Very interesting car. Surprising that it only has one muffler despite being a V-8. I thought only the I6 cars had those. My November '67 built 289 Fastback was originally Lime Gold but was later painted Acapulco Blue.
Only cars with GT package had dual exhaust ( or an option on the order form) I can’t believe that it’s unrestored- a exhaust system would rust as well as everything else even if storage was inside a controlled environment
I was at the Ford plants in this era -there were quality issues on some cars but not all of them. This car was kept in a dry environment - and used very little. Quite a car.
Yep, the same with The DeLorean DMC, actually quite “thrifty” in terms of quality and parts, I was very surprised as to how “Ford Fairmont” like the parts and parts quality are, cheap mass produced, stamped sheet metal parts, with little/no attention to exact fit and detail.
I just bought a 21,000 mile 68 Coupe and love all the originality but this car being a California car is just mind blowing. Thanks for posting.
Wow. Incredible detailed information. Thanks
Wow! How on Earth that car survived like that....?
Real insight into how it was made. Respect.
Thanks for this excellent post.

How is all that rubber not rotted and crumbing ?

I agree. The moisture in the exhaust system would rot it out
If a Cougar's wheelbase is 3" longer, wouldn't the rear jig mounting holes be 3" further rearward also?
people seem to think these cars were put together well. Even Iacocca said they were POS's
