@@sandyquilty3138 The album version is the best, imo, I've heard several versions including one's that look like album versions on TH-cam that aren't. The elements that were added, like backing vocals, a vocal intro and shoddy synth solo ruined an otherwise perfect original recording. For that matter, the entire album Chance is truly an unprecedented musical accomplishment and ushered in a sound that defined much of what bands for the rest of the 80s had to strive to approximate, thanks, I believe, much to the hard work of producer Trevor Rabin. As far as I can tell, no other Manfred Mann album comes even close to what this album achieved artistically.

Blinded By The Light was another springsteen song that MM did before this one... springsteen's version STUNK ON ICE, and MM just redid it and hit it right out of the park. Springsteen really has no love for MM as a result.

I think you're right but, that says something for the songwriting craft of Bruce. He, along with Dylan, crafted some real gems that only got better when others interpreted them underscoring the quality of the songwriting. Bruce is one of those artists that is really best live to which the later big tours kind of smothered some of the amazing interface he was capable of when performing in a much more intimate setting that didn't have to be a bombastic greatest hits type "oldies" show. Not to take anything away from the arena Bruce but at the end of the day it's the songs and Mann knows how to arrange them in a most unique and pleasing way that really connects. I really think Mann is one of the 20th century greats because not only could he be totally righteous in his early pop incarnation but, he could push the instrumental progressive boundaries to where they were totally just as accessible. He's one unique artist that deserves far greater accolades than even his long and successful career often gets.

Love this song! When this came out, there was another official video for this song that had a blonde girl in it, with closeups, alternating with the band's performances. Does anyone else remember that?

The Tampa Bay Rays baseball team use that famous piano rift part of this song coming back from commercial breaks between innings sometimes. Their late announcer who tragically and suddenly passed right before this season started (2023), had a hand Im sure in it being one of the "bumper" songs (coming back from commercial). And oh by the way, Rays are in first right now.

It was a different time, y`know. I don`t know what it was like in the US and Canada at the time, but in Western Europe in the years 1979-1981, four or five songs by Manfred Mann`s Earth Band, including this one, *dominated* the airways.

Keine Schulfeier in den 80ern ohne diesen großartigen Song mehrmals gehört zu haben ! Das passierte, wenn sich Manfred Mann's Earth Band mal eine großartige Komposition vornahm und diese geschliffen ausarrangierte. Musikalisches Weltkulturerbe !
