    When you say newer at what sort of age were they improved? Is it both doors?

    Hard to tell exactly where the cracks are showing up. You mention they’re only showing up in one place but the vid seems to show two different cracks: one that you pan to, visible on assembled door; and another crack near a hole in the hinge which looks as though it would not be visible unless disassembled. Could you clarify?

      If you scroll to 2.58 on the video we show a walk up to the area, its the same area on the hinge that cracks, but yes, not easy to film I'm afraid.

    Hi is the new hinge a redesigned one and if so does the new hinge have the issue down the line ?

      It's hard to tell, they look pretty identical and weigh the same so if there are changes it's not easy to see if or how they are improved

      Im baffled why no one engineers new ones from steel they’d make a mint these car are getting to be more affordable now and there will be big market for aftermarket parts as not everyone would afford mclaren route and the hinge seems to only crack one side a gud engineering company surely be able to fab up off the original bracket

    Farmer view, I’d get that welded, off the car obvs. Any reason why not?

      Yes exactly what I was thinking. Decent MiG welder could run a seam over those I’d have thought?…

      It might be repairable by a skilled welder using tig, mig will not be clean enough. You would drill a hole at the end of the crack to prevent it spreading and grind a V along the crack to feed weld material into. I'm assuming its cast aluminium, so your going to have to find the right alloy. It won't be easy and won't be as strong as the original, but could work

      Would hurt resale value. People that are buying prestigious super cars, and want hack repairs.

      @@04dram04 Agree but you wouldn’t see the weld, properly finished and re sprayed who would know.

    Would the Thorney-provided warranty cover this problem John?

    Thanks for this video. I checked my hinges and found the passenger hinge (US Model) did have a crack. The driver hinge seemed to have different mounting flanges (but no cracks). Is that true in the UK and do theses flanges suffer the same cracking?

  • @jesvans

    could the crack be caused by abuse ? = the door being flung or forced open

    • @ThorneyMotorsport
      @ThorneyMotorsport  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible I guess but the incidence of the cracks would suggest design issue

    You actually think that's more impressive than the Koenigsegg hinge? You surely are British..
