    In my opinion the hydraulic jacks are a no brainer on the dump trailers, being that the hydraulics are already there to tie into. Same thing with a hydraulic dovetail. If the hydraulics are already there might as well make life easier.

    Best thing I ever did for my dump trailer was get rid of the trailer battery and run a wire from the trailer to the truck battery. I used welding lead twist connectors to disconnect when not using the dump trailer. Never have to worry about if the dump trailer battery is charged

      Best thing I ever did for my dump trailer is put hydraulic remotes to the rear of the trucks to run the dump trailer, No more battery, no more slow hydraulic performance, dump the trailer from the cab and no one can borrow the trailer !

    I thought the telescoping cylinder was the way to go until I saw the video where the third stage couldn't dump what looked like five ton of dirt. My scissor would of dumped what he had in it no problem, same size trailer too...nice set up!

    When powering down gravity is with you and though the pump is spinning it’s not drawing the amps to lift a load like when it’s dumping. Sweet trailer 👍👍

    @johnmattu7262 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    And the GN is way easier on your tow rig. I approve of this dump, not that it means a dump to you, LOL but I would prefer the tele over the scissor because of capacity and scissors are hard on themselves, lots of stress there. I do understand what you mean about interference though, Diamond C needs to go to a full fledged dump truck jack with 4-5 scopes and a dog box set up.

    Gooseneck is a no brainer. Scissor tried and proven, plus hidden for damage. Gravity down is a big plus(you can prob add that yourself). I do like the deckover as the bed is huge and the sides fold down for loading. Hyd jacks are incredible. Great decisions, congrats

      Telescopic is far superior in capacity and it is not close. In exchange for superior mechanics and ~30% increased lift capacity, you probably lose 3-5% lift time. I take that trade all day, telescopic over scissor.

    I don't think you mentioned getting in/out of those tight little roads w/equipment/logs and the ability to jack knife the 5th wheel to do it. IMHO even on soft ground, the 5th wheel will pull better/harder than dead weight hanging off the bumper. Besides, by now, you know what's going to work best for you anyway!! My friend got a 14k dump trl. She doesnt like to pull it though. She said if i need something hauled i got you and my brother. Ive had estimated 13k gross trl and i know my 9t wieghs 13k hauling my tractor and her trl single vs my duals felt very light but i know 1 spindle has had a bearing failure and has been welded plus trl had axles hooked to when trk was stuck because spring hangers are messes up slightly so im sure it tracks slightly off. I like my duals for tire service as they are e load rated vs needing a commercial type tire to go with singles. My trl has only seen maybe 3000 miles max in 10yrs as its for personal use. Like to get new 10k axles to replace the old 9k axles. Gravity down is big since ive seen people jump their dump trls since i wouldnt want to dump an unhooked trl so at least you can get it down. However if i had a dump trl i would wire battery cables to bed and wire trl so it can run off trk vs solely on battery as im sure i would battle dead battery a lot

    Definitely gotta be mindful of trailer empty weight. Would be nice if those were spread axles. Seems like manufacturers get little squirrelly on the axles to hydraulic point but usually they still can dump almost anything unless you blow your tires out 🤣✌ nice unit nonetheless 👍

    People are sold on telescopic for the wrong reasons. IMHO the only trailer that really should have one is a 20' deck over dump. It has the suspension to haul the load and enough deck space in front of the axles to need the leverage the telescopic provides.
    People want to dump a load they should never be towing on the road. I run scissor hoist on both my DC dumps hauling at there capacity and they have always dumped no problem.
    What is for sure is the telescopic is considerably slower. If your running several loads a day this can affect production.

    You obviously have done your home work and if it works for you great thats what matters as for the batteries one could always set up a portable solar trickle charger for them around your yard. I have 2 questions are the rims steel or aluminum ? The other is is there stake pocket holes on the top of the sides if one wanted to put extensions on for hauling light material

    I would not do a dual wheel for a dump trailer just depending because you could get the same gvwr because some Duallys have a 20k and you can get that in super singles and it’s less tires. But with super singles you can get a low-pro which if you add sides you can load higher. With Duallys you can only get a deck over

    I got a Big-Tex 25DU-20. Best purchase I have made for my business so far. Hey Sam, maybe you could elaborate on the pro rating thing on the trailer. My trailer has a sticker on it for GVWR of 25,900. But could I go to 30K?
    You are absolutely right about that deck level in the duelly wheels, it’s tall. Really nice trailer man.

    • @mungfam
      @mungfam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m curious too on the 25% over the axles 20k rate to 25,000 lbs.?

    • @j.walterstrucking3893
      @j.walterstrucking3893 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m a little curious on that as well. I can elaborate on what I think he is saying based on my knowledge. Most trailers, specifically the smaller ones (10k, 14k) are given a GVWR equal to the GAWR, so if you have two 7k axles the trailer is given a gross axle weight rating of 14k and is also given a GVWR of 14k. Some trailers, usually the bigger ones, are sometimes given a higher Gvwr than the axle weight ratings, typically 10-15% which is the weight transferred to the tow vehicle via tongue weight. This does NOT increase your axle weight rating, you can still only have the GAWR on the axles, the other weight is there, but not on the axles but rather transfered to the tow vehicle. I think this is more geared as a way to show the less knowledgeable about how much weight you COULD put on the trailer IF loaded correctly and also a max weight you could use as tongue weight.
      As an example: say you have a trailer rated for 14k. Empty weight of the trailer is 5k (so in theory, you would assume you could put 9k of weight on the trailer) when you go across a scale your axle weight empty is 4K (1k is tounge weight on the truck) so now in theory you could put 10k on the trailer as you really only have 4K weight on the axles which are rated for 14k. You can actually load more than that. Let’s say you load a piece of equipment on the trailer that weighs 12k pounds, if you place it directly over the axles your axle weight will probably be around 16k putting you over weight, but if you load it correctly you could have 14k on the axles and the rest tounge weight on the truck. So overall you have a 14k rated trailer that weighs 5k empty and you put a 12k machine on it so now you have a total weight of 17k between the trailer weight and machine weight. Properly loaded you could have 14k on trailer axles and the other 3k on the tongue which adds to the trucks weight.
      This is perfectly legal and safe to do under the correct circumstances, the trailer needs to be built strong enough to handle that kind of tongue weight, and you truck needs to be able to handle the weight (and stay within the trucks axle and gross weight ratings) as well as all the equipment in between ( gooseneck hitch capacity, ball capacity, etc)
      When buying a trailer NEW most trailer manufactures will de-rate them for a small fee and send you a new vin plate. I’m not sure why you rate the gvwr on a trailer higher than the GAWR, as you could not exceed the axle weight ratings period, perhaps the trailer manufactures are placing a gvwr to limit liability on guys trying to put WAY too much tounge weight on a trailer not meant to handle it - like trying to put 4K tongue weight on a 14k bumper pull that only has 6” c-channel tounge (I’ve seen that happen...it bends the tounge lol)

    If you lost a tire or hub, and chained it up to keep going, you would now have 5 left instead of 3. And the same tickit for limping that down the road.

      Check to make sure all your frame brackets have 2 bolts. I've seen them pivot and cause the rails to slide back and forth if there's only one bolt per bracket
