    The Oak Street Bootmakers Trench Boot has a simple look but packs a punch in terms of quality and durability.
    They have a wider, flatter toe than many other plain toe boots I’ve tried, and they’re a bit pricey compared to similar-quality brands like Grant Stone, but they’re entirely made in the USA, almost exclusively of USA materials.

    Excellent work as always, man. I definitely appreciate you featuring boots that aren't the same damn ones that everyone else is always talking about.

    Just got my Oak Street Trench Boots yesterday. They look so much better in person. Comfortable right out of the box. I can't wait to wear them out more. This channel definitely helped me with my decision.

    Great video! I live in Chicago and was able to get sized at their store. I'm usually between a 11 and 10.5. They sized me at 10.5 and I love the wide toe box. Makes these so comfortable. Also, Redwing sized me at 10.5 as well.

    Interesting timing. I just bought a pair of black chromexcel plain toe trench boots during the 30% off sale. I got them in the mail today, I've been wearing them around the house, and I already love them.

    i like oak street, they are sometimes slept on. i am glad they have a solid offering of chromexcel leathers, but in the last few years they have presented some different specialty leathers such as movado shell cordovan from italy and an excellent kudu which is unlike anything else i have and they too have been offering cats paw heel caps which is a nice touch.

    I had to buy my Natural Chromexel Trench boots in my sneaker size of 12. I originally ordered the 11.5D (since that size works well for me in boots and some dress shoes, and is how I measure on a Brannock), but my big toe was being pinched pretty bad. The leather insole also became delaminated from the foam below it. I contacted Oak Street and due to the insole issue and size issue, they offered me an exchange, so I went up a size. 12 is a little big, but better than pain. I made them work by removing the leather insole and using a SuperFeet insole.

    The Trench Boot is based off the M1918 Trench boot a WW1 boot, it's their field boot that is based on WW2 service boots.

    That toe box shape is similar to my Garmont T8 bifida military boots, super comfy for my wide feet.

    Interesting boot, I like the wider toe esp in the rough out, looks like a better option for someone looking to break away from Timberlands

    Most of my young adult life I wore Kodiak boots in Canada . Hunting / fishing . Great boots . I think they wear always under $100 .

    One thing you missed, and it may not matter to some. The trench boots have a foam footbed with a thin leather insole that is glued on. Found out when one of the insoles unglued on me on a long walk. Wasn’t an issue as I replaced the insole.

    • @jaredjantzi5915
      @jaredjantzi5915 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They really have foam? Under the leather insole it should be a fiberboard, and then cork under that.

    • @franky3fingers337
      @franky3fingers337 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jaredjantzi5915 yeah. A very thin

    • @EDHBlvd
      @EDHBlvd ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep, the same thing happened to me. The leather insole is just glued to foam below it, and with wear it delaminates. I just removed the leather insole and use a SuperFeet insole.

    • @seth_5394
      @seth_5394 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The foam referenced here is between the footbed and the leather insole. I've had my Trench boots for 6 years and the leather insole came unglued after about a year. No big deal. The foam though is on top of the leather footbed. A footbed can not be made of foam as it wouldn't be strong enough to give the structure needed. The foam was likely put in to avoid a leather on leather squeak between the footbed and insole.

    Good timing! Oak Street Bootmakers is currently running with their 30% discount on all boots. Those who were priorly on the fence just got a reason. With said discount the Trench boot comes in at about $40 less than the Grant Stone Diesel... as for which one is better; I don't know, I don't own a Trench boot. But I suspect if you lean on the dressier side of casual, go Diesel, if you lean on the casual side of causal, go Trench.

    Just my 2 cents, I am true to size in these. I got a half size down in this last and felt it was just a hair too small.

    I think the wide toe box is a good thing. Otherwise, the pants tend to swallow up the boot like for the Thursdays.

    So where is the dubbin? Roughout service boots were traditionally drowned in dubbin iirc…
    (Well, not that extreme. But dubbin was to be applied to them copiously.)

    The Grant Stone does NOT use a Dainite sole. It has an inferior imitation Dainite sole. You don't think it's relevant to even mention that GLARING inferiority?
