    You are massively underrated. People often say John Bonham or Buddy Rich when asked about their favourite drummers. I always say Benny Greb and Carter McLean.

    I usually hate drum solos, but your drum solos sound so tasteful and melodic, they are just so much fun to listen to and they tell a story that I can relate to. Thanks man!

      I agree about "drum solos" but when you have drummers of Carter's caliber it becomes more like a composition as opposed to a solo. Solos are what simple rock drummers do.

    • @busyboxst7
      @busyboxst7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm with you on this, lots of drum solos have no accents or movement, just overkill... i.e. lack thought/dynamics, but yeah, Carter's stuff is always actually going somewhere, expressing something other than hyperactivity, saying something.

    • @seppoinnanen5577
      @seppoinnanen5577 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's all about playing the drum and cymbal, not just hitting it to get the note. Some people just have "the touch" while the others don't. And I think it's the natural born approach to everything, something that can't be taught

    You know Carter...if everyone in the world woke up and listened to one of your drum solos every morning....there would be world peace! Just sayin'!! Always a joy to hear you do what you do and love how you do it. You inspire me to dig deeper into my soul when I approach solos. I always did your mastery of dynamics. More drummers should understand how important that is when it comes to playing. It creates a better "storyline" and gives the solo somewhere to go...it's not about getting locked in ...it's about being fluid. And it creates a more interesting solo. I remember seeing Buddy Rich solo when I was in high school. He did this tour just for schools. I'll always remember the "drum solo" he played for us that didn't involve any drums...he did the most incredible solo with cymbals only. He used his left hand (traditional grip) at the bottom high hat and swish around the top high hat...everything he played from the bell of ride to the chokes on the crash to the delicate rolls on the splash was tied together with full command of dynamics. Best wishes, Carter.

Q: I have '68 Ludwig 3 ply Standard 100 drum...it came with a generic 20 strand steel snare wire that sounds really tinny and over-bright- ....should I switch to a 12 or split 16 strand? I want to bring out more of the shell tone and mellow out the brightness.
