In his younger days, John Williams had a very close friend, an older maestro by the name of Miklos Rozsa. He gives Ben Hur a HUGE run for his money. Look up HIS soundtracks (especially Ben Hur, El Cid, Quo Vadis and Ivanhoe). The guy was literally a genius as well.
This man is an absolute legend. Jurassic Park and E.T. are two of my favorite childhood movies ever. Both soundtracks are just stunning and I get goosebumps every single time. Pure magic. I also would like to shoutout Home Alone as well. God bless John Williams. A national treasure.
At first I was like: "How is Harry Potter only number 8!?!?!" and then I watched the rest and realized they're all too awesome to be put lower than each other.
The E.T music makes me cry every time I hear it. Absolutely beautful music that takes me back to my childhood. Takes me right back to being on the ride in Disney world, Orlando florida in 1994 and hearing E.T say thank you to us all one by one through the tannoy on the way out as the music played behind him. Fantastic.

Before John Williams and Steven Spielberg, there was Bernard Herman and Alfred Hitchcock. In the mid 20th century they defined what the ultimate collaboration of director and composer could be to produce such incredible movies such as vertigo and psycho. The thing about Williams and Spielberg is rather than lasting a decade like Herman and Hitchcock, this collaboration lasted almost four decades. We are just so incredibly lucky for that.
The score playing on Vertigo when Kim Novak came out of the bathroom, illuminated by the green light spilling in the window, appearing like an apparition to Jimmy Stewart was sheer genius. That moment is part of the reason why Vertigo is in my top 5 all time movies. It would not have been the same without the music. The entire film is a masterpiece.
Actually I'd put Empire Strikes Back as number 1... That's when we get The Imperial March, Yoda's Theme, The Battle of Hoth, Han and Leia, The Asteroid Field

Technically,, on this list, only 7 out of 10 are from Spielberg films since Spielberg did not make Star Wars, Superman, or Harry Potter. But still, what an amazing collaboration Spielberg and Williams have had over the years!
John is one of the most iconic and classic well known musical arranger and director He has done so many musical scores that has been highly recognized.
Would you consider yourself to be a good person? How many lies have you told, and what do you call someone who lies? Have you ever stolen something, and what do you call someone who steals? Have you ever taken God’s name in vain (very serious; in Old Testament times, the Jews wouldn’t even say the name of God for fear of blasphemy) - even ‘OMG’? One more: Jesus said whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery in his heart; have you ever looked with lust? Well I’m not judging you - but if you’ve done these things then you’re a liar, thief, blasphemer and adulterer-at-heart; that’s how seriously God takes sin. He is Holy (perfectly good/righteous and separate from sin) which means that H e is perfect in justice - and if He were to judge you by the moral law (we’ve already looked at 4 commandments) would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? The answer is hell - the wrath of God upon you for your sin. Is that concerning? But fortunately, God’s will is not that you perish. He wants all men everywhere to be saved. So do you know what He did for us guilty sinners? In self-giving mercy, He sent His Son Jesus Christ. He lived the perfect life that we should have lived - tempted at all points and yet He NEVER sinned. Through His life, being in very nature God, He revealed God to men; but we in our hatred condemned Him to death. On that cross as Jesus suffered, He took on the sin of the world and was judged in our place; receiving God’s wrath. You and I broke God’s law, but Jesus paid the fine. God can justly forgive us. On that cross He died, then He was buried, but 3 days later He was raised from the dead - conquering death and Hell and ushering in The Kingdom of God. He then ascended to the right hand of God the Father (where He came from) now Lord of the living and the dead. God has fixed a date when He will judge the world in righteousness. What you need to do is repent (In humility, acknowledge your sin before God and turn to a relationship with Him) and trust ALONE in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross; and God will grant you the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then be baptised. When you place your trust in Jesus - the Lord and Saviour - these things will happen: 1) God will forgive the sins that you have committed; they were paid for by Jesus at the cross. 2) The perfect life that Jesus lived will be credited to you. He will find you holy and blameless on judgement day (and now), as Christ’s righteousness covers you. 3) You receive a place in Christ’s kingdom as an adopted child of God. God becomes your Father. Eternal life isn’t just about living forever, but a personal relationship with God Himself. That life can start now; The Father will reveal Himself to you if you seek Him. 4) God doesn’t just save you from the penalty of your sin (Hell). He can save you from the power of sin itself. Whoever practices sin is a slave of sin; but when you repent and believe the gospel [WHICH HAS BEEN DESCRIBED] the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you and sanctify you (working in you to further abandon sin and turn to the will of God). When the end of the age comes, and eternity begins, this work will be brought to completion as you are finally freed from the presence of sin. Jesus offers to take away your sin and to give you His righteousness; you must receive it by faith. Choose this day if you will align with the world, or with Jesus and His kingdom - only His is eternal. ROMANS 10:9 - If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved
I for one found it such a profoundly moving experience that I actually blocked John Williams' score from memory for years, it was just too painful to bear. To this day I start to tear up whenever I hear it.
My top 30 favorite John Williams scores! 1. Star Wars (7 films) 2. Indiana Jones (4 films) 3. Home Alone (2 films) 4. Harry Potter (3 films) 5. Jurassic Park (2 films) 6. A.I. Artificial Intelligence 7. Born on the Fourth of July 8. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 9. Hook 10. Schindler’s List 11. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 12. Seven Years in Tibet 13. Catch Me If You Can 14. Minority Report 15. Munich 16. Empire of the Sun 17. Superman 18. JFK 19. Nixon 20. Jaws (1975 only) 21. War Horse 22. The Adventures of Tintin 23. The Terminal 24. Saving Private Ryan 25. War of the Worlds 26. Amistad 27. The Patriot 28. The Towering Inferno 29. The Book Thief 30. The Poseidon Adventure
There should be a second and third "another top 10 John Williams scores." I'm surprised no one else is mentioning War Horse. That score is so beautiful that, decades later, I'll want that to be the last thing I hear.
Star Wars is John Williams most well known and forever will be. In a couple of hundred years he will be considered the best composer of the 20th and 21st century. His music will be considered one of the greats along with Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi and all the other classical composers.
I think the Harry Potter scores are the most beautiful and memorable of all time and I love them so much. Harry Potter should have been higher on that list!
IMHO, the greatest movie music composer of all time. His soundtrack catalog destroys everyone else. IMPERIAL MARCH is my #1 followed by SUPERMAN THEME.
How is Schindler’s list not number 1? It is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard and I will break down into tears almost immediately. But honestly anything Williams does is number 1
Probably because, while you're right about the emotions the Schindler's List score evokes in its listeners, Star Wars' music transcended its medium and became an instant, timeless classic.
I really feel that Superman's theme should have been higher on this list, it is literally one of the best movie themes in the history of cinema! It should have been #2
John Williams' best scores I feel have to be broken down by category: Star Wars Franchise is his best overall score, Jaws is his best atmospheric score, Jurassic Park is his best majestic score, Schindler's List is his most emotional and from the best film he has scored for, and Indiana Jones Franchise is his most fun score. All can be seen as his best from different perspectives. My personal favorite is Jurassic Park
Being born in the 80s, this man has shaped a huge part of my childhood and beyond with his amazing scores. I fondly remember seeing Jurassic Park in the theatre, just pure magic.
"without John Williams bikes don't really fly, nor do brooms in quiditch matches, nor do men in red capes. There is no force, and dinosaurs do not walk the earth, we do not wonder, we do not weep, we do not believe" - Steven Spielberg & George Lucas
John Cornell it's more like the first ten notes, but whatever. I'm not trying to discount Williams as a composer, but the man did take a lot of inspiration from his predecessors. Also, you literally made a baseless assertion that Jaws was the most iconic movie theme ever. Hell, its more of a motif! I would prefer some substance to your argument.
John Cornell I didn't need to listen to it again when I could just look at the sheet music. The score for Jaws begins with a two note motif oscillating between an E and F. This goes on for sixteen measures before additional thematic material is introduced. In Dvorak's symphony 9, mvmt. 4, there is a similar oscillation between a B and C. While the key is different, the half step oscillation remains. It is only dedicated for three measures, but the harmonic rhythm is such that additional thematic material is not added until the tenth measure of the movement. The key is in the harmonic rhythm, and the half stem motif. The pacing is different in Jaws because the score is more expansive, but Dvorak's influence is quite clear. You're right, it bloody well isn't ten notes, it is far more.
John Williams is the best!! Hedwig's Theme should have been higher on the list. My favorites are Hedwig's Theme, Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Raider's of the Lost Ark. But all were great though.
#1 should've been all of Star Wars IMO, because a lot of memorable tracks came in later films; Imperial March, Duel of the Fates, Battle of the Heroes, Across the Stars...
*If you just want to hear the music:* 00:57 Empire Of The Sun 01:55 Close Encounter Of The Third Kind 03:04 Harry Potter 04:11 Superman 05:48 Schindler's List 06:33 Indiana Jones 07:44 E.T. 08:44 Jurassic Park 09:33 Jaws 10:37 Hook 10:44 Home Alone 10:51 Catch Me If You Can 11:04 Star Wars
To me Howard Shore was kind of a one hit wonder. His scores overall are absolutely amazing! But they all don't have iconic themes. Lord of the Rings however was when Shore was like,"Screw it I wanna be famous".
John Williams is my favourite composer his music is amazing I love listening to him on classic FM his music choice is really good I love Harry potter and one of the things I love about it is the music. John Williams you rock
I feel fortunate to be living in the same time as this great man. We are LIVING in the SAME PERIOD as this guy who is literally making composing a music score a high art form. We're talking the same category as Beethoven or Mozart. He literally outdoes himself with each new creation. Few if NO music score can move me emotionally. Case in point being when the strings start at the opening of "Jurassic Park". Being a musician myself(trombone in h.s., college and now a community band, Lake Charles Community Band. We're here on TH-cam). I have only a glimpse into how his mind may work. Only a GLIMPSE! Incredible.
Facts that’s some of the best composed Christmas music ever it’s so heartwarming and beautiful. Definitely beats jaws. Jurassic park should’ve been the top
The day that John Williams’s music fails to bring me to tears is the day I no longer want to live, for that is the day I would lose the ability to appreciate beauty.
If you all want to see one about Hans, you should differentiate when he works with a workforce of ghostwriters or just by himself, what I like to call Hans-Solo (which are definitely few). There is a whole bunch of musicians standing behind his name, making it 'his'. I am not criticing it, Holywood just seems to go that way, getting bigger, selling more, selling yourself. John Williams, however, also added a wonderful bunch of concert works to his glossary, which you definitely should check out. And we hear and feel something in his music.. organic. I recommend to you the film music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold, which influenced Williams when it comes to the musical biggies like Star Wars or the serious elements in Jaws or Hook (almost completely!)

Top 10 Unforgettable John Williams Scores... in 9 Spielberg movies lol
Speilberg and Lucas owe so much to Williams ha
Garry Brown damm right
The 3 of them, its almost a bit incestuous
You are really an Einstein! I didn't even notice it!
Technically,, on this list, only 7 out of 10 are from Spielberg films since Spielberg did not make Star Wars, Superman, or Harry Potter. But still, what an amazing collaboration Spielberg and Williams have had over the years!
John is one of the most iconic and classic well known musical arranger and director
He has done so many musical scores that has been highly recognized.
Omg Schindler's list is probably the saddest movie I've ever seen it was so good yet so disturbingly accurate
Watching it once was enough for me. That's because it was so sadly accurate. It's just too depressing.
It is one of the most owned movies (VHS, DVD, Digital copy) but one of the least watched. It's one that I think everyone needs to view at least once.
When you place your trust in Jesus - the Lord and Saviour - these things will happen:
1) God will forgive the sins that you have committed; they were paid for by Jesus at the cross.

There should be a second and third "another top 10 John Williams scores." I'm surprised no one else is mentioning War Horse. That score is so beautiful that, decades later, I'll want that to be the last thing I hear.
31. Lost in Space
Superman 4 films must be higher
I would argue Schindler’s List should be higher, given the impact of the score.
Star Wars is John Williams most well known and forever will be. In a couple of hundred years he will be considered the best composer of the 20th and 21st century. His music will be considered one of the greats along with Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi and all the other classical composers.
John Williams knows his way about music. Do one on Danny Elfman as well.
Besides the spider man theme Im sorry but I dont get why people love Elfman so much.
Dylan Antill Have you ever listened to the Batman 1989 and Batman Returns Soundtrack? That's why.
Aside from Batman and The Simpsons, he's overrated
Julien Torres I'd also like lists on Hans Zimmer and Jerry Goldsmith
Maurice Jarre also
Harry Potter and Home Alone's scores feel so warm
I think the Harry Potter scores are the most beautiful and memorable of all time and I love them so much. Harry Potter should have been higher on that list!
i agree with this
Fawkes Theme
@@winnersneverqult yeah that's my favourite too☺️
I disagree
John Williams is king of music scores
IMHO, the greatest movie music composer of all time. His soundtrack catalog destroys everyone else. IMPERIAL MARCH is my #1 followed by SUPERMAN THEME.
Joe S whats about braveheart from James horner
2. For me,morricone is one and he destroys the rest
"I used me to defeat me" - John Williams aka Thanos
@@tylergarrett7572
“It always will be, I am........inevitable!”
The Superman the movie score still gives me chills and puts me in a great mood.
I listen to it to give me a boost when I know I've got something hard to do, or when I'm exhausted and need a pick me up.
When John Williams dies, we will all loose part of our hearts
How is Schindler’s list not number 1? It is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard and I will break down into tears almost immediately. But honestly anything Williams does is number 1
Cause fuck yea Darth Vader
Probably because, while you're right about the emotions the Schindler's List score evokes in its listeners, Star Wars' music transcended its medium and became an instant, timeless classic.
I really feel that Superman's theme should have been higher on this list, it is literally one of the best movie themes in the history of cinema! It should have been #2
Fictional Subliminals Op never stated they liked Superman just the score, stop trying to turn this into a hateful arguementr
Iconic
I love the "A New Hope" music, but "Superman" should've been FIRST!!
It should have been no 1
What ?? Definitly no, it's a good song but not the best
John Williams + Stephen Spielberg = Perfect Combinations for Very Good Movies.
*Steven
wrong name one movie which is good lmfao
When you're so good you lose the Oscar to yourself
Hello beautiful how are you doing
Jurassic Park is my favorite John William's theme, in fact it's also my favorite movie theme of all time.
BEST MOVIE EVER. Of course I've been into dinosaurs since 1979 so I may be a bit biased on that.
Why #3 why
Best Modern Composer Ever! AND a fellow Long Islander! (John Williams hails from Floral Park, NY. I'm from Bethpage but grew up in Malverne)
They should rename the Oscar to the "John Williams Award"
Press Like if you Agree
I Hate Redditors he should just straight said most of his music was inspired from classics.
@@IkilledColMustard Everything was inspired by classical music man. Is like saying the bible got its inspiration from Jesus
John Williams is the BEST when it comes to composing music for movie soundtracks!
51 Academy Award nominations is proof to that. You can't get that many nominations if your work sucks.
Hello beautiful how are you doing
John Williams' best scores I feel have to be broken down by category:
Star Wars Franchise is his best overall score, Jaws is his best atmospheric score, Jurassic Park is his best majestic score, Schindler's List is his most emotional and from the best film he has scored for, and Indiana Jones Franchise is his most fun score. All can be seen as his best from different perspectives. My personal favorite is Jurassic Park
Star Wars also boosted John William's popularity since it was a unique score for the 70's
John Williams is the Beethoven of the film industry music.
New favorites are "Rey's theme" and "Jedi Steps".
Agreed, Rey's Theme is wonderful.
More like Wagner.
"Rey's Theme" is right up there with his best work. It shows that he's still capable of greatness!
Hello beautiful how are you doing
All the John Williams scores are the best! 🎶📽🍿👍
Hedwig’s theme always gives me chills ❤️
For me, jurassic park is the best soundtrack of all time
It is amazing how all these movies are my favourite and I didn't even realize they had same composer.... could that be the reason?
Several also had the same director, so that's a winning combination.
HE RECIEVED MORE THAN 50 NOMINATIONS AT ACADEMY AWARDS. JOHN WILLIAMS IS TRULY A LEGEND ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Received not recieved
The score for 'The Empire Strikes Back' (Star Wars Episode V) is just as good, if not better, than half of this list.
Watchmojo: “#1, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope”
Me* Maximizes my phone volume
(Instruments begin to burn because the music is too epic)
I did the same at Jurassic Park
Being born in the 80s, this man has shaped a huge part of my childhood and beyond with his amazing scores. I fondly remember seeing Jurassic Park in the theatre, just pure magic.
i almost started crying when i hear the Jurrasic park theme
Was their any doubt Star Wars would be number one.
PrankCaster John Williams scores is Star Wars.
Leo Lim. Yeah, you take him out and it's just not nearly as good.
John Cornell
I find your lack of faith disturbing.....
PrankCaster the Star Wars theme is Johnny Williams magnum opus
I’m 35 years old and these were the sounds of my entire childhood. Every score is recognizable. John Williams doesn’t miss EVER.
Each instrument gives an different feeling... That's the magic.
You should do lists like this for Hans Zimmer and other famous movie composers.
John Williams is the master when it comes to movie scores. Such a talented composer.
*sigh * John Williams, for all intents and purposes you scored my childhood....
"without John Williams bikes don't really fly, nor do brooms in quiditch matches, nor do men in red capes. There is no force, and dinosaurs do not walk the earth, we do not wonder, we do not weep, we do not believe" - Steven Spielberg & George Lucas
I haven't watched it yet but I swear to God if Star Wars isn't number one I'm actually going to sue you.
Gaming-Is-Fun You never watched Star Wars?
I believe he was referring to the video that you are commenting on.
Just posting this in case you weren't joking.
John Cornell Yeah, it was iconic when Dvorak composed it, too.
"William's music increases the sense of amazement we feel...." .... umm.... not when you talk over most of it.
Copyright issues.
My childhood would’ve been empty and emotionless without John
John Williams is the best!!
Hedwig's Theme should have been higher on the list. My favorites are Hedwig's Theme, Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Raider's of the Lost Ark. But all were great though.
Incredible when you see his whole body of work. The true 🐐when it comes to movie scores
John Williams is a modern day Mozart. Beethoven. He's all of them. History will show him to be one of the greatest.
#1 should've been all of Star Wars IMO, because a lot of memorable tracks came in later films; Imperial March, Duel of the Fates, Battle of the Heroes, Across the Stars...
So much music from Star Wars is awesome. It seems like even the scores of the Star Wars Pre-quell just get more deep and beautiful.
Duel of the Fates from Phantom Menace is one of the best bits of music ever created.
*If you just want to hear the music:*
00:57 Empire Of The Sun
01:55 Close Encounter Of The Third Kind
03:04 Harry Potter
04:11 Superman
05:48 Schindler's List
06:33 Indiana Jones
07:44 E.T.
08:44 Jurassic Park
09:33 Jaws
10:37 Hook
10:44 Home Alone
10:51 Catch Me If You Can
11:04 Star Wars
Do a top 10 for Hans zimmer and Howard shore
Peter Dacey indeed and Hans zimmers he's a pirate theme or Maelstrom is amazing
To me Howard Shore was kind of a one hit wonder. His scores overall are absolutely amazing! But they all don't have iconic themes. Lord of the Rings however was when Shore was like,"Screw it I wanna be famous".
Actually Hans didn't do "he's a pirate" i'm pretty sure that was Klaus Badelt
John Williams is my favourite composer his music is amazing I love listening to him on classic FM his music choice is really good I love Harry potter and one of the things I love about it is the music.
John Williams you rock
John Williams's music is so diverse and so iconic that non musicians can even hum, sing and whistle his motifs. He is that iconic.
I'm getting a haircut today and I might go to Chick Fil A afterwards
Sounds like a great day.
Grant Perry ice cube is proud
Ricky Sim 😂
Star Wars always rules the Film Score universe... And I love it!
Incredible.
John Williams is truly the master.
Home alone should have been on the list
Facts that’s some of the best composed Christmas music ever it’s so heartwarming and beautiful. Definitely beats jaws. Jurassic park should’ve been the top
True,Williams took what was going to be just another 90s Christmas movie and turned it into a timeless classic
It was, but it was an "honorable mention".
It is.
@folklore2630 No it is not in the top 10 list.
"Honorable mention" just isn't the same.
