Hi all, I thought I would expirement with todays video by turning down the background game play sound in the first part, rather than completely muting it, to see if it added a bit more atmosphere with the war noises! Let me know what you think, all feedback welcome
Hi mordian I like your content. I have to say I do t think this works. The voices are distracting, and the way the sound builds and falls chaotically as opposed to in a structured way like with music is a little jarring. I think the 80s electric music you have across most of your videos is great. For me anyways it has that cold war gone hot vibe mixed in with a bit of sci fi dystopia. Keep up the good work!
Great as always, has it been suggested (and probably has and is there some reason why not ) that you put an example list of these concepts as something to come back to rather than having to track back through the audio?
We were soldiers reference Broke arrow references a code in the US military that notifies every air unit in the region that a US unit is going to be over run, when that happens all air units stop what there doing and are to get to the unit as fast as possible to hopefully prevent a overrun.
It's not unique to air units, it's also for artillery support, and well any and all support available. It's just at Irah Drang, the only artillery in the area was there to for the sole purpose of supporting the aircav troops, so they were not going to get more of a priority there LOL.
Pretty sure broken arrow was a US military term or code phrase for the accidental firing or loss of control of a nuclear weapon. Does it mean something different now then it did originally?
@Dardaigh13 It's both, although the "overrun" meaning is older. Small detail though (sorry to nitpick) Broken Arrow is code for a lost or unsecured nuke, not necessarily fired. If some organization stole a nuke or it was lost into the sea (you'd be surprised), it's a Broken Arrow crisis.
Don't underestimate the [anti-fly 2+]. Like the Thunderbolt's rule it doesn't just apply to aircraft, but to anything with the fly keyword. So big flying daemons such as Be'lakor. Plus hovering or flying vehicles that aren't aircraft e.g. most T'au battlesuits, any Eldar hover vehicles. Not going to be consistently awesome but in certain matchups it might be a lot more relevant than you expect.
yeah, the prevalence of anti-fly weapons actually makes the lower toughness less of a concern then weight of wounds or abilities like the stormraven gunship's -1 damage. It will depend on if aircraft become meta or not.
I've been using flyers in space marines, and honestly it's quite interesting. The plane that can transport a drop pod and 12 infantry let's you drop a ballistus and a hellblaster death blob onto people who were not ready for it. I'd imagine it would work well in guard, considering we shoot really well.

I feel like if you are going for flyer spam, your optimal combination is 3 lightnings, 2 vultures. They compliment each other in the anti-tank/anti-infantry department better than the full light fighter list and cost almost the same points(840pts vs 780pts) as going full 6 light fighters. You also have the option of starting some on the board, some in reserve, and with the Leontus/Command Squad/Attache/infantry unit to support your flyers, it's only 1,180pts total.
A word of caution. As awesome as this all sounds it all reminds me of the Krieg Death Rider phase. Where players ran 30 riders due to their cheap cost and Mordian sang their praises like this back then. Not soon after they received a big points nerf and became too expensive and faded into history.
This needs to be said and said again. Everyone who watches these vids, considering buying any units, let alone fielding them: They intentionally change the units to get you to change your army. Look how good Leman Russ Executioner and Vanquisher were. Now everyone is ignoring Lemons and talking about Heavy Artillery. Look at the infantry, Cadians were great last addition and catachan were near unfieldable. Now Krieg are the strongest with Catachan being pretty good along with Cadians. I wouldn't be surprised if next time they are updated, Catachans will be the strongest infantry.

I am pretty sure that absolutely no opponent in their right mind would ever deny a guard flyer army from flying Flight of the Valkyries as they begin their opening attack. It would just be unnatural.
I'm just sad the Valk is so damn expensive:( I really wanted to be able to use one or 2 effectively, screaming down from the heavens to drop off some Scions while the Attack on Titan ODM gear soundtrack plays in the background
Perhaps combining Cadian Shock Troops with a Valk because you can airdrop them on a point, and their ability means the point stays yours until the opponent walks onto it, so you can airdrop them, hide them out of sight, then next turn pick them up again and move to another point, forcing an opponent to move out and onto the point, while you jet around airdropping onto each point, flipping it to yours and then moving again. Then, you can bring up the rest of your army while your opponent is trying to catch the plane and reinforce any point the airborne boys grab for you.
Or for 2000 points, you get 3 Avengers, 3 Thunderbolts, 3 Lightnings, a Death Korps Marshal as the warlord with Grand Strategist, Creed, and 80 Kriegsman.
Guys, please don't buy $1000 of FW models based on index rules. FW rules support, as you know, is notoriously bad and these could easily end up completely unplayable later in the edition. (that said, there are a lot of good alternative STLs out there if you aren't worried about tournament play)
Yeah, it’s hard not to see this as “let’s sell out all these FW flyer kits we’ve had lying around.” On the other hand, if they wait till Guard’s 10th codex comes out to invalidate them, they should see 3-4 years of play
Avengers seem good in an infantry/medium vehicle list. Use them as cheeky way to block enemy movement and or fly from objective to objective so that they are within 6" of the squad holding an objective.
True, but hover makes them easier to position, so you're more likely to be able to issue orders to them. Haven't done the MathHammer yet but it might be neutral or even a slight positive to hovering.

@@ianchapoy9617 Yes, but if a Command squad has access to Master Vox, it's because it can have a vox caster in its unit before being attached to a line unit. Leontus doesn't have that if I am correct.
Please be aware. Fields of fire only works with regiment or squadron so not for aircraft. Also if you select the hover mode you lose the aircraft keyword so don't benefit from master of the fleet as he only effects units with the keyword of aircraft. I hope I'm mistaken but rules as written seem to imply these things. Very disappointing for flyer lists.
I play Airborne Horse Artillery, field guns, aircraft and light vehicles (And some rough riders due to a mix up) and infantry to get in with beyonetts.
This makes me want to try a drop scion list I've had in the back of my mind for years. The problem is the vendetta getting pushed to legends breaks my heart.

I’m soo keen on an airborne army for guard but yeh the Valkyrie is massively expensive and you have to look to forge world. Are they all tournament legal? Unfortunately very recent experience has seen many forgeworld units getting brutally kicked out to legends Re Valkyrie though - I do wonder if a strategy of using the points cost to max efficiency might be worth it. Basically thinking it’s a surprise back line objective decimator. Forcing the enemy to mess about and dedicate more forces back there, and attracting fire when it’s not that great at shooting anyway

For 20 krieg within 12” with FRFSRF you’d have 8 blue dice for plasma, 2 red dice for melta, 2 green dice for krak grenades, and 42 white dice for lasguns. Then you can roll it all together very quickly and just note to your opponent for example against T5 that they are all hitting on 4s, blue red and green wound on 3s and white wound on 5s. Then the successes you note to your opponent the varying AP and damage for his saves.
Unfortunately the current rules for Aircraft without hover are killing the whole idea of first striking something....arriving turn 2 is a blow and means you are not able to order them. So the whole idea with Lord Solar will work from turn 3 on. I really like your positiv energy and I get inspired by your list ideas, quirky as they might be...but that one is a little hard to pull off my man 😉

They should make some meth guard to enable the authentic blitzkrieg experienc. Maybe have guard with those drug tubes on their back like some of those jackal korne models.
Have a look at the savlar chem dogs. They're a regiment whose aesthetic and lore fit what you're after. Gland warriors are also tehnically drugged up shock trooper units but they're more 'elite'.

The 500 point limit is for units placed in Strategic Reserves before the battle begins. Aircraft start in "Reserves" but aren't placed into "Strategic Reserves" until after the game starts so they don't use your Strategic Reserves limit. It's worded very confusingly in the rules. So as I understand it you can have a ton of aircraft and deep strikers and then 500 points of whatever you want in Strategic Reserves on top of that. A Guard aircraft-heavy list could potentially start the game with nothing on the table, do nothing turn 1, and then deep strike in with up to 6 units of Scions if you made a Tempestus commander character your warlord, along with all your aircraft and 500 points of whatever else you want on turn 2. And if you're only using Valkyries and Vultures, you could start with them in hover mode and have everything on the table on turn 1 instead. You could change up your army formation and overall strategy a lot depending on the matchup without changing the roster.

@@OchoMiniatures it explains about the distinction between Reserves and Strategic Reserves in the first paragraph of page 43 in the Core Rules, and then on page 53 it says Aircraft must start the battle in Reserves and they only go into Strategic Reserves 'once the battle has started.' So Aircraft do not get counted as part of your Strategic Reserves limit, which only gets counted in the Declare Battle Formations step. They really should have said this explicitly somewhere (and clarified it for units with Deep Strike too) but they went to a lot of effort to word it in this roundabout way and so I can only conclude they did it on purpose and this is is how they intend for it to work.

@@OchoMiniatures they come in from Strategic Reserves with the same restrictions as any other unit, yeah. But the movement rules for Aircraft are pretty weird and make them hard to use well, especially bombers.
And this is why you don't cry about the rules till its had time to play out!!! The problem is most players are net list tuber followers make your own meta and don't cry about hear say!!!
Ain’t now way I’m spending the money to buy forgeworld stuff when I see how it ends up. How long before they get sent to legends ? I’d bet not long. I’ll stick to tried and true choices.
I know broken arrow.. but not sure you do.. Broken Arrow refers to an accidental event that involves nuclear weapons, warheads or components that does not create a risk of nuclear war
Broken Arrow can mean two things, one of which is that the ground forces are about to be overrun and that all aircraft in range need to apply air support immediately. If you're going to correct someone try to be correct about it.

There are something like half of all Necron units that have the fly keyword lol.

Fucks up Dark Eldar as well. All our best units this edition have Fly and we're fragile besides.

If I ever had the money to get these flyers I would love to do a group of units from the Phantine fighter corps. (Sabbat Worlds Crusade novels).

most events are fine with 3d print/Proxies other than anything that is ran/sponsered directly with GW ...

I think it's dumb that they drop the aircraft keyword when the Vulture/Valkyrie hover. Lose out on the +1 to hit from the officer of the fleet.
Unless my Catachan can hang out the side of the gunship with a stubber screaming "GET SOME" I cannot justify buying into one atm.

20man squad can have two leaders. One being a ComandSquad one being Leo

You can attach 2 leaders to an infantry Squad. So attach the Lord Solar and a command squad to one and then the Lord Solar can use the master Vox :)

But you can only have 25% of your army in reserve so you are limited to 500 points in aircraft although you can still have more in hover mode

Aircraft start in "Reserves" but aren't placed into "Strategic Reserves" until after the game starts so they don't use your Strategic Reserves limit. It's worded very confusingly in the rules. So as I understand it you can have a ton of aircraft and deep strikers and then 500 points of whatever you want in Strategic Reserves on top of that.
A Guard aircraft-heavy list could potentially start the game with nothing on the table, do nothing turn 1, and then deep strike in with up to 6 units of Scions if you made a Tempestus commander character your warlord, along with all your aircraft and 500 points of whatever else you want on turn 2. And if you're only using Valkyries and Vultures, you could start with them in hover mode and have everything on the table on turn 1 instead. You could change up your army formation and overall strategy a lot depending on the matchup without changing the roster.

@@OchoMiniatures it explains about the distinction between Reserves and Strategic Reserves in the first paragraph of page 43 in the Core Rules, and then on page 53 it says Aircraft must start the battle in Reserves and they only go into Strategic Reserves 'once the battle has started.' So Aircraft do not get counted as part of your Strategic Reserves limit, which only gets counted in the Declare Battle Formations step.
They really should have said this explicitly somewhere (and clarified it for units with Deep Strike too) but they went to a lot of effort to word it in this roundabout way and so I can only conclude they did it on purpose and this is is how they intend for it to work.

@@OchoMiniatures they come in from Strategic Reserves with the same restrictions as any other unit, yeah. But the movement rules for Aircraft are pretty weird and make them hard to use well, especially bombers.

Ain’t now way I’m spending the money to buy forgeworld stuff when I see how it ends up. How long before they get sent to legends ? I’d bet not long. I’ll stick to tried and true choices.

I know broken arrow.. but not sure you do.. Broken Arrow refers to an accidental event that involves nuclear weapons, warheads or components that does not create a risk of nuclear war
Broken Arrow can mean two things, one of which is that the ground forces are about to be overrun and that all aircraft in range need to apply air support immediately. If you're going to correct someone try to be correct about it.
