    Been watching for a while, but now I have a question. I have my favorite saw, Husky 154SE. I lunched it with a tank of bad fuel. Bought a jug and damned if it didn't happen again. I pealed some coating off and I can't find a jug. HELP! O, and if your curious, I found the original receipt in a toolbox. I bought it in 1986 with my 6.9 Ford . still use both. That saw has never been outcut, it just screams. Thank you , Joe

    Hey Harvey I have a question about bores ? From the bit of hotrodding I've done and been around from the old-school. I've always heard when rebuilding say a small block chevy , if the bore is within standards and doesn't need any boring, your always supposed to hone the cylinder to rehatch the bore so the oil will stick in the bore when the piston travels. Now with the slick surface of those chainsaw jugs does that effect the rings piston wear?

    • @evankibbe590
      @evankibbe590 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      your not exactly wrong in what your saying but your talking about 4 stroke engine and comparing it to a 2 stroke with a 2 stroke your oil and gas mixer is comes in the fumes burn while the oil lubricates everything else 2 stroke piston has very fine lines around it for oil .

    Any new mod to a two stroke motor(in this case a chainsaw) is gonna be trial and error. You can throw all the theory you want at it but until you put it in action to reveal the outcome it’s just an educated guess even for the most intelligent. Trial and error is another way of saying research and development and that’s where the rubber meets the road. Making a port map of your cylinder , taking precise measurements and running the numbers (either by hand or computer software) is gonna tell you EXACTLY what that engine is doing at chosen rpm-there’s NO room for argument on this . Now, before ya even take a file (let alone a burr) to the cylinder ya can use different port shapes (widening, raising, Drake Intake - whatever suits your fancy) and run the numbers again and see what’s what WITHOUT grinding on the cylinder! Like I said before and I know You know, many ways to skin a cat my friend. As far as degree wheel goes , well it’s not the be all end all but does have its purpose - trouble is ya get 10 guys checking the same cylinder you’re gonna get 10 slightly different results - take that to the bank sir. The 044s I’m building have a stroke of 1.42 inches ... you take the stroke and divide by 360degrees and ya get approx . 004 per degree (and use 180 degrees for exhaust stroke ya get almost .008) but you’re already in the hole 🕳 using the degree wheel cause the piston comes to a dead stop on top and bottom- dwell is the term for this phenomenon and the rod has to whip around the other side at tdc whilst piston remains stationary , same thing on the bottom but it’s even worse cause now the angle is steeper. Precise-port TIMING at the rpm you choose to build at is gonna reap FAR greater rewards than just throwing darts 🎯 and grinding away to hit numbers. Those numbers don’t amount to a hill of beans unless ya duplicate EVERYTHING the same on the cylinder, intake and exhaust. As far as saying ya can’t duplicate that cylinder without using a degree wheel well that’s just plain ol horseshit Harvey, been doin it for YEARS... I can measure/ machine a heckuva lot closer than the .004 per degree(actually almost .008 on 180degree exhaust stroke )which is actually greater than this number on account of the dwell). Remember sir, the piston goes up and down , the degree wheel takes this linear motion and Converts it to degrees. I can take my precise measurements and convert them to degrees any time I wish sir , what I’m doin ain’t rocket science... Ya just have to ponder it in your mind over and over until it “clicks” ... I’ll be easing down the yellow-brick road to Canisteo NY with some saws in tow when the weather breaks Harvey and we will “test” the theory k ? I tried to make it over the Xmas season but the damn cervesza bug threw a monkey-wrench into the hole darn operation. I’ll email ya or vice-versa... oh and Harvey, better eat your wheaties 😀
