There are some amazing configurations being made and you only have to look at people like Dub FX and even Beardyman is looking at using it and moving away from things like Ableton. For a full gig I still use a hardware looper as it’s dedicated and less components to carry with less cabling.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK yeah thanks John for your answer ! Ok RC 600 is Nice because less cables but i think iPad with app and controler is more comfortably to use for me but you gave to sélect and choice good matérial if you dont want troubles in live situation .. Antoine from France
I just gave a mention about you on the MC8 order page. I just found I can run Group the Loop and Loopy at the same time through Audiobus. Seems reasonable that I should be able to set up pages for each app on the MC8. I’ll find out shortly. Thanks for the videos. Very helpful!
Do you know if it is possible to trigger multiple events in loopy with a CC change on the morning star? I’ve been playing around with it a bit but haven’t seen this as being do-able. Can set up separate midi channels on MC-8 and separate actions with one push but it seems loopy only recognizes the last event on the list in the Morningstar editor. Would be a good way to section off a 12 part grid to trigger multiple events simultaneously. For example... on a 12 part grid-Toggle mute the left/left column, the left-center column, right/center column, or the right/right column- or toggle on upper right square of 4, lower right square, etc. I’m finding myself back on your page frequently when I’m playing with this stuff. Woulda bought you a beer but the coffee looked like the only option. Cheers!
Hey Karl. Coffee flavoured beer 🤢 hahahaha. Only joking.. much appreciated mate. 👍🏼 Yeah so it should be possible and I think the answer will be delays. Set a small delay in between then commands. I don’t think the iPad/iPhone can understand multiple commands at once but a delay in between the commands might work. I’ve nit tried this myself but that’s what I would try next if I was you.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I went over to the loopy forum and it appears that multiple events cannot be triggered by midi in loopy simultaneously. Maybe the new version of loopy but that seems to be a mystery too. But... It turn out there is a thing that does this already. I didn’t know about this until googling around yesterday. A launch pad for Ableton live. Kind of a mind blower.
Excellent set up! Exactly what I’ve been trying to do! You’re not using an apple camera kit dongle to keep your iPad charged, how long does your iPad battery last like that?
So from full I would say I get to around 45-50% in 2hrs when using with LoopyHD and an audio interface so you could probably get around 3-4hrs performance.. but the new iPads have bigger batteries. You could always plug it in with a multiport adapter. 👍🏻
Hey John Paul! Thank you for this video. Do you think this setup would work if I connected it to a MeloAudio Multi-Effects MIDI Foot Controller via USB?
Hiya John Paul. Love the channel, thanks for the effort and the quality. I have a question I am hoping you might be answer for me: I am planning to buy an AirTurn BT200S-6 Controller to use with the Loopy HD app, and I was wondering if the process of setting it up would be the same as the Morningstar you used?
hey 👋 so.. sort of yes. its very similar. you need to hsve the Airturn paired and they will have either cc numbers or control numbers and then you just tell which one you want loopy HD to control. you might also benefit from this video as well.. kind of on the same vain: th-cam.com/video/dhERGoDLD3c/w-d-xo.html
Ugh. Now I stumbled on this. This seems like a really good app... so why would I do Loopy Pro over this? Loopy HD is $4.99... lol. You have me confused now JohnPaul... I was just looking to upgrade my RC30 to RC600 or 505 (which I almost bought the 505 and a FS)... then I saw your Loopy Pro vids.... and now this... lol. I have a 3rd gen iPad pro so I started leaning to Loopy Pro. But this is $4.99.
To be fair, this video was made before Loopy Pro came out. But if everything you need is there, then you are good to go. However Loopy Pro takes it to the next level and you can literally build your own looper within it! My advice - piece of paper and a pen. Draw and write out every thing you need the looper to do, signal, effects, loops, etc and see what fits. Choices are a good thing! 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I was mostly kidding, you really just do too good of a job showing off all of this gear! I guess in the end we all need to realize they are all pretty good at what they do. I'm sure anyone of these things would work well for me. I bought Loopy Pro last night and have just been doing scratch pad stuff on it for the last few hours. Just the iPad Mic and my acoustic. Perfect way to start, and I will dig into it more and more, and certainly referring back to your vids! Many thanks brother and happy looping.
Oh I know you were kidding. No worries there 😊 Have a look at the series I made in conjunction with the creator of Loopy Pro. That should get you up to speed quickly: th-cam.com/play/PLO36LpORUSaYsDmWvl2tqZr3flIVH2ffl.html Never been a better time! 😊 👍🏻
Have you tried the looptimus foot controller too I’m trying to compare both before I get one. Wondering if they send the same midi messages to the softwares
to be fair, no I haven't had the Looptimus, only the MorningStar MC8. So unsure if it can do what you want it to. The MorningStar's online editor is really good and quite easy without diving in too hard. I like that the main editor is online, that way you dont have to download software and its always up to date.
Thanks so much for sharing this!! 🙏 I'm still a little confused- inst / vox → interface → ipad = this sends sound into the ipad for looping (right?) interface → speaker = sends sound from audio source (not from ipad?) to speaker midi controller → ipad = controls ipad via footswitch My question: is the ipad sending the looped audio back into the interface and into the speaker?
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Interesting that it's bidirectional (sound from interface into ipad, then back from ipad into interface). Okay, thanks for clarifying :)
You would have to marry it with using something like AudioBus.. but at this point I would be looking at Loopy Pro - the next big brother of Loopy HD. It supports DAW like features and AUV3 plugins for apps. Have a look here: th-cam.com/video/zz2Ggzd1QDo/w-d-xo.html
hi i have a some problem.. i use loopy with audio interface [behringer UMC204HD] but if i use mic or any instrument, that record sound is too low and recording sounds like a very far away.. how can i do..?
Loopy HD has an input gain slider on the main settings but this might be disabled by your audio interface. On the UNC204HD make sure you are set as LINE not INST for a mic and check your gain. Also check if the mic needs power (48v) Hope these helps.
Hi. I’m able to get MIDI actions defined in MC8 and LoopyHD just like youve described in your videos, but when I try to actually start using the MC8 to control LoopyHD app nothing happens - LoopyHD it does not react to any of the MC8 buttons at all. I’m using newest sw versions of the LoopyHD & MC8 firmware as well as iOS on my iPad Pro 11”. Maybe there’s a simple explanation, a setting or something?
Managed to solve this myself. In Morningstar MIDI Editor, the "CC Value" fields were initially set to 0 - and changing them to 1 for all buttons fixed the issue. Works just fine!
Your tutorials are great thank you! I have a MC8 I use for universal audio Console fishman triple play and a couple guitar pedals. It’s no doubt the MC 8 would be the best option for this, but I’m also considering buying a midi commander pedal. It doesn’t have the software that the morning star has, but the LoopyPro has MIDI learn i’m wondering if I should just purchase that pedal and use it only for a looping pedal to have them separate so I don’t get confused on stage. let me know if you can think of any limitations this would cause I’m not sure if the midi commander would have latency, and I would also like to use all the features like automation in Loopy pro. Also do you have a video that shows automation process? Pre-recording loops and then erasing them so you don’t have to press buttons on stage? That’s very appealing, because I’m playing a guitar singing and playing a farmer foot drum which is already overwhelming lol
Hey 👋 So you are right, any midi command pedal would do it cause you have the luxury of midi learn on both Loopy HD and Loopy Pro. I used this for ages and even with the Bluetooth learn, I used it on an old setup I had for loopy HD with an old Apple Mac Bluetooth keyboard and hacked it with some Lego pieces and put it on the floor! Haha. But any midi pedal would do it. Regarding the video, no i haven’t got a video like that. 🤔 Humm.. adding this one to the list as it intrigues me. 👍🏻
Thanks for posting this - helped me get LoopyHD working with Airstep Lite
Glad it helped. 👌
Thanks for the nicely paced video. Very helpful to me. It shows off the morningstar versitility.

Very interesting idea. I think that goes with the Behringer fcb1010 probably similar. Still have one lying in the basement. Thanks for the suggestion.
