    My cunning plan was simple - travel from Brussels Charleroi to Edinburgh, not by direct flight, but using four flights. Things start unravelling at my tightest connection where I have just 2 hours 30 minutes between flights. #ryanair #charleroi

    Mate really well done figuring out an alternative, but even more so by anticipating problems if you'd taken the first flight. That's what I'd call travel smart! Still, any video featuring overnight roughing in an airport deserves a thumbs up!

      Thanks Steve. I was quite relaxed about the whole thing once I'd realised I was stuck at Charleroi. The airport is safe and relatively warm, but my only issue is that when landside, you have to pay to use the toilets. When airside they are free.

    I don't get the snobbery over Ryanair. Honestly it's just a seat on a plane when you're inside it and they're on time more than most.

    • @kolejpolska
      @kolejpolska 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly, I do not understand all those complaints about Ryanair, they're making you able to get to a different country for even eight pounds, that's pennies for that service. And there's always an option to take a more expensive flight with more superior on-board service.
      I have taken one a Ryanair's flight from GDN to WRO for 59PLN which is something around 10 quid. For the return train I have taken an Intercity and that cost me 16 pounds and I've got a delay of 30 minutes because they're were changing the loco for two times.

      It’s not snobbery but the total lack of respect for their customers. If you want to be treated worse than cattle on the way to the slaughter house than by all means spend your money with them. You might have been one of the very lucky few that had a good flight. But wait until you get problems then you will sing a very different tune.

      Yes the worst I've seen them do is to avoid paying refunds for a flight they did an empty plane to that country

      You know exactly what to expect with Ryanair. Stick to the rules and they are fine most of the time. If you don't like the minimalist service, fly with someone else.

      My wife has flown Ryanair 14 times this year for work. No issues with the airline if you are sensible and know what you’re doing, BUT, not once in those 14 times has her flight left on time. Average delay has been an hour.

    Can relate. Gad a flight Jo’Burg to Kuala Lumpur then a : hour wait for flight to Beijing. Arrived Jo’burg at 05:30 for 8am flight. Failed plane broke so another was called in. Finally departed on an aging 747-400 at midnight. Lost my connection to Beijing ended up with a 36 hour wait. Put up in hotel of sorts. A day wandering kuala lumpur. Finally got to Beijing. No hotel as room had been reassigned . Due to a mo show. Hotel apologised so got a suite on 7th floor was more like a large flat! The rest of the floor was occupied by an Arab sheik and his team .

    Once you arrive in Bergamo airport it’s pretty straight forward because it is a reasonably small airport, once you land and you have a connection flight, you go through one door and arrive at all the gates available, no security or queuing required, 10 minute job from landing to gate.(Schengen country to another)

    Interesting film, thanks - I agree completely about thinking on your feet and always having a Plan B or even C! I've only ever missed a flight once and that was in Italy. Returning by train to Rome there was flooding on the tracks. I had the "pleasure" of standing at the closed departure gate and watching my plane backing away for take-off. Air France were good though, the following flight to CDG missed the Edinburgh connection and they put me on the next flight to Glasgow, after I explained that I live about half way between the two airports.

    More than likely you wouldn't have been able to use the transfer area, as Ryanair work point to point, you're not through checked and most airports won't allow you through the transfer area like that.
    Got to hand it to you though, roughing it at the airport all night, that can't be pleasant especially if you don't get any sleep!

    I always like those Ryanair videos to see if you get the middle seat or not! :D
    A few weeks ago I was also flying Ryanair out of Charleroi. My flight was delayed 1,5 hours or so, but this was only communicated just when everyone had boarded the plain. I was pretty certain that they did this, so that you couldn't claim a refund or compensation. After all you were in the plane already! Of course it was miserable and everyone was complaining.
    Interesting thsirt BTW :O

    • @netscapeboy
      @netscapeboy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, this is SOP for Ryanair - even when the know the flight is delayed by two hours they'll try to bluff that it's only 1.45 late to avoid anyone trying to claim their legitimate rights for meals and drinks, they'll then kick you out off the terminal early so they can claim you were "boarding" before the two hours are up - this happened to me in Italy recently.
      There was an elderly lady there who wanted to go to the toilet and with no sign of any plan on the tarmac was told by Ryanair staff that she's have to "wait" until the plan arrived before she could go to the loo!

      Eurostar is often very expensive last-minute, though. And at that time of day, I'm very doubtful he'd made it in time to Brussels-Midi station for the last Eurostar to London (20:55, you have to check in at least 30' before departure). Buf if you have the time and could book in advance, I totally agree, the train is the way to go.

    I liked your black T-shirt in the last part of the video. Greetings from a fan from St.Petersburg (formerly Leningrad)! :-)))

      I get lots of comments about that shirt. It's one of my favourites.

      @@PlanesTrainsEverything I wonder if that shirt was a souvenir from a trip, perhaps?

    3:18 I've been caught out by the nuance of that before. I thought Schengen meant no passport checks, hence no passport needed. In fact, you're still required to carry either a passport or a national ID, even if the authorities don't actually look at it.
    While the immigration authorities may be completely disinterested, I can confirm - following a 100€ taxi dash back home to get my passport - that Finnair do indeed check for a valid document (in my case, travelling from Oulu to Tallinn). Similarly, you're not buying a ferry ticket from Helsinki to Tallinn without one, even though the actual authorities aren't even visible. I don't know why the travel operators are so concerned with this - liability for bringing you back? Is this just a Finnish thing?

    Scott another brilliant video. One small observation and improvement. Can you please stop putting spoiler text on the screen. What you say doesn’t need correcting. Not a criticism just an observation.
