  • Hey everyone! I hope you love this one...this cinnamon roll cake is 'from scratch' and it is a real family pleaser. This cake is moist with an added cinnamon swirl throughout and it's topped with a vanilla glaze. It comes together easily and you'll just bake it in a 13x9 inch pan.
    If you want the printable recipe plus more details, make sure to go to the blog post link below. There will also be a button on the recipe card there to switch the measurements to metric if you need that.
    And as always, please remember I'm a real person and like to provide these videos for free to hopefully help others who also love to bake cakes. Please keep your comments polite. :)
    Much love,
    Kara Jane

    I hope you enjoy this one. Let me know if you make it!
    A few responses to some FAQs for this video:
    1. You need a better microphone: Yes, I know the microphone quality is not great. This video is 2 years old and I have upgraded my equipment since then.
    2. You need to list out the whole recipe in the description: Well the link to the printable recipe is in the description. I provide links to my site as it allows me to support myself and my family. Thank you for your understanding and support. The ingredient amounts are also always on the video as well.
    3. You need to provide metric measurements: The printable recipe on my site has a button on the recipe card to convert it to metric measurements.
    4. Can I use something else besides buttermilk? Yes, you can. You do need an acid to counteract the baking soda in this recipe. That’s what the buttermilk does plus it makes a tender cake. You can substitute it but not with plain milk. Here’s what you can do: You need to measure out the cup and a half of plain milk then take out a tablespoon and a half of it and replace that with a tablespoon and a half of either lemon juice or white vinegar then mix it up. That will make a buttermilk substitute. It won’t be exactly the same but it works in a pinch.
    5. Do I have to make the glaze? Nope, you don't have to.
    6. Can I use a hand electric mixer instead of a stand mixer? Yes.
    Hope this helps!

    Easy and delicious! This is the first cake made to fight for the corner pieces because the brown sugar/butter topping pools up around the edges and makes a yummy chewy extra bite. Also my husband and I aren’t too big on glaze, so I made a half recipe and didn’t use all of that; just enough for a pretty drizzle. Perfect for us! Thanks for the recipe.

      Just measure out the cup and a half then take out a tablespoon and a half of the milk and replace that tablespoon and a half with either lemon juice or white vinegar and mix well. Let it set for about five minutes then you can use it. This adds some acid to the milk and is a substitute for buttermilk. It isn’t quite as good but it works in a pinch.

    Is milk okay if I don't have buttermilk for the batter?

    • @IScreamforButtercream
      @IScreamforButtercream  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It really needs to be a more acidic liquid (for the best texture and because of the other ingredients in the cake), so buttermilk is best, but If you can't get it, you can substitute with this sour milk recipe:
      For every one cup of buttermilk called for, fill a measuring cup with 1 cup regular milk, take out 1 tablespoon and replace it with 1 tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar and stir well. Let sit for five minutes, then it's ready to use.
      This will not work exactly the same as buttermilk, but it can work in a pinch and is better than just using plain milk.

      @@ruthworman2733 hi there. If you’re actually curious as to why some us don’t add the entire recipe in the description box, I don’t mind sharing the reason.
      For me, I get paid from ad revenue on my website. There is nothing wrong with that. That’s how I provide for myself and my family. Thats how many website owners provide for their families. It’s generally how we get compensated for all the work. My There is also a button at the top of each post that says ‘jump to recipe’ so hitting that button takes you straight to the printable recipe. You don’t even have to scroll. It’s really a great way to support people who provide videos and recipes for free. Unfortunately TH-cam just doesn’t pay much ad revenue and I wouldn’t be able to do all this for free. That’s why some of us do that. My hope is that most people will understand but if some don’t, then I’m ok with that too.

    The icing doesn't stay looking like that it melts away like you never ever put anything on it . I've made this a few times and my husband wonders why the icing doesn't stay on the cake like a honey bun icing does . 🤔 That's a good question. I haven't tried it as cupcakes, but in theory, I think it could work. I don't know that you'd really need to make any changes. I'd still bake at 350 F but start checking the cupcakes at about 20-25 minutes although you may need to bake a little longer...just not sure. I hope it works. I had an idea to make a cinnamon bun cupcake with a spoonful of apple pie filling in the middle with cream cheese icing for my significant others birthday treats. this recipe looks amazing so ill give it a shot ahead of time to see if it works out.@@IScreamforButtercream

    where did you get that bowl on your KA mixer?

    • @IScreamforButtercream
      @IScreamforButtercream  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought it directly off the KA website. They call it the ‘textured’ ceramic bowl. It’s a little less white than my white mixer so just be aware of that in case the difference would bother you.

    Where do I find that size baking pan? I looked on your website which said I could make it in an 8 x 8 pan or a loaf pan if I double the recipe but that defeats the purpose of making a small batch.

      I baked this in a 13x9 inch glass pan. There should be a link to a baking dish that size under the heading ‘Supplies Used’ in the blog post. These pans can usually be found on Amazon.

    Would it work ok if I use self rising flour instead of ap?

    • @IScreamforButtercream
      @IScreamforButtercream  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Self rising flour already has baking powder in it and AP flour does not. It’s not going to sub out exactly right in this recipe because essentially 3 cups of it would be adding in 3 teaspoons of baking powder and this recipe only calls for 2 teaspoons and also calls for 1 teaspoon of baking soda (which is needed because buttermilk is an acid). If you then went and just added in a teaspoon of baking soda, that would possibly be too much leavening and may have a soapy taste because of too much baking soda. Essentially what I’m saying is it’s not going to be the same if you use self rising flour but if you’d like to experiment using it, feel free to do so but do not add in the baking powder and salt listed in the recipe and probably only add in about 1/4 teaspoon to a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda instead of the full teaspoon. I have not experimented with this though so I can’t tell you if it will turn out.

    Where did you get the mixer bowl from??

    • @IScreamforButtercream

      I got it from the KitchenAid site a few years ago. They have sales from time to time so you can usually just wait until the sale and grab one for a better deal.

    Can we use regular milk than buttermilk ?

    • @IScreamforButtercream
      @IScreamforButtercream  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for asking this. You need an acid to counteract the baking soda.

    I think it needs some pecans or walnuts

      You can definitely add nuts…that would be good. I’m just allergic so I tend to stay away from them as much as I can. 😉

    Pecans, love. Sprinkle a handful of coarse pecans and you get that irresistible Swiss cake. It’s d.i.v.i.n.e by all means. 😮‍💨
    Every time I think to take a break from weight-watching and treat myself to something sweet it comes to my mind. 😍😍
    Ps: You look adorable and pretty much loved your word in the description box but you know? You could be double time cuter in a shorter haircut. I know you probably like to wear it long as you may think it suits your personality best and it does appear that you were oretty careful with how short it was cut but shorter is cuter for you , love with hair decorative pins and yes, pink is the color for you. You are pretty, masha-Allah. 🌸🍃

    Video was nice. Site that had recipe was covered in ads. Perhaps another time.

      Hi there. I try not to have many ads actually. I never turn them on the highest setting, but I do have to make a living so I have to show some. 😊 If you ever want to skip them, feel free to click the ‘jump to recipe’ link right after the first photo and it will bypass the entire post with the FAQs etc. and get straight to the recipe.
