Had a 67' black marble club date gifted to me years ago. I recently restored it and refurbished a 14" floor from an mij drum and made it a "ludwig" lol. Didn't really know what I had and its so collectable now. So lucky, sounds and looks amazing of course.
Love the jam with Marc and demo as a whole! I have a 67 Blue Oyster Pearl Ludwig Classic with a modern Superphonic snare! Kids play it more than I do but stellar with 70's Zildjians but these cymbals sound great too!!
My dream set...........but man I wish I could play your style. You could make an old CB set sound pretty awsome I bet. I've been playing about thirty years but I could never quite get my solo stuff to flow like that first one you played. Been a long time since I have been impressed by a drummer and to be doing it om my dream kit well............ya just blew my mind !! Cheers
They original ones were terrible back then, always slipping and wearing out. One of the selling features of Pearl drums when they came out was that they had better hardware than the American drum companies.
Hey Pablo, the toms had Ludwig Weather Master Mediums on the toms. Coated Ambassador on the snare batter. Coated Power Stroke 3 on the kick batter side. Clear Ambassador on the bottoms. Thanks!
+Roy Beckerman Yes ! Only Ringo used the Downbeat series and then later the Super Classic series.. All made with the same shells, only different hardware.
i put this with the mike lull t-bass 4 string and it matched up perfectly stride for stride, even the little things all the speed up and slow down EVERYTHING. it was scary
He DID! I had to go back and listen to it again!! Holey moley, imagine not knowing the difference between "circa" and "circus"!! Hahaha! These young whippersnappers...they need to work on their word comprehension skills.
I'd like to have heard a dryer (if possible) run with the bass -maybe with a more splashy crash and not so much of a wet sound. Forgive my "not-so-drummer" explanations, but I'm a guitarist who lusts to build a band with bassist, drummer & me format, but I also can play drums pretty well. I would have loved to have heard a tight-hats-type beat with the bassist. I have an 80s Pearl kit collecting DUST and these Luds are my favs.
wow love it ! I found one from 68, supposedly they switch to maple/pop/maple around 67, 68. Do you guy know a way to verify the wood essences? ( the kit I found it painted white inside, but I really want to confirm it's mahogany).
I have 65 ludwig snare. The craftsmanship on it is pure shit, uneven bearing edges, interior of drum sloppily painted white etc.... thats largely do to Ludwig not being able to keep up with the demand for their kit after Ringo star made them popular. How does it sound though? It is one of my personal favorite snares, sounds amazing.
This is that magical Ludwig sound that is often imitated but never replicated.
That is one of the best sounding drum kits I've ever heard.
i realize I'm quite off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Jayden Davian Flixportal :D
@Eden Jaxon thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it!!
@Jayden Davian Glad I could help :)
These really show why Ludwig has been one of the best drums ever, over the years.
Finally a drummer with good feel on your videos. Killer set also!
I've heard many drumkits on youtube but THAT is without a doubt is one of the best sounding kits I have ever heard! Perfect in every way imaginable!
That lower tuning sounded AMAZING!!!!

This is the sound that made Ludwig famous.
Fabulous drums.
One of the most impressive kits on TH-cam.
Love the crisp sound.. No wonder Supraphonic snares are so popular.
Nice and open , warm , punchy Love Ludwig
That is exactly the sound and look that I want in a drum kit. Love it
Nice playing...nice drums and cymbals as well...
One of my favourite kits on TH-cam.
Officially one of my dream kits!....And those incredible sounding cymbals!

That kit is amazing. I'm really digging the cymbals too.
Wow that kit sounds like a dream.
One of the nicest sounding kits I've ever heard. So much low mid thump. Music is in the low mids haha.
So tastefully played
Thank you very much! I just bought an awesome red sparkle '65 Club Date and I really dig the tone of the one in your video, going for that sound!
God bless America these drums sound fantastic. Like some gigantic cosmic feline loping through the universe.
Jake Cooper best description ever!
They just don't make drums like this anymore..such class and craftsmanship! I love the club dates, they swing and have looks!
That lower tuning was so PHAT! Even for downbeat sizes!
that tom mount is amazing
They original ones were terrible back then, always slipping and wearing out. One of the selling features of Pearl drums when they came out was that they had better hardware than the American drum companies.
oh man I love the sound with the low tuning. That is what I hope to achieve one day.
Awesome kit. Really beefed up sound. Love the kick and floor tom. Plus bell sounds on crash. You play well dude!
That Traditional crash sound quite good as a ride!

Digging the kit and the cymbals.
To Beatles fans in the 60s, the best looking drumset ever. Even today, it's still one of the smartest looking kits of all time. Great sound.

great sound and look - if I was going to get a new set it would be the Club Date
nice drumming on a nice kit...cool beans
Did he say “ circus 1965”? Circa brother, hahaha.
He DID! I had to go back and listen to it again!! Holey moley, imagine not knowing the difference between "circa" and "circus"!! Hahaha! These young whippersnappers...they need to work on their word comprehension skills.
Right? Haha. Circus 1965 was a pretty good circus.
It sounds fantastic
Ludwig awesomeness 👍🥁
Nice set.
I have a 68 or 69 Black Oyster kit found at an estate sale. No snare though.

hi, very good your video, these cymbals are the same used by RINGO STAR in 1960 .62 .... 64 ...... ?
No .. These are a new company of cymbals called Istanbul.. Ringo used Zildjian..
The higher tuning sounds just like Bonzos drums!
So If I buy this drum kit will I automatically have the skills that Matt has?
What type of heads do you have on this kit? I have a 1971 Black Oyster kit and I'm always looking to improve the sound.
could you please tell us what drumheads you used? coated or clear resonants? bassdrum batter? thanks
is this actually vintage or a reissue? Sounds awesome!
What's the left crash's stand?
Beautiful kit btw.
I think he was about to say "Circa 60's" but then corrected himself mid-word aha. But agreed.
what is difference between these 60's club dates and blue olive badge 60's club dates?
A traditional set calls for a traditional grip.
3:15 to 4:00 , it sounds like a simpler version of "the crunge"?
Which Ludwig model of Ringo's, sold for $ 2.2 million ( US ) at auction recently.
1963 Downbeat Black Oyster Pearl.

anto d my favorite part about old Ludwigs is that you can tell they are hand made
Ludwig71, did you ever find out what heads were used?
+Lawrence Balara No!
wish you used calf skin heads :))))
NIce!
What is the big secret about the heads?
Reading description is usefull you know
Info wasn't included when I asked the question.
oh my bad, sorry
That is one sexual sounding kit
😖👉 Everyone's a better drummer than me ...🎶
Did he say circus 1965? He did, didn't he? Ha ha. Circus 1965. This is a real clown show.
