    Like that tie, SJ but please please please don't apologize for your rambling. I learn so much from that I wish you'd do MORE rambling! Thanks for all you share with us.

      Rob....I couldn't ha e said it better. Sj's rambling is what turned me into an average jig designer. I have learned everything I know tieing jigs from SJ. I enjoy how he explains things and goes into detail of what he is doing.

    Dan, great looking pattern!! Going to have to try that chenille and tie up a few of these. As other have said tied in larger sizes this will be a smallie killer in my waters. Please don't apologize for your ramblings, your are always gleaning tons of great information!! Thanks for sharing. Have a great Father's day and may you and your family stay safe and healthy!!

      Thank you Steve!!! I have used a jig I call a pseudo tube on smallmouth for years and it worked well. This jig is very similar if I tied it in a larger size yet I've never tried doing it for smallmouth. I hope your fathers day was great as well Steve, thank you for the well wishes, it truly is appreciated!!!

    Nice pattern and sure to catch fish. I'm going to have to get myself in gear once I feel better and tie some of this up, or at least similar,. Thanks for sharing.

    Mrs. Whorthers caramel crappie killer! I consider this a dual pattern jig SJ. Tip this bad boy with a large tuffy minnow....throw it on 6lb test again Rock rows or bluff walls on Pickwick and hold on. Beautiful jig SJ. Almost too pretty to fish! Outstanding job!

      Thank you Alex!!! I absolutely love that name, Mrs. Whorthers caramel crappie killer!!! It sounds like you have tied something similar Alex but that doesn't surprise me!!!

    I agree that in a larger size it’s Smallmouth Candy. Have you ever considered stepping up to pike size jigs.
    Nothing huge, I’ve caught all sizes of pike on a small 3/4 Oz red and white dare devils, about 3-4” long. The smallest about 10 inches, the largest 17#.

      @smalljaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Ken!!! I don't fish for Pike, my waters don't have a lot of Pike, mainly Muskie and Chain Pickeral. Some waters north of my have them in better numbers but I don't fish for them.

    Just a question on your jig heads... Do you pour up all of your own, or buy them? ... Just being nosey I guess! Super job on all of your jigs, and am about to pull the trigger on tying myself! Due to health issues, I cannot fish any longer, so tying them from a want aspect rather than a need aspect should help in the patience department!

    • @smalljaw
      @smalljaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jim, thank you for watching!!! I pour all my own jig heads. I have some health issues myself and so I don't get out as much as I used to so I understand. This is a good way to stay connected to fishing even when you can't get out on the water.

    Nice looking jig. Is the camo paint a pro tec paint?

    • @smalljaw
      @smalljaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David!!! The paint is Jig Armor from Boss outdoors. The problem is that it looks as if they aren't carrying it anymore. You can use pro-tec brown and this marker in black - barlowstackle.com/quick-coat-paint-markers-p3778/?afmc=f0 . You simply make small black dots with the fine point and then cure it and it bakes right into the powder paint.

    You had previously mentioned using a Oddessy vise, and in a few videos notice you using a Mongoose model ...is the Mongoose worth the add'l money?

    • @smalljaw
      @smalljaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question Jim. For me the Mongoose is worth the extra money. I have been blessed with some wonderful friends who actually purchased the Mongoose for me 2 years ago. I tie both bass jigs and crappie jigs, the fact that I can make adjustments to the vise on the fly without having to use a tool is a big plus. I also like the cam operated jaws, it makes placing and removing hooks and jigs effortless and quick. Now you can get an Odyssey with cam jaws for a little more than the standard Odyssey but still less than the Mongoose. It comes down to features, you may not need to make a lot of adjustments but I do need that. Being able to do so without having to stop and use an allen wrench is worth it by itself. The Mongoose also comes with a c-clamp and a pedestal so no need to buy anything else plus it has a hard case. Included in the case is a good ceramic bobbin and a hackle gauge, it really is a lot of vise for the money.
