How is literally no one talking about the two major flash scenes? Where he saves people from the rocks and reverses time. To me they are some of the best vfx I've ever seen. So much going on in there.
It would be super cool to have Matt from WETA (or anyone else who worked on the films) back on the couch to discuss the differences between both cut and how they approached it, etc
One thing I've never seen people talk is how Steppenwolf's face look so real. You can see his eye talk and feel the emotions just by looking his face. It looks so good.
Honestly, his eyes threw me off big time. It felt like puppy eyes, too big for the character. Just slightly, but it's there. And If you see him so much, well... I can't unsee it now
The fact that he had actual emotions and a... motivation(!) was so surprising. I don't know if it's face tracking or just fantastic animation, but when Darkseid basically berates him, he looks genuinely... sad. Because all he wants in life is to earn the respect of his idol and be free. I might be misremembering this, but when he has the motherboxes, I can't stop but think that he looked so happy, almost giddy, which is weird to say for a DCEU villain, yet it would fit. Because he has an actual personality.
Alot of it involved resized the face, and making the helmet draw its attention to the eyes, his new eyes are humongous and very easy to read, and his new silouette is very easy to read its overall body language.
Isn't really accurate to a comic standpoint though. In the comics steppenwolf literally does just look like a dude. Now this isn't to say Snyder version doesn't look epic.
@@ogrimzyz8643 agree to disagree. I find the older look better cause the whole point of steppenwolf is for him if he please TO be able to just walk around without anyone thinking he isn't human. I mean there multiple stories where he is on earth trying to be covert rather than explosions and here I am.
I think Barry being gentle with her was more of a fact that, at least story wise, was to make sure he didn’t just snap her neck or spice because he’s moving so fast and would be applying a hell of a lot of force.
I'm not a CGI artist but when I see them talk about something done so well it makes me realise how much effort they put into their work their passion especially the director of a movie with their vision and when I see these guys fall in love this stuff it makes me love it too.
Freddie's point on how the 4:3 aspect ratio emphasized how larger than life the characters were actually bodes true, but mainly for this film. Because one of the major key differences between Marvel and DC is Marvel is about heroes trying to compete with gods whereas DC is about gods living among men.
@@barry2349 he never said marvel has lame characters the big difference between marvel and DC is marvel heroes are trying to become god's or defeat one, well I won't call thanos a god more like demi god. while in DC well they're fighting against real god's, people who were already god's since the beginning Also your clearly underestimating batman for someone whose more famous than Hawkeye who also doesn't have powers . Batman has proven so many times he doesn't need powers to be a hero
@@barry2349 obviously there are exceptions to the idea but in general they are right. DCs heroes are in general more powerful and god-like than that Marvel heroes, and their stories are about their struggles to fit in to a human society. Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl etc are all insanely powerful and their biggest struggles are usuallu fitting in to our world, Superman, Cyborg and Martian Manhunter especially. Marvels heroes are more often than not regular humans with slight advancements and their struggles revolve around fighting incredibly powerful beings. Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon, War Machine, Black Panther etc all apply to that. Obviously there are exceptions to both of those rules, Batman, Robin, Thor, Hulk, etc. But in general, these rules apply
My favorite part is how shortly after that, they misspelled Zack Snyder's last name. Brilliant VFX artists...but still fallible human beings. Magnificent.
Woah I haven't even watched the Snyder cut yet, I had no idea they completely re-did Steppenwolf. He looks so sick in the Snyder cut! His armor is incredible. Weta is so friggin talented
I liked Snyder's version of Steppenwolf, he actually looks alien. I thought the idea of the metal spikes/scales moving with the wind or when he moved was a really cool concept. Kudos to whoever came up with the design. EDIT: the designer is Jerad S. Marantz.
I was literally rewinding scenes to watch Steppenwolf's armor do shit; like when it breaks off the Amazon arrows stuck in him, the spikes moving and reacting to certain actions/scenes. It's like his armor was a separate being with its own mind, similar to Doc Ock's tentacles in Spiderman 2.
Mother box technology...you're right it's sentient. The mother boxes and technology made from the mother boxes are living machines. It's why Blue Beetle and Cyborg have issues from time to time.

@@mattbecker743 Oh come on, I wasn't a fan of any of his movies before ZSJL, but credit where it's due, he seems like a genuinely good person who everybody seemed to enjoy working with. I was actually blown away with how much different the two films were. And the fact I say the two films and mean they are different films is nuts. This was an amazing film.
I still think the best change in the Snyder Cut was the end credits scene of Aquaman aggressively making out with an orca. A little gratuitous but it really rounded out the experience for me.

I find it matching at 11:16 who he says "Zack Snyder is so in love with the human body..." followed by a slow motion shot of Brooke Ence. I appreciate showing all the details, including the trainer for all the amazons. One of the few that is actually so ripped and strong that you do not need to do anything but show here moving in slow motion to make it believable that she is a super human warrior.
I would like to point out one more thing about Steppenwolf’s Snydercut Armor: it conveys more emotion about Steppenwolf. A prime example would be the FaceTime with Darkseid. His armor would retract a bit from his face to his collarbone as he kneels down to him. It conveys more emotion about Steppenwolf’s Loyalty to Darkseid and how he is entirely desperate to return to his side.
Actually, it went to his collarbone when Darkseid first showed up, then as Steppenwolf started kneeling, his armor completely retracted to his waist, leaving him bare-chested. Definitely a sign of reverence.
About Steppenwolf in the Snyder Cut, the cool thing about his armor is that some of the pieces move around like they have a life of their own. It makes his design so much more unique and interesting. Edit: When I made this comment, I forgot to mention that this detail makes him look far more animalistic and almost feral.
@@karnasingh860 not that, but the changes to his original dialogues and his goals are what makes him a good/better villain. The look helps to makes him look like the real threat he is.

There are literally people and my friends who complained that cgi in Snydercut is bad. From what I have heard experts and little of my knowledge the cgi is flawless. It's incredible how much effort they put and that too in a period of 7 months
I know, they just take it for granted (also the music and set-, costumedesign etc. and just want to be entertained) - and don't think about it too much or at all. I have to say that some cgi is good and some is bad, but is mostly good - so oversimplyfied it's good; to me.
You should give Superman a mullet too, he has one when he comes back in the comics, and apparently Snyder wanted to give him one but WB wouldn’t allow it.
@@darkgamersupreme2348 This is true, the mullet would have been too hard to remove, had it not work out. Superman's suit is also colored black in the post, that's easy to reverse to blue.
i just rewatched it after years and i realised that at 13:07 glass does not melt. At such high speeds the stress on the material is so great that it behaves like liquid way beoind material's yield point. Great example is shaped charge. Thats awesome VFX shot
Lois & Clark showed Clark shaving way before the Animated Series did and the comics of the same time showed that he used a piece of metal from his ship to bounce the heat vision back towards his face because the amount of heat needed to burn off his stubble would melt a regular glass mirror, but the metal from his ship could withstand it easily.
The Snyder Cut of Justice League brought back THE main thing that was missing from the Josstice League....emotional impact. Snyder is a master at making me emotional in comic book movies.... and that is a HUGE thing to me! The Josstice League movie, I felt nothing, I could not really even enjoy it. The Snyder cut though, I had tears in my eyes at times, and why Joss and the WB thought it was okay to pull out all the emotional parts of this movie is beyond me.
The reason that flash touches her very softly and carefully(in the movie) is that he is doing that in high speed so if you put even a small pressure to the human body with that speed, it's enough to kill you.
What do you think happened to Barry after he time travelled, at the end of his time travelling scene we saw him about to crash into cyborg at faster than light speeds but then it cut to cyborgs mind.
the speed force protects barry and everything he touches from damage theyd receive during those high speeds. the same reason why the earth doesnt explode when he runs faster than the speed of light. sadly snyder didnt like that fact about him lol
@@stop94motion true, but I went to YT on my phone about 15-20 minutes after the movie ended and the video was already posted for 30 minutes. So kinda perfect
He is a dude in the comics, but here he looks like a 60-year-old man with the skin texture of Spongebob's mom, wearing irregular-patterned medieval light armor, and being built like a regular guy, not Steppenwolf.
I actually think Freddie’s point about the aspect ratio is really interesting, especially with superheroes. Comics books/graphic novels/manga are almost all made and drawn in portrait orientation. So if you do a full page splash you can draw your hero standing tall and heroic in full, fill the page and not force them to look smaller or be in the distance. You can’t show a character in that same way in widescreen film. You can pan and zoom, but you have to frame it differently because of the format. It’s interesting how differently you can, or even have to, present the ‘same’ characters depending on the medium.
The secondary effect of keeping his hands flat to not clip into clothes that will be added later is that it looks like he is being extremely careful to avoid any hard impacts as his speed would make them severely dangerous to her. Almost an acknowledgement of the momentum problem that you alluded to earlier.
@@GellertTV Counterpoint: He grabs the hot dog full contact with all the necessary fingers, like anyone else would. Slowly, but full contact. It doesn't break or explode into pieces. Either it wasn't a standing direction that he has to be extremely careful about touching things, or they forgot about it during that part of the scene.
It wasn't a vfx decision, if they really wanted they could match his hands with a live shot of him grabbing an arm in a coat, it is in fact physics decision bc of his speed, and he does not hold the hotdog full contact he just settles it between his finger so he can guide it to his pocket
@@Roxfox I mean it's not a big deal if hotdog actually break. You could juggle eggs without breaking them but you wouldn't risk it right? So he just wouldn't risk it with Iris

Freddie's point on how the 4:3 aspect ratio emphasized how larger than life the characters were actually bodes true, but mainly for this film.

You guys are great! I'm a boring stay at home mom with no interest in film making, or VFX myself, but my husband got me hooked on your videos, and now I watch them way more than he does! Your channel was actually the first one I ever subscribed to on TH-cam. Just wanted to make sure you guys know that all sorts appreciate what you guys do!
