Same exact problem on my 2011 Golf. Ordered the part from Amazon, only $15 and it took about 10 mins to replace… so easy. Replaced the cabin filter to as it’s right beside the resistor. Can’t thank you enough!!! 🙌 Probably saved me a $200 repair bill at the dealer.
Bro this shyt worked on my car, I took the resistor off and it was rusted to the tee! Went to pick and pull and got a fresh one with the connector and boom, my AC blows cold as hell!! Thank u bro for this video, much appreciated 👍
My aunt's C3 only works on fan-speed 5 (1, 2, 3, 4 not working). I'll keep watching and hope I can follow these general instructions across to the different car brand.
Easy to follow and great money saver! in 10 minutes en for overall €20 i fixed a very ennoying issue. Thx for this step bij step tutorial! great work! 💪
Very useful, thank you. I have an Up! with this issue, but the only video I can find the guys taking half the dashboard off, the gearstick gaiter but I’m hoping that’s because it’s a left hand drive model he’s using!
Thank you, I appreciate that. My 2002 Ford F-250 has the same problem, hopefully the fix will be the same. I suspect it will be. But where did ya get that high speed hand file? I need one of those. 😉
What I listen for in these car videos is what is the model of the car, what is the problem, how often does it occur, how easy is it to fix, and how much do the parts cost. I hope this information gets back to automotive companies to build better and lower cost cars for the consumer.
The Heater blower in my Peugeot Expert 2.0 HDI 2007 started off only working on high. Now it doesn`t work at all! Is the blower motor gone too I wonder? I ordered a resistor. Thanks for the video. "Beef to the Heels . . ."
3 minutes to fit, I would suggest a courtesy clean or replacement of the the filter, mine was full of detritus! Can't believe I've been driving around for a year with only high speed fans, looking forward to quiet driving.
Hi If you have issue with blower not working at all , it is commonly fuse that is 40 amp fuse find that and check . If the fuse blow straight away once you change it remove the blower motor and try to rotate it , if it is stuck, use DW40 and release the stuck and try . If blower works only on number 4 , it is definitely blower motor resistor . Those are the common issues . I have tried this in vw touran and vw passat .
I changed the fan blower motor because it stopped blowing air but not it only works on 4 (max)... I changed the resistor and its still doing the same not blowing on 1, 2, or 3 just 4.... any ideas? I've also already checked the fuses.... Its for a 2011 chevy malibu if that helps
Sounds like switch or resistor fault. With the resistor electrical connector removed check the harness at different fan speeds and make sure the readings are correct from the switch down to the resistor. If you have the correct readings you may have a faultly resistor? Some electrical checks will confirm 100% without any parts replaced. If you are unsure of how to do it I would recommend getting it looked at. All the best with it 👍👌
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage I actually figured it out turns out it was the connections for the resistor wasn't getting a good contact it took forever just to figure it out after I checked everything and stripped the whole car down lol
Any chance this could be draining my battery? Came out this morning and car battery dead. I have had this problem with the blower motor for about 1 month now.
my blower motor is only blowing on speeds 1 and 2 and whenever i go past 2 it turns the speed back down to 1. if i replace the resistor will it work for this problem?
On my VW GOLF MK5 the fault was a faulty fan selector switch. This also made the resistor burn out and 40amp fuse blow... so the selector switch had to be replaced.... In my experience, the blower motor resistor normally burns out for a reason...
The resistor is the most common fault in these cases, of course there are other much less % possibilities, I disagree with your resistor normal burns out for a reason comment, if by reason you mean another primary fault and the resistor is a secondary fault. A blower motor resistor is usually the primary cause in my experience across all makes and models not just VW. I have replaced tons of resistors over the years without having to go back in and replace other items. If you have fuses blown that usually tells you a different story. Thanks for the comment and your input.
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage Okay you may be right. But if you replace the resistor, and it burns out again soon after you replace it, then the fault is elsewhere (like it was on my car)....
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage The reason for the resistor burning out can be low airflow from the fan due to a blocked filter or obstruction in the duct as the air from the fan is used to cool the resistor as it dissipates a lot of heat for the size of the resistor. It is possible that running the fan with the air vents closed may reduce the airflow sufficiently to overheat the resistor and blow the thermal fuse.
Great video Get as always. I'm curious, was that a spurious part or how come you had to file out the notch? I suppose she fits a couple of diff vw/seat models
I presume the resistor fitted a few options. It is not uncommon for slight adjustments on aftermarket parts so once it was the same in the other areas I didn't hesitate to fit it. Thanks for your kind words as always.
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage Not a bother. Hope Civic is coming on well! I'm thinking of changing car myself. What are your thoughts/experiences Ger of the volvo xc60 D5 with auto box (2015/16)?
I have not checked the circuit but my guess would be the switch has failed in position 4 possibly due to overload. Has the supply fuse blown in the past ? Also if you turn the ignition on with the switch in position 4 the inrush current is about 150A which could fry contacts.
@@pauljones2292 I have the part, but haven’t had the time to attempt it yet. I may also have been putting it off a bit in case I cock it up! Thanks for asking 😊

Your instructions were clear, easy to follow and got the problem fixed. Thanks

What’s the length of warranty of the part?
