material. "Mein Kampf" is technically a piece of "classic" literature. This isn't as extreme a case, but the same principle applies.
Gosh, have you SEEN Song of the south? You think it’s immediately offensive because some slaves sing in it? Sure it is clearly culturally inaccurate to the times, but it’s a Disney movie, not a documentary. Furthermore, Splash Mountain has zero racist elements in it whatsoever, so how would be getting rid of it fix anything? We don’t want to keep it just because it is a classic. We just don’t see the reason for it to go away.

@@unrellated I’ve actually never been on the ride, so nostalgia isn’t my reason. I want to keep it for the great songs, with zip-a-dee-doo-dah being Disney’s national anthem. I want to keep it for the great characters and setting, both of which are my favorite at Disney. I want to even keep it because of how long it has been at the park and how it deserves to continue to entertain young and old guests for years to come.
The source material was awarded the Coretta Scott King Award for its contribution to African American Culture.

No date is set for it yet. Our guess is possibly sometime next year.
@@TheLostBoysGirls I would say it’s probably more like 2-5 years until it’s done, given how much debt Disney has right now. A full retheme (that isn’t cheaply made) is likely going to take awhile to do.
